  1. This transmission sure is seeing a lot more care and attention than most shop rebuilds. I have to wonder how many people really know how to work on something that used to be as ubiquitous as the C6 in this day and age of 14 speed electronically controlled automatics? At any rate, it looks like your truck will be back (better than ever!) very soon. Hope you're feeling better! 🙂
  2. I have this really cute #16, 20" long rock maul. It's kinda tough to swing with both hands under the truck, but I have it jacked up as high as my 6 ton stands will go.
  3. Gary, I didn't think the EFI 460 made it into production until the '88 MY was in full swing. At least I've never seen an 87 with one, nor an 88 without one. Bill, when I lived in the hood, we had a neighborhood character named Willy. He literally lived in a dog house and was from somewhere in the deep south. Hard to understand because I don't think he had a straight tooth in his head! But he was kind hearted when he wasn't drunk (not often..) He definitely had some stories when on occasion I would take him to go turn in a big load of cans or some scrap that was really too heavy to drag all the way to Canal St.
  4. There's a sleeve with a flange on each end. It's plenty strong enough to support the transmission from the output flange at the driveshaft.
  5. Does the book say 'excluding' the 420 IDI & 460?? Oh! It says V8 except diesel and EFI 460.
  6. FYI: Engineering number from my Saginaw pump bracket. (this was off an '85 or 6 E350)
  7. One would hope. But then, we have those that embrace it! My maternal family lived over 3 years in a prison camp. My step grandmother had a tattoo from Buchenvald on the inside of her forearm.....
  8. I don't know if you have a divorced or married transfer case. With unit cases there's a 'collar' that bolts to the 4x4 transmission and another flange at the other end that bolts to the input of the transfer case.
  9. I have an older friend -John- (38 years I've known him!) who grew up in rural Alabama. I don't ever ask, but I definitely sit quietly when he speaks of the lynchings and cross burnings. Heck, I have a laugh when I talk w/ my sister about Charleston's "market square"... What do these idiots think was sold there???
  10. They are both doing God's work. (and setting shining examples for the grantwins) I hope we see an update from TJ now that he is back in county. I've been looking for a turkey baster for the better part of an hour. Time to head to the dollar store, I guess....
  11. I'm sorry for the false start, when my little sister saw that scam FB Marketplace ad. We are both eternally grateful for the work he does. She is writing a book "We Had a Slave, Her Name Was Lucia" A beautiful woman from war torn Honduras in the early '70's. This government was absolutely horrible to the 'banana republics'.....
  12. Our tare weights are the same. I have 4.10's. I get 10, at 3k 75 mph. If I go 90-95 then wind drag increases exponentially (square) and mileage drops.
  13. What engine in a crown Vic wagon has a 4,000 rpm redline??? I've only ever bothered with the LSC's Changed throttle bodies and installed shorty headers. Plugs aren't bad if you have the "quick detach" fender wells! I just figured that if you were putting that kind of stupid mileage on every week, the comfort would be worth it.
  14. I think that too tall is not a problem. You can take them down with a belt sander or a grinder and a 24 grit disc. Bigger question is the durometer of the rubber, Will. 🤔 My truck doesn't have anything like this, just a normal transmission mount. Are you doing this on solid ground or up in the air? Usually the shop would use a prop with a threaded collar to hold up the tail shaft/output yoke.
  15. Pretty much. 🤷‍♂️ My truck gets the same with nothing in the bed as it does with my usual 2 filled job boxes and assorted tools (about #1,000) It gets the same with the camper in the bed/over the cab. It gets the same hauling a loaded race trailer to Daytona Speedway (about 1,200 highway miles each way, so I get to stop at least 4x) Gary likes his 460 but he will say the word "economy" doesn't belong in the same county with it. I say mine will pass everything but a gas station, but I have lower gears than he does.
  16. I didn't get to it today, as I'm trying to resolve the darn crush collar in my diff. Need to beat the pinion out of the front bearing w/ a #16 hammer.... Can't work as shown (or in the AllData) but I DON'T understand why it got flattened in less than 2 miles. I just need my truck back, and I'm beginning to feel the curse is not me, but her.... Glad you found some wheels. Should make Holly & the kids happy too. 👍
  17. Hard to find these crew cabs. It's the third one I have seen in the area in 12 years. Confirmed 460 under the hood. Per the current owner " It eats gas like a M$3@!*!** " 10 No matter what. 10 mpg. Uphill, downhill, foot to the floor, it's a 460. It doesn't care...
  18. ???? The Allison's in the 550-650's are always SO much fun!
  19. I was trying to give the neighbors a break, but it's sticky & still.... "Air that you wear" in Cory's terms!
  20. The puller was $9.95 closeout at Horrid Fate! 👍 (My real tool boxes remain in Wilton....). 😖🙄 I even have 2 quarts of type-F!!!
  21. And it's a U-haul part again! (I Love those guys ❤️) Thank you Gary! 🙏
  22. Leg up on me! I'm fortunate to have very good short term memory (becoming CRS as I get deeper into my 60's) And a almost intuitive sense of how things fit together. Have you considered a MK VIII, with the bags removed?
  23. This is an interesting explanation of why LLM's lie like a rug. https://arstechnica.com/ai/2024/06/researchers-describe-how-to-tell-if-chatgpt-is-confabulating/
