  1. Ahh…somewhere behind this mess you mean? If so, that might explain it. I need to clean this up and remove a lot of spliced in wiring. Thanks for the advice as always! There's a screw into the metal frame of the dash. Look for multiple black wires with ring terminals. If you look in the front of the '86 EVTM there should be illustrations which show all the grounds in place. If you don't have your own hard copy it's WELL worth putting a saved search into eBay and waiting for one to show up for about $25 delivered.
  2. Fuel tank senders ground back to the dashboard behind the radio (I believe) Let me check the EVTM.... Edit: yup! G701 is behind the instrument panel at the right of the radio.
  3. I think I posted pictures of the F-450's 460 hanging on the tine of a big Mitsubishi Seatainer forklift. Gary and Bill both got parts from that untitled truck.
  4. That's a big step Jonathan! The forklift came in very handy.
  5. Progress is Good! At first I was a bit surprised you didn't get a telehandler, but realized how wide open your foundation is. Not much like that here in the Northeast.
  6. They can get stuck pretty good. I only asked about using an impact because I know how threads behave in steel and cast iron. I agree with Gary. There's no issue with the crank losing that little chip but I wouldn't use thread locker on the bolt.
  7. Not sure how the last (first?)half thread could have cracked out unless the bolt threads stretched. Were you using an impact to put it on the last time? An interesting possibility for sealant, halfway between thread locker and RTV, is Loctite PST. I use this anaerobic thread sealant for many things like thermostat and water pump bolts. It comes it a couple of formulas and is indicated for use on stainless flange bolts in petroleum refineries, so it lubricates and protects against galling before it sets. It can certainly handle the fluids and temperatures found in an engine.
  8. The LRC regulators are also often found in Lincoln/Mercury products. A) the 100A inrush spike of the Mk-VIII's massive electric fan. B) the load of 8 way heated electric seats. C) hunting idle when the AC cycles in traffic. I'm using my stock alternator pulley on the 130A 3G without chirp or squeal on startup. I bought an L&L bracket to eliminate my dual AIR pump bracketry but I didn't use the larger included pulley (I sent it to Gary )
  9. I think you could cap the return port just fine but the bigger problem is that the two pin harness connector will not fit the four pin tank socket. (AMHIK!) It seems only the 460 & 351HO trucks got the three port mechanical fuel pump, with return. So the one shown (or one similar) would be correct for a 4.9 short bed/Flareside.
  10. Welcome Kevin. http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/uploads/6/5/8/7/65879365/waving_orig.gif 1985 was when Ford changed to the bigger tank bung (except for Broncos!) Some carb models have a mechanical fuel pump with return line from the pump itself.(at least I know mine does) But it still has the 2 pin connector at the tank bung. If your truck has a three port selector valve and only a single fitting at the tanks you need a sender like this. https://eclassics.com/eclassics-1985-1986-ford-f-150-pickup-truck-stainless-steel-fuel-sending-unit-non-efi-3-8-16-5-gallon-side-mount-tank/
  11. Harley Davidson oil? Ie 50W? No. Motul 10W-60 was on special at Amazon for $32/5L container.
  12. . . NICE! 😁 Do you know the static compression? What intake and carb is it going to wear? Sticking with DS-II or are you using something else for ignition? i really need to plan a new engine for my truck. It is starting to show low oil pressure when hot, and I'm not going to pull it to install the Melling high volume pump I have, and put it back as-is when it's 15 years old. For now special oil has made the symptom go away.
  13. Then I'm going to say it started life as a cab & chassis (34" frame width) F350 dually pickups didn't come 4wd. Sounds like a fun project the two of you can share the results of.
  14. Welcome Dave! Looks like a really solid low mileage survivor.
  15. My '87 F-250 truck came with a T-19 and currently has a Zf-5/1356 combination. I swapped the tunnel cover for the straight & raised Zf version but didn't even need to make new screw holes in my cab floor, much less cut anything. I don't know how much an extra 2" of lift block would change the shaft length but my stock driveshaft has plenty of slip yoke engagement. I'd be more concerned about the joint angles being different on each end .
  16. There is a vendor review section in the marketplace. Everyone is welcome to post their personal experience (good or bad) and create a new topic if the vendor they love... or hate isn't there already.
  17. I was commenting to Gary that we seem to be getting a lot of members from North Carolina. Dave Grant (FuzzFace2) enjoys bringing his custom Flareside around to shows and meets around where he lives. That cutaway truck sure has seen a lot of this country! Dually 350 and 4x4 is a rare combination. Perhaps a special build for the ambulance upfitter, or a Quigley type deal. Do you know the wheelbase? Have the two of you got any solid direction you're going with it? Id think one of the first things to address is lack of range if you're going off-grid camping.
  18. Click the orange box above the reply window (insert image) chose file, navigate to the pic on your device and select, under resize choose big size and click (insert image) Wait for it to load to the server and click (post message) This software can't handle large files. Try resizing...
  19. We seem to be getting a lot of members from NC. Gary will be by asking if you want to join our members map. You might have a look to see who else might be close. I know Dave Grant (fuzzface) participates in car shows with his custom Flareside.
  20. Welcome to the Forum. It should serve you well. The 400 is a pretty solid truck engine. Gary had one built to a torque monster (for a gas engine)
  21. I'm not suggesting to find "better" exploded views. Perhaps an annotation explaining to others that there may be differences from reality because they are generic. I think Alex just didn't get that the drawing was generic and it didn't matter D44 or D44HD the base number is the same. I only wanted to pinpoint the bearing he was asking about, and hoped he could grasp why it was listed as "right side only" https://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/ball-joints-replacement-Dana-44-HD-PS-Axle-SHaft-tp140830p141147.html
  22. Greetings and salutations! Thanks for joining. If your file is too large select large size from the resize options. Looks like a cool rig. As an Ambulance you're going to have a few unusual options in your truck.
