  1. This is definitely looking homemade rather than from a production jig.
  2. I don't think they will do a VIN but they definitely could, because they have all the stamps and tooling from the factory to reproduce buck tags and the service writing tag you already have. They also have the factory records and documentation to know everything about the cab you have, as well as the title you have. Too bad the "Vermont Loophole" has been closed.... That used to be about the most expedient and cost effective way to get a legit title for a long abandoned vehicle. Given that.... do you know a mechanic or towing company? They can lien and get title to any VIN. It may take 90 days or so, but they could, and would!, have valid (not scrap or reconstructed) title to a vehicle that "someone" abandoned owing money for fees, storage or repair.
  3. '87 T-19 shifters had a spline and the plastic knob was pressed on. The stump from the shift tower didn't fit all the way up the square section at the bottom. As I recall there is a red plastic bush with a couple of bumps that fit into dimples, retaining it. Maybe the plastic was moulded in place like a GM 7niversal is fixed in the yoke? I got mine apart with a punch and torch so I could have the 'finger' welded back on and used some tenacious rubber sealant to bond it back into the upper stick.
  4. I don't either, usually. But with 4.10's you're always running out of gear. Around town it's much easier to hold a gear than be in 5th at 35. When this truck was younger with the stock cam set straight up I got clocked at 127. Granted I was on a long downhill grade in the middle of the night.
  5. No. Actually I didn't. Perhaps I should have. Perhaps I should move somewhere that still has an old school hotrod shop? There was Stamford Carburetor for 75 years? They shut their doors a decade ago. But it's hard to find distributor caps, rotors, big round air filters..... Used to be a Moroso by McDonald's and 7 other old time parts stores/machine shops. It's all a thing of the past now.
  6. Sun and 40's tomorrow, showers Tuesday and sun with mixed clouds and highs at 50 W, T, F...I'll take it for mid-January!Like I said, I last bought a Powervalve in spring 2011.Though I did experiment with the AVS 650 back when I installed these valve covers. It couldn't deliver enough on top.I let it run out of gas with a mechanical pump and as the fuel came back on the truck popped.I lost a big brittle vacuum cap and was hoping that would solve it.I DO think this carb was built after '91 so it should already have the check ball.I'll have to make sure when I pop the primary bowl off to change the PV.
  7. I appreciate the extra effort. That's happened to me countless times, and it is frustrating. Was this the same basic engine that Ford put in the T-bird Turbo Coupe? I really liked the slightly older German Capris with the V-6 but when I bought my '85 Mustang GT in '86 I couldn't understand why Ford pulled a GM and sold the same exact body in the Mercury line. Mine was not dialed nearly as tight as yours. It was sloppy at the rear and only really pushed under acceleration as the front got light. The kid I sold it to put a very strong 351 in it and almost killed himself wrapping it around a tree. (more money than sense 😒) Sounds like you had quite a bit of help from your fellow service members. A shop on base has got to help a lot too! Bill (85LebaronT2) will regale you with the whole Omni/Horizon saga. If you're into turbo K cars his project thread is worth subscribing. Shelby definitely knew how to make cars go like hell on a shoestring budget. I'll have to look into what Dr Jacobs had to say. Thanks! 👍
  8. Ron also has a thread going under the For sale heading. Last summer he bought a new printer and said he had shipped 50 of them. https://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/1980-86-series-new-parts-from-the-dead-tp5292p137385.html I'm not sure why it's so difficult to get a response, but you might try that thread too.
  9. Snow turned to drizzle around daybreak and now it's back to light snow. Amazon says 12:45-3:45 but I expect delay because of road conditions. I won't have daylight or time to get this done today, but hopefully parts in hand and this weather clears out tomorrow.
  10. That's odd I'm sure Gary can help when he gets back from church
  11. Sorry. Options -next to the gear- should present a drop down menu.
  12. If you want a plastic filter put it in the rubber line between frame rail and fuel pump. The exhaust is on the other side so there's very little risk. I haven't had problems with metal 'stone' type filters at the carb inlet, but I drive enough that my fuel doesn't go bad.
  13. Go to the gear next to 'options' where the pages are listed at the top. Click unsubscribe this thread Cleck confirm.
  14. I've seen the orange, gold and blue boxes. Back in the '80's everyone would tell me that I needed an MSD or Mallory, or something..... But unlike them I didn't get stuck because my ignition failed. I can understand why a built in rev limiter might make sense but WTH is the point of a dwell limiter and a ballast resistor? You're turning prospective spark into heat. I understand why there's a resistor in Run with a DuraSpark system but am trying to grasp the need of you can get a Mopar box that doesn't overheat the coil. What coil were you using and what car was the 2-3 in?
  15. A Carter YF is as reliable as a hammer. It's hard to imagine that CJ has gone through 3 carbs and a fuel pump given that everything upstream is new. Really the only 2 things that could cause flooding are too much pressure or a bad float/valve.
  16. I have to agree with Mat. Covering up the symptom is not fixing the problem.
  17. Webers are pretty simple if you understand how they work. Scott's Duraspark recurve pages are here: https://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_index.html https://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_page-2.html What tangible advantage does the Mopar box offer? I remember these things from one of my girlfriend's Aspen in highschool A stock cammed 300 makes it's power below 2,000 and is completely done by 3K. I used to routinely blow past 6 grand in my Mustang GT with no ignition problems from a bone stock DS-II+recurved distributor. I'll be the first to admit that I've never driven a 300 with a Clifford cam, intake and dual Weber's, but I have driven one with a cam, EFI manifolds and an Offy 4V intake with my 390 Holley. They can definitely be a lot more than a farm tractor or Genset engine.👍
  18. Well it seems you both have made progress. I'd be tempted to buy a stock piece of brake line and find one of the 87944-58 nuts to slip over it
  19. I see my favicon has changed to the BW image. It threw me for a minute.... Too small for me to note what is being shown on my phone.
  20. I just wanted him to know the spacer IS an EGR (in the US) and the drawing is poor for a reason. That there are two different gaskets. One above and one below. Not both stacked beneath the carb. Can you handle this? I've got 1/2 hr to get in to work.
  21. Welcome Don! Are you joining us for your friends truck? Are you considering one for yourself? Squariel's? I remember the Sonnet was a 2-smoke. A friend had a 99 GLI in the early '80's We flogged that thing mercilessly. It handled great and kept coming back for more.
  22. I was talking about belching black smoke, but yeah the steam is pretty intense with no cat. Lying and slush on the side of the highway while you hook a car is no damn fun at all
  23. Snow and Mosquitoes? Curious mix we don't see often up here. Just being facetious. I do remember the trucks driving around with a huge cloud behind them when I was a little kid. Then there was some more of that in 1999 at the height of the "West Nile crisis"
  24. It's a thick pink/red wire w/ green stripe in the upper left under the dash cover. Matt Wood* has pictures of it here on the Forum. https://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Pre-Emptive-FIRE-tp58908.html
