  1. Awesome! Congratulations on your new shop.

  3. Every bar, gas station service bay, boat club and hunting lodge on the planet back in the day.
  4. Yep....X2 If it were a Windsor I'd say the firing order (H.O. vs pre 85) But is sounds like you have the dizzy 180 out. Where is the rotor pointing when you're at TDC #1?
  5. Sorry to hear that the Ranger is acting up. 😟 They're great little trucks, but few and far between up here due to the salt. That battery sounds plenty big enough. Are you sure it's not the starter that's getting weird?
  6. My fuel gauge hasn't worked for years! I'd be lost without the odo!.
  7. Show me a Camry that won't go at least 300k with just basic maintenance. Back in the '70's it was like 65,000 miles, 100k from an American car was exceptional! And then there was the smog. Yellow haze in every city that would burn your eyes and throat. When I was too little to see out the car window (no child seats back then! ) my dad would occasionally take me to the (plastics) plant in Elizabeth. I could tell how far we were by the smells. Paint, oil refineries, asphalt, chemicals, and OF COURSE MOMO, or methacrylic monomer. Yeah, these new cars.... I HATE THEM!!!! 😡
  8. Damn! I know a thing or two about detached retinas. This is going to put the kibosh on her quilting hobby for a bit. But I trust she is good about following Dr's orders and will be back better than ever in a month or so. Take good care of her (I know you will!) My best to her! 🙏
  9. It's not a problem. It seems people miss the message all the time.... They sometimes flake out when they heat up or are under load. You can replace just the pickup https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/carquest-premium-distributor-ignition-pickup-mec2271/12521141-p?product_channel=local&store=4422&adtype=pla_with_promotion&product_channel=local&store_code=4422&&&&&gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAq4KuBhA6EiwArMAw1F3e0X7L_Ky_9ZPdTnK8cmU6f_bCR2w4undhigYdOz9zR3tn5irP2hoCO8IQAvD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds You need to dismantle the distributor a bit, though. https://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_index.html https://www.reincarnation-automotive.com/Duraspark_distributor_recurve_instructions_page-2.html
  10. I'm not quite sure what being an electrical technician entails.
  11. I don't think you're picking up what I'm putting down. I keep driving my truck because I fill it with stuff and I don't need a degree in computer science to repair it. I'm not interested in dealing with a overcomplicated vehicle that needs a $1,200 diagnostic tool with bidirectional control just to program a replacement battery. My 38 year old, gas guzzling rat trap is quickly running out of time though, because I can't easily find basic maintenance items like air filters and distributor rotors. I'm broke as a joke and have probably saved $250 in gas since I screwed up my knee and can't work the clutch. But this isn't my car. I'm not paying the taxes or insurance. That doesn't mean that for the VAST majority of people who just make a lease payment every month and only need to commute to their cubicle, a new, comfortable, fuel efficient vehicle isn't the best choice. Courses for horses, and stuff like that.
  12. Because it's paid for, cheap taxes and insurance. I can fix it with a hammer and a zip tie if I have to. I WILL get home! 😆
  13. MY battery works just fine, TYVM. Besides that 4DLT won't begin to fit my battery tray, while the tray is meant for a group 65 that has the same CCA Larry is the one with a problem. I suspect it's because of chronic undercharging and lack of use.
  14. More efficient, more comfortable, FAR quicker and faster. If you like bouncing along at 30mph with cold, rain or snow blowing on you be my guest! If you like getting out to crank the engine to life and managing spark advance, etc while trying to navigate a busy road full of idiots, knock yourself out.
  15. I can hold my fan blade in place with one finger. The viscous clutch is certainly not turning a bunch of horsepower into wasted motion. If you're moving the fan doesn't have much to do anyway. Back to my point... There is NO WAY turning motion into electricity and electricity back into motive power to drive something as hungry as a fan is EVER going to meet the the efficiency of just using that motion in the first place. Edit: You are not only using the engine to turn the fan at this point, you are ALSO using the alternator (indirectly) to hold the fan TO the engine! And there's not a hundred points of electron failure in between. You need considerable power to lock that clutch (hence, relays and big wires) You don't need to be a rocket scientist to understand this....
  16. Welcome Nathan! Not sure why the link in the boilerplate wasn't working??? There are 'issues' with the framework of this forum (Nabble) Unfortunately we can not fix it, and are working on a way to make that understood without having new members have to jump through hoops.
  17. Janey is in surgery as I type. Eye surgery. We were up at 3:45 our time and she was in the pre-op room at 5:30. I wish her a speedy recovery! Sorry to hear she has to go through that. It is painful!
  18. Welcome! First off I'm going to say Gary will not answer anything unless you first make a post in the new members section, like the email asked, where you can read the 'guidelines' Second, given you've already changed the module and coil I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest the pickup in the distributor. ETA: Hmmm, I was busy and Gary beat me here! Gary, you were up awful early today. Everything ok?
  19. If you have an early block and oil pan you need to get the timing case with all the same size holes. On D9TE engines the bolts either side of the FMS are bigger ( 5/16 instead of 1/4???) So, something to look out for when you pop the pan back on, especially if just doing the cover and using the little 'ears' that glue in place. Also, when you pull the cover, there will be a convolute weep passage for the ports either side of the water pump in the back of the timing case. (where it usually corrodes) Be careful not to fill these up with RTV on re-installation. They keep leaks from going directly into the sump, hidden from view.
  20. I use PST on ALL the timing case and water pump bolts. The Teflon keeps them from seizing/corroding into the Zamak case (anti seize tends to promote corrosion and makes it MUCH messier than need be) https://www.ebay.com/itm/285603901545?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-117182-37290-0&mkcid=2&mkscid=101&itemid=285603901545&targetid=1645685074288&device=t&mktype=pla&googleloc=1014778&poi=&campaignid=20133407470&mkgroupid=147476396765&rlsatarget=pla-1645685074288&abcId=9312979&merchantid=5308819465&gclid=CjwKCAiAq4KuBhA6EiwArMAw1PqoFME7y6GG1L8VON7YVyLFaegzV6Evj7hLgD25kYPlG5ACMrZ1UhoCJSMQAvD_BwE https://www.summitracing.com/parts/fms-m-8501-460bp?seid=srese1&gclid=CjwKCAiAq4KuBhA6EiwArMAw1N5shcXvwgWdxMTJYIgmRLrLvyLKDmQeO-BiNLV2JnTzyqEh8UN27BoC5VcQAvD_BwE https://www.summitracing.com/parts/sum-120114?srsltid=AfmBOopmW8G1299L4GUPdm403tqWWai7W1MbMFuJrs5bovcufUVdI5gbjyk https://www.landlproducts.com/460-motor-mounts
  21. I don't know why it's on the top, but I don't know that it matters. You can't put it actually at the bottom of the entire volume because there isn't room under the ring gear. So you can't get to where stuff will settle and you are only going to be getting stuff that's splashed up. And stuff'll be splashed up to the top of the cover about as well as anywhere else. Yep It IS in line with the ring gear. My autistic mind is always asking 'why?'
  22. So I'm going to read more to see how that is achieved and what the advantages or disadvantages are. But it would seem that it has to be a better approach than turning mechanical energy into electric energy and then turning electric energy back into mechanical energy. I guess it could work for Blue??? No one is ever going to beat the laws of thermodynamics. Phase change is inherently energy intensive. I try to make this point every time some idiot starts pushing 'green hydrogen' as a storage solution for automobiles or the grid. I'm really tired of the greenwashing BS
