  1. Bob, that's a classic story. Your dad is EPIC!!! I hope and trust that Lesley is doing well, on the mend. ❤️
  2. A solenoid is an actuator (it moves something) In this case it moves the starter gear into engagement with the ring gear on the flywheel. The relay inside the passenger fender only amplifies an electric switch. The BL&R (S) wire from the ignition switch makes the relay connect the battery to the starter. In the case of a PMGR, it is used to trigger the solenoid on the starter itself. The solenoid on the starter (at least MY 460 PMGR starter) needs 40A to pull and 13A to hold the starter engaged. I hope this is easy to understand, as we had a question posed yesterday that pointed out Gary's verbiage is not succinct.
  3. You look way too young to be retired.... Is there something in particular you were looking for when you signed up? What are your plans for the truck?
  4. Fortunate, or unfortunately microwaves weren't a common appliance when I was growing up, or I would have had a DEW line radar base in my backyard.
  5. I definitely don't believe in blowing my own horn either. I've always been impressed by your depth of knowledge and the amount of thought and care you put into customer's project vehicles. That you 'do it for fun, not profit' doesn't change the skill and experience you have.
  6. Sounds like German cars, with their proprietary interface and software. Fool injection can be amazing, but I'm not familiar with it in a 2-stroke. I can't diagnose a microcontroller, by ear. I may know what's going wrong, but not how to fix it. I've been working on 2-cycle engines since the '70's. Raced RD's and prepped Kawi 3 cylinder drag bikes. A few years back I got the bug and built a pair of Farmertech clones because I missed my 038 Super and wanted a top handle saw but didn't want to pay stupid money.
  7. When I disassembled the lawnmower my mom beat my butt so hard the welts didn't go away for a week. 😂
  8. I apologize, if I've misrepresented you.
  9. I've had cPTSD since I was 6. I don't like barbiturates. I have to live with it.....
  10. I got a prescription for compression stockings yesterday. Also, an article about EV pricing and inventory: https://arstechnica.com/cars/2024/04/ev-prices-drop-up-to-20-as-new-and-used-inventory-surges/
  11. https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2024/04/words-are-flowing-out-like-endless-rain-recapping-a-busy-week-of-llm-news/ TTT! 😉
  12. More interesting induction for Bill. I know this interests you, because you were asking questions of Kelly on his last video. Something to keep you occupied for the better part of an hour while you cool your heels in the waiting room. 😉👍
  13. Walt released another video tonight. A faceoff between Husky, Jonsered and McCullough work saws.
  14. Bill, I'm acutely aware that tax day is around the corner and you are scheduled for a spinal injection to relieve your pain. Please know that you're in my thoughts and I'm pulling for some relief. Good luck! 🙏🤞
  15. We want your questions! We're here to help. If there's something wrong with your new Ford Racing starter we can help diagnose it and make it right. 💡 Amongst the 'elders' here we have Gary who started this whole thing and scanned more factory documents than you can imagine. Bill, otherwise known by his website "Old School Hotrodder" who owned a carburetor and tune-up shop (Preston Carburetor) and did metallurgical testing at Newport News shipyard before he retired. Myrll, who sold parts from a Ford dealership for decades... back when these trucks were in the showroom. Me? I'm just an autistic geek who has disassembled more 250/350/450 trucks than you can count on fingers and toes. I built and raced motorcycles and offshore power boats back in the 80's. Plus.... Matt from Tennessee (North Carolina now) who owns a vintage restoration shop specializing in FoMoCo vehicles. You can't ask for a more knowledgeable and helpful bunch of folks.
  16. Well, it's 1:30 and I'm rested and absolutely stir crazy. I don't see any questions to answer here, so I'm going to spend a few hours OSINT. (it's for a good cause! 😉)
  17. I'm reckless, but I'm always aware. You know me..... So, I'm waiting on a press. I should go try and get some sleep. The problem is that I never get more than an hour, and if I hit the rack at 10:30 I'll be up at midnight with ants in my pants.
  18. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Edit :donkey and burro are polite terms for an Ass.
  19. I didn't get much done. I'm supposed to be on bed rest with my leg elevated. They put the house directly across the street on the market this morning so I cleaned the yard and moved a bunch of debris out from under my truck. I cleaned all the shrapnel out of the case and settled the rear where the cover goes. The pinion races look amazingly untouched, and I KNOW they're fully seated. I think I'm going to try and leave them, if the shim under the race is even close to correct. It should be, because I got a Spicer kit with Koyo bearings, same as came out. I found a clutch and brake shop north of here to press the bearings on the new carrier and pinion. Hopefully they will call me Monday ($20 each 60 all together) Small progress, but I've been getting a million other things done around this house, so it is all in violation of Dr's orders... I am 110% 110% of the time, but y'all know that already...
  20. I'm sure you play this game with your customers every day. 😉
  21. I didn't write it, Gary did! I have a very good vocabulary and I'm pretty concise and succinct when it comes to technical things. That's the only reason I'm here! 😉
  22. The starter has a solenoid. It pulls the drive gear into engagement. Not just an electrical connection like a relay. If we're going to troubleshoot, let's be succinct and exacting. None of us are there looking at it, and the OP has not provided photos or an -as built-in schematic. So it's pin the tail on the donkey at this point....
  23. You CANNOT jumper the solenoid on the starter. My testing (documented here) shows 40A to pull and 13A to hold the PMGR.
