  1. Gary, I typed a nice reply this morning to kristopherdb? and when I went to post it got this:
  2. 4.9L you do have a feedback system, that is how Detroit got carbureted engines to meet emission requirements. The burning questions are: (A) are they using CA standards? That brings us the (B) is the truck a CA spec, 50 state spec or 49 state spec? if it is a 49 state and they are using CA spec requirements you might have a problem unless you can convince them it is correct as sold. Check that the bowl to throttle body screws are tight and the gasket isn't bad, that will make a YFA run richer than it should, make sure the mixture control solenoid is working (you should be able to feel it cycling by putting you finger on it. Fresh oil change, new PCV valve will also help, What brand of parts are you buying, my son had a royal fit trying to use aftermarket sensors on a 1986 EFI 302.
  3. King pins are a mixed blessing, mine are still original and still no play to speak of (inspection guy said they'll probably outlast both of us). Alignment, right! The actual I-beams have to be bent and very few places even have the capability and of them, only a few are competent. I have been fortunate in that one of the best in VA was close to me and recommended by two other Ford owners, one of whom is very particular about his vehicles. He did my 77, and when my older son had it and went to get new tires, the shop that he went to asked him who had aligned it, my son said he didn't know the name, but it was a fellow in Gloucester County. The front tires were worn dead even across! Needles to say Darth went to him also, he had taken on an apprentice and asked if I minded if he did the work under supervision. I told him that if he thought enough of the boy to take him and train him, I had no problem.
  4. Gary, I just tried 3 different browsers, Chrome, no sig except in quoted posts, Edge, same thing, IE 11, sigs show up under each post.
  5. Great! Welcome to the group. If you click on the "Gary's Garagemahal" at the top, it will take you to a list of resources, unfortunately the emission system vacuum is not included in the EVTM (Electrical Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual) 1986 is essentially the same as the 1985.5 EFI. I am fairly familiar with that system as my son had an 86 F150 with the same setup. I have all of the service information for 1986 as I have a 1986 F350. My first truck was a 1958 F100 with the 6 cyl engine.
  6. I haven't tried it mobile as I really don't like trying to do websites on a 2.5 X 3 inch screen. I do like that it cleaned things up as the garagemahal links would expand if you got too close, this is much cleaner.
  7. Since you do not say what truck or engine, I will tell you what I can. E4TA is the prefix number for the carburetor, there should be a - x letter, so the complete number would be E4TA-9510-x. Example here:
  8. Ok, I just looked, 84 could have an EEC-IV system and the 86 EVTM is probably fairly close. I was afraid it might have had the MCU setup which had a potted computer box on the inner fender. Easiest way to see if the stuff is still there, look at the distributor, if it has a vacuum advance then the system has probably been removed, if not then the carburetor may just need a rebuild.
  9. Definitely need to check both, my block varied a bit from side to side and end to end on each side. Hopefully, once this weather system (a) makes up it's mind and (b) goes away I hope to be finally getting around to changing Darth's engine, at which point do you still want the old dipstick and tube Jim?
  10. That is what I wanted the fellow who built my engine to do, deck the block to 10.300 but he felt it didn't need it and he could get it with heads and gaskets. I was trying for around 9.4/9.5 compression at which a 460 will still tolerate regular fuel. Ended up at 9.23
  11. Only because they were built from 1968 - 1997, 335s were 1971 - 1982, basically 30 years vs 11 years. You also get into, internal vs external balance on 460s.
  12. Jim, I have that, what you also have to look at is compression height. 1968-87 pistons are 0.230" 21cc dish, compression height of 1.752", 1988-92 pistons are 0.072" 7cc dish, compression height also at 1.752", 1993-97 pistons are 0.180" 16cc dish, but compression height of 1.772". 1968-70 blocks have a deck height that gives essentially a zero deck 10.300" if I remember correctly, 1971 blocks are 10.310" and 1972-97 are 10.320". Scotty has that on his site. The other item, the 1993-97 pistons use thinner (for less drag) rings. Lots of little changes before being dropped.
  13. It is supposed to, at least now I have the favicon showing.
  14. Ok, I have two Cometic MLS gaskets for a 460, .060 compressed thickness if they are of use to you. On the heads, valve angles may have changed, but the big thing is the intake port angles changed. The two options, there are custom intakes to use a carburetor on EFI heads, or, an adapter for the lower half of the EFI intake (notice it looks like an aluminum version of the 4V intake) There is no exhaust crossover in the heads or intake, so you will need some sort of carburetor heat provision, or, if the aftermarket intake has a crossover, you could run coolant through it like the MEL engines and the old BOP 215 did.
  15. Just did it to me again replying to Jim's message. I logged in, saw his message, opened it, formulated my reply by looking up some information I have here from my build and when i hit "post message" it brought me back to the login screen.
  16. Ok, Nikita, or is it Leonoid or Vladimir? The 1993-97 heads cc'd to 92 ccs on my build, and these were a brand new set of F3TZ heads. The HG diameters were all 4.500" and the compressed thickness varied from .027" to .060". I have the set we didn't use out in my garage, but we are currently experiencing a nasty storm, rain rate of 48-95 "/hr. Once that passes, I can run out and look at what they are.
  17. Yours is an early EFI 302 from what I remember, that one has the PCV on the rear of the right valve cover, quick check for enough flow, take the hose off the air filter and see if there is vacuum or pressure there with the engine running. If you find that line and the air filter area very oily, either that is your problem, or you have a turbocharged Chrysler mine on my LeBaron konvertible always stayed wet with oil. Other problem, and loads of fun on that engine is clogged oil drain back holes in the heads allowing oil to puddle up there at higher rpm and loads.
  18. Well, since your current one is a 32-290, I would say it was probably a replacement at one time.
  19. It showed me as being logged in, I usually log in in case I see something I want to reply to.
  20. I think up through 84 or maybe mid 84 when the exhaust changed they had one, so 1983-84 would have one, 1985-87 got the booby prize, dual smoke grinders, 1988-97 they went back to one, but 1988-92 it only fed the catalytic converter and since Darth never had one (sticker reads NON-CATALYST) I don't need one.
  21. Gary, several times I have been logged in, gone to make a post, and when I click "Post Message" it takes me back to the login screen. Once I re login it brings me right back to my post so I can post it.
  22. Yes, he was a lot of help with recommendations for mine. As for pistons, 1968-1987, recess depth is 0.230" volume 21cc, 1988-92, recess depth is 0.072" volume 7cc, 1993-97, recess depth is 0.180" volume 16cc. Where the other factor comes in, compression height, distance from the pin to crown, 1968-87 1.752", 1988-92 1.752", 1992-97 1.772". I did a lot of research planning mine and I have a set of Cometic head gaskets, I will have to look at the thickness, that we ended up not using.
  23. The one I am an admin on is "429/460 Big Block Fords" the other one is "Ford 429 460"
  24. Jim, I don't know if you do Facebook, but there are a couple of 460 groups on there. I an an admin on one of them. Good sources of parts and information. (Gary Lewis maybe you should look for them now that you have joined the club).
  25. Damn Jim, that air filter looks familiar. Valve covers look nice on there! I do hope your ticking noise isn't the 460 curse, leaking around an exhaust port.
