  1. Maybe I am wrong? It wouldn't be the first time, and it's probably not going to be the last. I've never seen a red flex except on a very early truck (and I believe the difference came in '81?) I apologize if I have this all wrong in my head. (it's a dark and scary place -full of cobwebs- in there!)
  2. Believe me, I'm not trying to sell you anything. You gave me a list and I'm trying to come up with expedient solutions that can work with what you already have. A $15 switch isn't going to break you, but I totally understand where you're at (look at my rear end! 😳)
  3. I think his argument is for a vacuum servo over a stepper motor..... 🧐
  4. I'm not talking about the switch threads, I'm talking about removing a line nut and making up a line with a banjo fitting, so you can use one of those pressure switches without switching master cylinders (again)
  5. 3/4 ton and up have wider stud attachments. You need to slot these to put an 1 1/8 bore MC on a lighter truck.
  6. You're welcome! Do you want them both or just the 1988 one that closely matches you truck? Since I don't see my finances allowing me to go for the LS carrier and clutches in this lifetime, I'd be very grateful for the regular 4,10 open tag. 🙂
  7. It has the full gauge package rather than idiot lights, power brakes, power steering, 6.6 400 V8 (rather than the base 351M), western mirrors, snow plow prep package, and the high output heater. All of those are options over a standard F350 if I recall correctly. I know nothing about 1980 trucks but I've definitely found the one person who is! Please do me a favor and send me an email before I lose my mind
  8. Do you want me to find you threads that show what fails and how to fix it??? That would be a big help 'cause I forgot my map & compass. In other words, I'm lost. Here's a few to start. If you use the search function to look for "blend door" more will turn up. https://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/HVAC-Doors-help-tp81810.html https://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Blend-door-repair-question-tp57653.html https://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Improved-HVAC-blend-door-as-discussed-on-forum-recently-tp130679.html https://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Heater-Blend-Door-Alternate-Design-tp112193.html
  9. Absolutely F this Captcha 🐂💩! I'm right about done with this forum software and it's 'quirks' I can ABSOLUTELY identify motorcycles, stairs and palm trees. But not some deliberately blurry thumbnail on my phone screen. It is NOT MY JOB to train someone else's AI to identify random objects from satellite images.
  10. Nope, but I can send it your way if you send me your address. That's a very kind and generous offer Shaun!
  11. They were a separate option under the "Protection" option group. They could be had on pretty much everything except Broncos and maybe F100 although I don't see any exclusions listed in the brochure. Still seems odd that it would be the ONE option this truck was ordered with.
  12. Do you want me to find you threads that show what fails and how to fix it???
  13. So I will need to replace the first attached pic, climate control panel or the second attached pic, what I call the manifold, (the black and white part)? Either way, it's gonna be a booger. Mat already said what you have circled is likely a stud with a tin nut holding the thing together. The "switch" is the valve that lever connects to, that directs the vacuum to the various flaps/doors in the ductwork. It's represented in the EVTM drawings Gary posted. If the system holds a reasonable amount of vacuum you don't have to replace anything.
  14. I'm broke as a joke and already looking at $1500 worth of parts. 🙄 It would offset $489.78 for a carrier and spider gears. It's also not in stock..... So, that's kinda off the table, but I appreciate and value your opinion.
  15. My 'special' mind has a filing system of its own..... It could have been ANY of the section drawings. Maybe it's the one on Keith's forum? Maybe it's the drawing of one of the aftermarket ones I tried to show that member who wanted to gut his???? I am NOT good at knowing exactly where I come up with the minutiae I have in my head. Just yesterday I was driving to my brothers and we saw a purple fence. I turned to him and said it was OSHA Safety Plum. He was incredulous.... (until I looked it up on my phone and showed him!) Then he said "You are a (explitive) retard." Yeah, I'm THAT GUY!
  16. I assume vacuum switch you refer to is what I call the manifold, (pic attached), on the right side of the control head? I will try to check each pot vacuum line from the pot to the manifold while moving the control lever through the different positions and note if vacuum stays steady or bleeds off. I appreciate the help! He's talking about the selector in the climate control panel.
  17. My autistic eye for the incongruous asks "what's up with clearance lights on this truck?" Isn't that an XLT thing, or part of some 'lighting group' option?
  18. We should all be frightened! There's a lot to be said for driving a straight truck with a massive push bumper. 😉
  19. The call-outs are on the section drawing IIRC.....
  20. I was just trying to come up with a safe and simple solution for Kurt. I'm sure you (or he) can find the same switch I can.
  21. You "hate" that 40+ years of technological advancement has resulted in much better vehicles? I think you're in the wrong line of work. Maybe you should ask Mat for a job?
  22. I may know just a little bit about securing a load and towing things!
  23. Towing with a short wheelbase and laden trailer can be fun, Fun, FUN. I had to extricate some dip**** who was trying to trailer his 30'+ boat with a Jeep. Yeah, not too bright. Every night I have to confront the reality of the morons and downright dangerous vehicles we share the road with.
  24. What's the thread pitch on the splitter block/combo valve? My truck doesn't have one
  25. I'm not showing it any mercy! I have a beef with touchscreens in a vehicle but this Altima is old enough that it still has tactile controls (buttons, levers & switches) I wouldn't want a Tesla, for example. But short of all the freaking modules that fail new cars are great. A friend of mine was boasting about his Mach1 429 Mustang and I had to say that a bare bones 2023 Elantra would kick its ass by any metric. He was not pleased... 😂
