  1. Gary, then you would be 2 grumpy old men.😈
  2. One other thing, I used to see all the time on GM products with the HEI system. One weekend my USMCR 1st Sgt had his "Air Force Staff Car" a Chevy Biscane, loose the ignition going home. The coil is powerful enough to burn a hole right through the distributor rotor, causing exactly what you describe.
  3. Oly, I don't suppose you have seen a red LHD Shelby GT350 around. Current owner is in Sydney NSW.
  4. I will give you and anyone else with a Bullnose a suggestion. The issue with the drains clogging is caused by leaves falling (or being blown) through the cowl grille slots, Ford changed this in 1987 by going to one that has lots of little holes. On a Bullnose, a piece of screen, preferably plastic, cut to fit, will keep the leaves out, but still let plenty of air in. I can't claim credit for this idea, I saw it on a Chevy 1 ton van while I had the front and part of the engie disassembled.
  5. Jim, I count 15 kegs. The boys down under got some really neat engines we couldn't get here. Just think what a 300 crossflow would have been like.
  6. Governor, yes, shift valve no. I have a diagram on the hydrauilc system: Here's the governor (I had on sticking on my 1977 F150 I put a 390 and C6 in place of the 300 and C4):
  7. Before I went MAF/SEFI and E4OD, he got a solid 10, city, highway unless I was pulling the 5th wheel, then he got 8.
  8. It sounds like some wiring got crossed or connected wrong. On your starter relay (on the fender) there should be two wires, one is a red with a blue stripe, it should be on the S small terminal and there is another wire it goes on the I terminal (Trucks with the hot fuel handling package used that terminal). Unplug the wire to the S terminal and see if the issue goes away, if not, then your starter relay is bad.
  9. I have gotten 12.5 in Darth running mostly 70-75 on I-70 after some lesser MD state highways going from Exmore VA to Falling Waters WV. Darth has a 3.55 limited slip and weighs 6400 lbs empty and has 6 215/85R-16 tires on the road.
  10. That looks very much like the orignal Ford design that were single breaker point units. I havent had a vehicle with breaker points in years, last one was my son Matt's 1965 Corvair Corsa and that was taken out of service in 1996 after he graduated from high school. He inherited my 1987 Horizon after that.
  11. My now 47 year old son learned fairly early how to set points with a matchbook cover. He had a 1965 Corvair Corsa 140 HP (four 1 barrels). Your distributor sounds like a copy of the 1957/58 Ford ones, ball bearing breaker plate and all. I had on in an ex-NASCAR 430 MEL and another in a 312 Y-block.
  12. Dave, that is essentially what I had my local exhaust shop build on my 1977 F150. Left side exhaust had the first muffler and the right side sat behind it.
  13. It has an O-ring where the fitting is put together. This allows it to move without leaking.
  14. I second Jim's vote on being a beautiful truck. Welcome to the forum!
  15. Mufflers look like Corvair turbo mufflers (2 1/2" in and out).
  16. What it boils down to, is very simple. A businees is making good money has decent management and has a good customer base and maybe even has brand recognition. In the case of Sears (who i worked for in 1966) Kenmore, Craftsman, Allstate to name a few. Almost all of which had products produced by other companies for Sears. Lawn and garden equipment, Murray, MTD and AYP. Murray was (and is) extremely cheaply made, MTD will make a push, riding or yard tractor pretty much however you want it, AYP (American Yard Products) is now Husqvarna. They have now gone way downhill, and are gone. My son was working for Advance Auto in 1995-96 when they were bought by a group of "New York Investors" basically Doctors and Lawyers who had little if any experience in the retail world, and definitely not in auto parts. They and their investment advisors, looked at staffing vs sales and decided they only needed 2 people on the floor or maybe 3. A shop would call in a parts order to the commercial sales (if they had one) and come pick it up or have it delivered. In the area he worked, around 4:30 - 6:00 weekdays they would have a run where the store would be full of customers, with onlt 2 or 3 employees, couldn't go out and check a battery or charging system, people needing to have parts looked up would get frustrated and go across the street to AutoZone or just go home and try to order it.
  17. The factory exhaust system on the 1984-1987 460s was two pipes to the muffler located directly in front of the rear axle followed by a large single tail pipe. On my 1977 F150, after I changed it from a 300 and C4 to a 390 and C6, I had the exhaust run down the right side of the truck. Left side crossed under the transmission extension housing (on a 4WD it may need to be further forward). I used two Corvair Turbo mufflers mounted with the long side up and had a short cross pipe just ahead of the mufflers. Tail pipes went down the right where the stock single exhaust ran and exited under the rear corner of the bed (I carried an 11 1/2 foot Wilderness slide-in camper in it). Other than that, you can either run pipes outside the frame or deal with crossing under the truck twice.
  18. Looks nice! My son had one similar to that. Welcome to our group.
  19. Here's the one I have: https://www.amazon.com/GEARWRENCH-2038-Window-Molding-Remover/dp/B00HSCG4TE/ref=pd_bxgy_d_sccl_1/145-6661957-4472621?pd_rd_w=CuuX5&content-id=amzn1.sym.f7fa8b58-6436-47b8-8741-9e90c231669e&pf_rd_p=f7fa8b58-6436-47b8-8741-9e90c231669e&pf_rd_r=38MFM0QRKH1QZH3DQA07&pd_rd_wg=1NFO2&pd_rd_r=e0a6158a-f098-4bd2-b263-876efdfc36fd&pd_rd_i=B00HSCG4TE&psc=1
  20. Ray, I don't have it where I can take a picture right now, but I believe I got it at Autozone. It is T shaped with the upright part of the T being the handle and the cross bar having 2 different hooks which when slid under the side and to trim will hook behind the clips and release them.
  21. I'm sure there will be issues we have to correct, but we should be able to do so fairly easily. Sounds good sir! If I come across one of my copies of Murphy's law, I will scan and email it to you.
  22. Now you know why I went MAF/SEFI on Darth and am using an E4OD. 60 mph is right around 1600 rpm, used to be 2200 with the C6. Even with the low compression due to carbureted short block and early EFI heads, he still got 12.5 mpg on a mostly 70 mph run from the Eastern Shore to Falling Waters West Virginia. Darth weighs 6400 lbs empty, add 225 lbs for me and starting with 38 gals of regular gas so add 235.6 lbs so figure 6861 rounded to the nearest lb and I am turning 6 tires (or tyres if you prefer the British spelling).
  23. Chad, I am thinking that's backwards, I will have to see if I have a loose AC compressor harness I can check.
  24. You are correct, the return is directed to internal lubrication on a C6 (and most other automatics).
