  1. That's cool! You really are peeling this onion in a hurry. You are going to have a Blooming Onion really soon!
  2. Yep, that's it. What's that off of? You said "big truck", and the hour meter suggests it was something like an F600?
  3. A "real" Check Engine lens? That would be cool!
  4. Got the Brother label printer in and downloaded all the software that goes with it. Brother, there sure is a lot of it! Anyway, I printed some labels and then wondered how it might be to print "Check Engine" in black on red tape. Holding this label in front of the light on Janey's iPhone, which is BRIGHT, it looks like it works pretty well. The black is a bit washed out, but then the warning light bulbs aren't nearly as bright as the one on the phone, so I think it'll work. Having said that, if I had a piece of red plastic I could print black on clear and stick that on the plastic. Thoughts?
  5. I've never seen one of those either. But that one is 'spensive!
  6. Interesting. I thought the ones for our trucks were red.
  7. Looking good! How are you going to finish the inside of the bed? Those wheels should look good, but sanding them is going to be a pain. You don't have someone nearby that could media blast them?
  8. Wow! That's one of the worst I've seen! Aren't you glad Scott suggested that?
  9. Now THAT is an EXCELLENT reason to staying close to home! Our grands weren't born near Tulsa, so we were there when it happened. Congrat's!
  10. Your "chipping away" is getting a lot done. It is going to be quite functional very soon.
  11. All I know is that I had a Flowmaster that made a 351W sound flatulent. I installed a Magnaflow and it was much deeper and quieter. Can't tell you which models, but I've used Magnaflow since.
  12. Thanks for letting me know where to look Gary. Here is what I found. 1FT = Ford Truck Complete Vehicle C = Class C 4,001 - 5,000 pounds F10 = F100 2wd E = Fuel G Cylinder 6 C.I.D. 300 4.9 Litre 1 barrel LD B = 1981 N = Norfolk 3B = Midnight Blue Metallic 3H = Medium Blue Metallic F101 = 81 Pickup 4700 GWP F100 2WD DB4 = Blue all vinyl Regular Cap w/styleside pickup box 99 Behind Cab Parts K = 3 Speed C6 Automatic 01= Ratio 2.75 Capacity 2.8M (What does 2.8M mean?) 21 = DSO Atlanta Welcome. 2.8M means the axle has a 2800 pound rating.
  13. Yup. My '58 Impala w/a 348 had huge torque and that caused two problems: the exhaust hitting the body if it wasn't positioned correctly, and the carrier bearing in the driveshaft, which I could lay over easily. On the other hand, I could come out on the clutch in first at idle, shift to second, and idle down the street at 550 RPM and 17 MPH. Dad's '60 283 wouldn't even think about moving in first at idle.
  14. My "connection" with Big Brutus was via 345 KV three phase lines. But, by "there" do you mean to see Big Brutus or the Big Iron rally?
  15. Not sure if you know how to manipulate that, but the file is searchable. You can do that in one of two ways. At the bottom of the page there's a button on the far right to expand the document into a new tab. And in the new tab you should see a spyglass for searching. Or, you can download the file and open it in an app like Word or Adobe.
  16. Thanks for the feedback Gary. I will attach a picture of the tag on the transmission and a picture of the wheel. Not sure if it will shed some light or not. But it is an automatic 6 cylinder with power brakes I think. I am not sure what I will do for tires yet. I am missing a poverty cap but maybe I can find one to make it complete. I can measure the wheel spacing later to confirm. Tag on the automatic transmission. Wheel with no hubcap. The best way to find out what you have is to decode the certification label that should be on the driver's door jamb. Go to Documenation/Specifications/Certification Label in the menu. I'm not finding exactly that number from the transmission in the master parts catalog, but I think it is a C6. But you can tell that from the certification label as well.
  17. I like the sound from Magnaflow muffs better than that of the Flowmasters. I think they are deeper and quieter.
  18. Not even close. The cylinder OD is bigger that the OD of the screw. It won't even fit in the hole the screw goes into much less go into the hole in the screw. But a guy on the Bronco forum said he has extras and offered to mail me one ! So I should be good there soon! Good plan. I might have one if that doesn't work out.
  19. Well, you have a lot of work to do. But it sounds like you have the gumption to get it done. Speaking of sounds (), maybe your dog would appreciate you getting new tires? The sound that compressor makes must be annoying. What engine does it have? Transmission? Power brakes? I ask the latter because some of the F100's came with 5 x 4 1/2" lug bolt spacing, which is the same as many of the cars had. And, if I remember correctly the ones with power brakes and a GVWR of 4600 to 4700 lbs were the ones that have the smaller bolt pattern. Anyway, you are going to have fun!
  20. Welcome, Jonathan! Glad you joined. That truck has a lot of patina. What are your plans for it? Where's home? I ask because we have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we can add you if we have a city/state or zip.
  21. The security system is explained in this thread: http://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Installing-A-Code-Alarm-ca1155e-Security-System-td90983.html#a91039. But it isn't up to date as the discussion about door lock motors isn't complete. DO NOT BUY the ones shown there. They are JUNK and do not have enough power to operate the locks. I wound up using old Ford door lock motors, which are much stronger, and using the boots from the ones off Amazon to cover them. The on-board air system is a 110v compressed air system for airing up tires. It is run by a 3KW inverter, and will be used at the end of a Jeep trail to bring the tires up from 15 to 30 PSI so we can hit the road safely. EFI is going on for several reasons. I'm passing the truck on to my kids and want something they can maintain, so I'm going to install Ford's EEC-IV system so there's an OBD-II port into which they can plug a scanner. But the EFI system will provide better economy than a carb, and it'll provide better performance across the wide range of altitudes that I plan to take the truck to.
  22. Yes, the weight goes up into the screw. See if the cylinders will go in. I'll bet they will.
