  1. I really can't say. I have not had any experience with those perches. None at all. As around here on the forum more. Perhaps Dave knows of some?
  2. Thanks, Ray. Or is that Kotter? Here are the knobs/handles mounted:
  3. I had a constant 22" of vacuum on the dizzy. The Mityvac has a check valve, so if there's no leak then the vacuum is constant. And I don't think the size of the hose will change that - unless you get to an extremely small hose, much smaller than we have on these vehicles. And the amount of advance is proportional to the amount of vacuum. However there are springs in the vacuum advance canister that the vacuum has to overcome, so that determines the start point for the advance. That might be in the 10 - 12" of vacuum, but some canisters are adjustable for that - see the Crane Cams instructions for that.
  4. Wow! That's lots of power! I'm anxious to see how this goes. Using an IDI seems quite reasonable because they don't rev rapidly nor high, but sure do put out a lot of power at steady R's.
  5. Gary wasn't planning to do the experiment as he's installing seats and painting a console. But I don't think you can tune a dizzy via a restriction. I'm back to the electricity analogy - you only have a drop across a resistor/restriction if there is flow through it. And my experience is that a good vacuum can doesn't leak. So I'm still at a loss as to how this works. I'm missing something.
  6. That would be a start. What I was thinking was to put a dizzy on the bench and connect my Mity Vac to it via a VREST.

ID# PN Notes---------------- --------------- --------------------- E2TZ 6029-B Not in the cross-refE2TA 6061-FB E2TZ 6029-C E2TZ 6028-B Not in the cross-refAnd in case I've missed something, here's the relevant page in the cross-ref. You look up the number you have, either PN or ID #, in the Known Part Number column and the cross-ref will be to the right in the Service Or Engineering Part Number column. I can't find the two listed above on the page, and I've had the computer search for them.

  9. I think the only way to figure out what jet to use instead of an actual restrictor is to do it empirically. But I don't fully understand how the restriction works, so don't know how to go about it. I would think that restricting the vacuum would just slow the onset of advance, not reduce it. I say that because in my Parallel Systems class we were taught that you can model a mechanical system with electrical components. And I would think that a restriction pretty closely aligns with a resistor. And the voltage on each side of a resistor will be the same unless there is some flow of current. But in my memory a good vacuum advance doesn't have any leakage, so there shouldn't be any flow. What am I missing? There has to be something I'm missing 'cause the restrictors work...
  10. Ray - That sounds like an interesting project! I looked them up but didn't learn a whole lot. If you get the time how 'bout starting a thread about them and telling us what it is you are planning to do.
  11. 12A225 Restrictor assy, (distributor vacuum) Here are the part numbers so they can be found in a search: D7AZ 12A225-B Blue D9ZZ 12A225-A Yellow D6DZ 12A225-A Red E1TZ 12A225-A Orange And here is the table from the master parts catalog. Note that this doesn't show the 460, but all of the applications I saw used the blue one for it. And still no indication of the orifice size.
  12. Maybe "abrupt" is the wrong word. But the thermostats in our trucks also use a wax pellet and they open up pretty quickly according to my temp gauge. So far I'm not finding anything that shows what the orifice sizes are. But this guy said the one on his 'ard wrkn truck is blue. I'll keep looking.
  13. Yikes! That's quite a story. I think you are onto something about the slave size. At least it makes sense to me. Speaking of the slave, I think the ZF5 comes in two versions. If I remember correctly the small-block version is the one with the concentric slave, but the big-block has the external slave. So when I went from T19 to ZF5 I just used the existing slave.
  14. That's why I don't want to jump to just anything to get away from Nabble. I want to find some software that will be around for a long time and be user friendly. But you just raised a question that I need to answer for each platform we look at - where do they store their pictures? Luckily Nabble stores them with the posts, so even though Photobucket is deleting pics that won't hurt us. But we want our future platform to do the same and not do like FTE where just the links to the pics are stored.
  15. If you put ported vacuum to where Ford had VREST then you won't have any vacuum at idle until the temp gets to HOT. Then, assuming you have the other port to manifold, you'll get a lot of vacuum and advance. But that might be enough to move you at a stop if you didn't have the brakes on hard as the idle would go up quite a bit.
  16. Gary doesn't. I really have not played with EGR. As for the Vizard book, I had it but may have given it away. A really good read.
  17. Pete - I'll see about signing up tomorrow. Thanks. Jeff - It is actually the other way 'round. The website and all of the documentation is on Weebly. The forum is on Nabble but is embedded on a page on the Weebly website so it looks like it is part of the same website. We've done something similar with the phpBB forum that you can see by clicking the menu item for New Bullnose Test Forum. That forum is actually on an Amazon Web Services server that Chris is renting a slice of, but we've made it look like it is on Weebly. Bill - I'm finding that forum software has come a long ways in the last several years, and older platforms have fewer functions. But I'll take a look at phpNuke. All - I got a note back from Franklin of Nabble: "I originally planned to write a replacement for Nabble, but I changed my mind and won't do this. I only support Nabble for my own use. Nabble will be around for a while but I think users should look for an alternative." So we do need to find an alternative, and this time let's find one we like. I don't think we are in a huge hurry, but it is good that we've started.
  18. Thanks, guys. I think I'll be happy with them.
  19. You do realize that 5/8 tap is a straight and the NPT tap is tapered? So if you run the straight tap all the way through you'll take out the taper and the pipe fittings won't seal very well.
  20. Pete - That would be helpful. They will probably know if embedding is possible. I frequently embed Word, Excel, and PDF documents.
  21. Jeff - You have some good ideas, and some I'd not thought of. But first, let's make sure we are talking about the same thing. The "forum" is the part that all of us type into, reply to, etc. The rest, which you get to via the menu above, is on Weebly and is not being considered for change. As for the cost, I will watch to see if there is a way for people to contribute. Right now the forum itself isn't costing anything, although there are charges associated with it. But if we move it will cost something, we just don't know how much. So I'll keep that in mind. And your idea of people being able to lock their own threads is a good one. But we might get their by creating a "forum" for those people since I think some platforms allow giving specific people the ability to manage their own forum. That might allow creating subforums and locking them. Good idea.
  22. Attaching is different from embedding. If I attach a file you then have to open it to see it, but if I embed it you'll see it in my post. For instance, here's the instructions I put together for painting with SEM, purposely kept short in order to keep the post small. Since I do it frequently it would be nice to know if can be done.
  23. Thanks, Pete. That helps a lot. I see that you can do bulleted lists and also align text, probably left, center, or right. What does the paragraph icon do? And when you click the "link" icon does it pop up like here on Nabble so that you just paste in the URL? Do you know if you can embed a document? I see the table icon, but I really like embedding Word, Excel, or PDF documents in posts.
