  1. Gary, I’ve been looking around at AC parts and components and something I’m not finding easily is the heat/AC control panel without the dual fuel tank switch. I know they existed as AC was an option in Flaresides obviously but every time I find a controller or pictures of one it always has the dual tank switch. Hmmm... I have seen ones, even NOS, but not now. This one is different than mine as mine has "mix" for heat and defrost. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Temperature-Control-Excluding-Dual-Tanks-Fits-82-FORD-F100-PICKUP-480523/184025123907?hash=item2ad8c08c43:g:1MgAAOSwRg9dwtX2 This one is for dealer installed units: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Temperature-Control-With-AC-Dealer-Installed-Fits-83-FORD-F100-PICKUP-14778970/352802053978?fits=Year%3A1983%7CModel%3AF-100%7CMake%3AFord&hash=item5224a41f5a:g:dfQAAOSwH1BdiwUm They both look the same to me and for non-AC trucks. So how is that bottom one for dealer installed AC? Thought only the AC controls blend the air for defrost/vent and vent/floor? I think it is? To lazy to go look at my AC truck control. Dave ----
  2. I called Bill/NumberDummy this afternoon and we had a good chat. Turns out he's put away his MPC's and has stepped down from providing part numbers. After 18 years he just got tired of having to deal with people telling him he didn't know what he was talking about when he tried to explain that the number on a part is not a part number. Instead of spending many hours a day helping others he's helping himself. He spends an hour each day at the gym, and then reads and re-connects with old friends. So I invited him to come here and hang out. Regale us with the many stories he knows. Hope he does. I can under stand I was worried, when someone just stops showing up to help we kind of think the worst. Good to hear is "helping himself" that is what retirement is to be right Thanks for passing on the information and he will be missed Dave ----
  3. Yep Tabco here also and really happy with them. Same was done on the other side and the lower half (inside & out) of the left door Dave ----
  4. Don't I know that When I first upgraded my CDL from class B to A (18 wheels) I could not get a job because in 2 hours you could be in like 5 different states. Had to settle on a local, Derby area, heating oil driving job. Here in NC I can drive 3 hours at 70 mph and not get out of state LOL. I have a medical restriction on my CDL even down here in NC and could not (CT) / can not go out of state. Welcome to the forum Dave ----
  5. So a wolf in sheep's clothing I never followed what was different with the Lighting over a normal truck, guess we will find out LOL I guy I work with has a Lighting he drives to work once in a wile. Kind of like me, only when we feel like it I guess. Thanks on the truck. I have some custom touches, duel tanks not offered on a flare side but looks factory inside & out, floating bumpers (no bumper bolts showing) and fog/driving lights added in the front bumper, metal ribbed floor replacing the wood floor as it was to much $$ to replace the wood. I also added factory AC to a non-AC truck by swapping firewalls. Cant wait to see posts on your project with lots of pictures Dave ----
  6. But they are 4 parts as before, 2 for left & 2 for the right. Dave ----
  7. I am catching up here. It is not only the right kick panel but the left side also. Cory, you should have the non-AC panels in your truck as it was non-AC. The panels have a "sliding door" to let air flow in at the kick panel area and up thru the cab. Non-AC trucks do not have this type of "sliding door panel", it is solid. If you were to remove the solid plastic panels you will find a metal plate held on with 4 screw to seal the body of any air to enter the cab. Other that that there is no difference in kick panels and you can run the sliding door panels with the metal plate removed to get air flow thru even with AC Ask me how I know I may even have pictures on my site but not really showing the metal plates as I was not taking picture of them. Dave ----
  8. Any way to know if they fit pre 80 trucks also? If so then may want to check in with them. Dave ----
  9. Walt, You have done the head light relay kit upgrade to the truck right? If not don't even think of anything else till you do. I got mine from LMC years ago for a different project but it is no where close to the road so I used it on my 81 F100 and it is night & day difference of the light out put. You can find the kit on Ebay & Amazon and other places. Dave ----
  10. Yes it is warm here, hate to say because you have that nasty cold/sleet/snow it is 73* at this time. Rain to come in later tonight but just had to bring the cat in as it was sprinkling. Going to do my weekly trash run then get on the Velcro job LOL I am waiting for the seller to get back with measurements. He gave me a measurement of 14" and I had 31" & 25" (face of bell to tail housing & face of trany to tail housing) need at least the trany face to tail to see if close. Once I know that and recheck if slip yoke and what other parts he has we can talk price and then when to drive out to GA to get it. It is a 6+ hour drive 1 way, wife wants to come and hope to meet up with family out there so we need to line up sitter for the fur kids. My local FTE chapter found a ZF5 for $350 about 2+ hours away but looked to be 92> as I did not see a hole for the speedo and it was just the transmission with shift so would need to come up with everything else. Dave ----
  11. I have not looked as I right now I use the tray as a "catch all" LOL But if you had another "door" remove the try and fill it in with a sheet metal panel and besides the lighter hole you might be able to add 2 more holes and place more of the power ports in there with maybe a switch. When nothing is plugged in you could turn it off and close it so not seen. Dave ----
  12. Cant say if the added auto shifter will hit the 4x4 shifter or not but my under standing is the auto trucks did not have the floor hump you could remove to access the transmission like the stick trucks have. My 81 4x2 with T18 and you can see the part you can remove. I could also be wrong. Dave ----
  13. I have been out of the AMC loop for a bit but they where most likely right in the injection tube assy. and not being able to get replacements. As for headers I did not think they would be hard to come by. Now if looking on Summit or Jeggs you may not see them listed on line or a catalog and need to call them and even more so for the car side of things. Anything after 1970 had dog leg exh. ports for better flow and it is hard to find a set of headers that fit the opening of the dog leg and not block it. Flywheels can be hard as most places list all AMC motors (304/343/360/390/401) as using the same fly wheels / flex plates and this is not true. Each motor is balanced differently and uses it's own fly wheels / flex plates along with front balancers. Then throw in early & late cranks for the 304/360/390 and the fly wheels / flex plates also do not inter change beside the weight thing. You get a fly wheels / flex plates to fit the crank and have it match balanced to the old one. That is if you can find a machine shop that can do that! BTW AMC did not have big blocks or small blocks, they were all the same size on the outside when looking at them so you could drop a 401 in place of a 304 and no one would know unless they knew AMC's. They cast the CID on the side of the blocks by the motor mount boss unless a service block as it had no markings. AMC's are fun to mess with Dave ---- How about a factory compact (Vega/Pinto/VW Bug) with a factory 5.0 (304) Or is it Dave ---- yes it is a factory 304 / auto car

  15. When I was looking for parts for my T18 I did come across levers, don't remember where, that did list different sizes. Then you also have to think as old as our trucks are and that the NP435 / T18 / T19 all swap you may find a T19 where a T18 should be. So something to keep in mind. Dave ----
  16. Welcome to the site and it's not a blue flare side I say that because 3 members have blue ones, mine is red & white. I also have one of the plate brackets The rear bumper brackets will be a hard one to come by. I wonder if Reamer is thinking of making them? I also wonder how different the step bumper brackets are from the chrome one for our trucks? I did not even think of looking when I had a step bumper here. Gave the bumper & brackets away to a local to me member as I was not going to use it. You have to start a post on what plans you have for the truck as we would like to hear of them. Dave ----
  17. As for the oil leak I think (hope) it is from the transmission that I want to replace. The wife just left so I can pull the unit out to put the Velcro on it. Other wise I would need to move my DD to get the truck out for the needed room. Dave ----
  18. A PC seats & head liner are something when cleaned and looking new. I bet when he shows up to car shows no one knows what it is LOL Oh and don't even look for an AMC class as they never have one! Got to love that AMC motor color My car was a factory 390 / 4sp but when I got it it has a 360 that runs pretty good and the 390 in boxes. Someone wanted the 390 for NHRA class racing and it had to have the numbers of the 70 cars. Being I was not going to rebuild it I sold it for cash & a 401 from a Jeep for the drag car. Is your buddy a member over here http://theamcforum.com/forum/forums.html Its the only one left that I think is worth looking at, I am a member there under the same user name but have not been on for about 4 years as I was rebuilding my 81 flare side. I have done a lot of rebuilding on my Javelin just does not look it LOL If people think it is hard getting parts for our pick up trucks try getting them for a car that the company closed up in 1988 and most left over parts were scrapped. Then look at how many were built / sold and we don't have much to pick from. Dave ----
  19. A word on being able to crank the motor with out pushing in the clutch like in the old days. Out in the no mans land you may come up to a point to need to crank the truck to move it like in a water soak stall out to get it out of the water. Would you get out in the middle of a river / stream to bypass the switch to crank it out so you can work on it? Just something to think about. Dave ----
  20. That sounds like a Bill answer LOL Good to hear you kind of talked to him. He has been MIA over you know where and we are worried as we have not heard from him. Dave ----
  21. I don't get into all the fancy this type or that type of charging, as long as it will charge my Android phone I don't care. Now my work truck has 2 lighters(powered all the time) and 1 is used for the trucks EDL (electronic Drovers Log) that is an Android tablet running the EDL app. and this is thru an adaptor with 2 USB ports, 1 for the tablet the other is for my Android phone. The other port I have a lighter port extension and think 2 USB ports that sits on top of the dash. 1 USB is to my truckers GPS and the other is a spare for when I have a trainee to plug their phone into. Now my 81 only has 1 lighter port but I have an adaptor I picked up at Walgreen's Drugs that has think 2 USB ports that I use 1 port to charge my Android phone when needed. Yes it is powered all the time so I just pull it out a little, has a light when powered, so the light goes out or all the way and set it on the seat. My Dodge has a lighter with a lighter charger that has a cored that fits my phone but also has a USB port if needed. This lighter port does turn off when the key is off. This charger has the phones name on it so must have gotten it when I got the phone 6 years ago. Again I just want to charge my phone or run the GPS that plugs into the lighter. sorry cant be of more help Dave ---- Ps:The Dodge also has 2 other lighter outlets. 1 center consul and the other at the tail gate. I do have an small inverter in the consul I used to power my laptop when I was working for Dell on field repairs but have not used it in years.
  22. Had too long a post that got lost To start working again on my 1970 AMC Javelin that I have had for about 30 years. Brother owed me money and it was the car or nothing so I took the money pit car What it looks like now after moving it back into my garage from the house garage. http://cars.grantskingdom1.com/index.php/70-Javelin-Mark-Donohue?page=1 Dave ----
  23. When building my drag I used a large white board and dry markers.I would list a bunch of things to do filling the board up and as I did one I would cross it out.I did not take it off the board as I could then see I was doing something.Once they were all done I would clean the board and start all over.Being in the garage as soon as something was done it could be crossed off and not till you gotto a computer that might be in the house. Now I had the board in the garage when working on the truck but I did not want to remove the writing on it from the drag car so in my head I broke down the work into sections,Like the panel replacement I did 1 side at a time, floor/ rocker/ cab corner/rear door post. When 1 side was done I moved to the other then to the firewall. I could then see what was done and that made me feel good that something was getting done. That brings me to something my dad always said about body work, that I hate doing. He liked body work as you could see what you had done where working on a motor or suspensions, etc. you could not see anything was done / worked on. That is true but I still hate body work LOLDave ----Not on the truck also but for it.I also got a clock off Ebay but not as cheap as the $45 I seen a member posted but under $60 shipped.Should be here sometime next week I hope.I also got under mine to see how the lower fender mount was done as a member asked as his was missing. It is to be warm here but raining over the weekend and being I have a non-running car in my garage I have to wait for the wife to get her car out of the house garage for the next part.I have 1 of them storage rack behind the seat and it is not fastened so it knocks when moving.I think it had Velcro in the parts truck so I bought some 3/4" to put across the top & bottom to hold it tight. That is the only non-road noise the truck makes at this time so got to fix that!It also has a lot of oil drips now that it did not have before.I hope it is from the transmission but need to check it out.Dave ----

  25. If it has coolant in then great but some of the cars or trucks you come across that have been sitting for a bit you want to put as little dollars into it to hear it run before sinking a lot of money into it. That is why I said you don't need coolant just to hear it run to know all is good. Same with the oil, if it has good level and looks somewhat good then use it to hear it run. If you have coolant in it you can run it as long as you want, you have gas and it don't over heat or have an issue running. Good luck Dave ----
