  1. You're not alone Cory. We're at least two. Happy for you to having found a decent one. Sorry for your wallet...
  2. Thanks Bill. About the "dealer installed" kit, is it possible that it wasn't on the steering wheel? If so, this is not the project I am figuring out. I am willing to find an old OEM installation and take it out from a donner truck. As for example, my local yard has a 1988 Econoline speed control equipped. Maybe I could take on it most of the needed parts?
  3. Hi Gentlemen! Well, I digged throughout the forum, and found multiple topics about CC. But seems that all of them are assuming that we already know everything that has to be about the subject... This is not my case. So, pardon me if this question was already answered in the forum and if so, please just point me to the right thread. BUT, if not, would be very kind to take me by the hand and explain me the basics of an OEM CC. Let's say that maybe, there is a vague possibility that I would probably contemplate to eventually install an OEM CC in Big Bro: - How would you describe the general functioning of the CC system? - What are the required components I will have to seek for? - Is this a difficult operation, or something a lazy mechanic can do himself? My goal: - Add the comfort of a CC to Big Bro's drive. - Has to look as if was dealer installed in 1984. Thanks for your advice!
  4. Last fall, I decided to replace Big Bro's small original one for a larger. Wanted a copper one, ideally OEM. Every manufacturer I found on the web was BO. And it is not cheap. So I went to my local salvage yard and they had a clean one. I sent it for testing, came back tested, good shape, cleaned and painted. All for 100$. Maybe I was just lucky. OEM, so fitted like a new.
  5. According to Car-Part, there are only two of these specific 1996 transmissions available east of Calgary, Alberta and they are both in Quebec! The first one I looked at in Marieville southeast of Montreal, but the second one is in Saint Jerome! Do you know this company below? I'm going to keep searching around and see what else I can find, but this one in Saint Jerome might be my next best option. There's nothing out here on the east coast. My brother in law lives near Marieville, and St-Jerome is close from here. I do not know Miron, they look to have a good yard. If we can help you, it will be a pleasure.
  6. This is probably a requirement specifically for products intended for the Quebec market. Even if English and French are the two official languages in Canada (see: Official Languages Act), Quebec added some specific rules about French use in its territory (Bill C-11). I found this interesting summary on the International Trade Organisation web site: «The Province of Québec requires that all products sold in the province be labeled in French and that the use of French be given at least equal prominence with other languages on any packages or containers. The Charter of the French Language requires the use of French on product labeling, warranty certificates, product manuals and instructions for use, public signs, and written advertising. The Office Québécois de la langue Française (Québec Office of the French Language) website provides guidance on these requirements. Note that these rules do not apply for non-retail/consumer goods if these goods are coming from outside the province and will be incorporated into a final assembly of a larger product; will be used in a manufacturing process; will undergo a degree of transformation; will undergo any type of repair; and is not available in the retail market in Québec.» This could explain why, even a vehicle is built in Ontario, the VCL could be different if the car is intended for Quebec market. And, if the vehicle already has an English only VCL, they just add a French one beside, before shipping it to Quebec's market, like in Cory's example.
  7. That's a bummer that the truck is already parted out. If not too far from Montreal, I could have go there for you. Frankly, I don't understand how a truck can be so dented with so low mileage, even here in the Quebec Salt Kingdom. I suspect there is a missing Zero at the end... There is no pictures of the under frame? If we admit (which is difficult) that the body panels were somehow much more "rust sensitive", a 11400 miles frame (and muffler, and exhaust pipe, and suspension, and brakes, and wheels) should be in relatively good shape. I admit that the interior looks very clean. But from the exterior, for my part, something fishy is going on with the mileage.
  8. Does the seller have some maintenance bills, with dates and mileage, about oil change, winter tires swap or that kind? Windshield, windows, bezels: Should look new, no wear, since no road debris or particles impacts. One could think that this truck did 90% of its low mileage in a salt mine... Oh, just one more thing… If very far from home, there could be a member who lives close and who could go see it for you?
  9. Ok, my wife had a party at home, with some university friends who didn't meet for over 30 years. Was very funny, we're all getting older bodies, but everyone is still the same we were in 1989. What a nice weekend! So, there was few cars in our driveway, I took a look to their VCL, just for fun. Toyota Highlander, Landrover, Volt, Terrain, Cadillac CT5, Nissan Rogue, . All the same: Their VCL is bilingual, a single sticker with English and French side by side. Example:
  10. Good question Cory! I never paid attention to the VCL of my recent vehicles. They come with owner's manual in English and French, and security stickers are bilingual (as for air bags and seat belts, for example). I'll take a look to my GMC Terrain and my Volt VCL, I'm curious.
  11. It's disappointing for the pump, it makes you wonder if there is anything that is not made in China. Good to hear it looks to work well!
  12. I agree Gary. The more I think about it, the more it points toward a pump replacement. It is truly noisy. Don't forget that I am a lazy mechanic. I really enjoy to fix things... once. We have this truck in the family for decades, I personally own Big Bro for almost 20 years. Maybe I'm getting older enough to forget the preceding season pump's sound. But I prefer to think it is the pump that is getting too old.
  13. Nope. But this can be an option I can consider. Thanks for the info! Jeff you can get the cooler loop with return line from JBG for $35 (U.S.) Thanks Jim. If anybody has a pict of an installed one, I'm curious to see where it goes on the crossmember. Simply looking at its shape, not sure I catch.
  14. Jim, just got an answer from Lares: «Hello JF, Yes our part # 12338 is a upgraded design which runs quieter than the original OE.» AmericanSavage, can you detail how is yours, really quieter than Ford OEM? Are you satisfied, anything to to reproach?
  15. Yep, I just sent Lares an email to clarify if #12338 is an exact Ford OEM reprod, or if they made some improvements, if so which ones. Stay tuned!
  16. Yep, working with mittens isn't ideal. I go there too often. We have a pretty "fresh" spring here too. -6°C this morning (22°F), but hopefully we have warm days since 2 weeks, so snow is almost gone (only north faces of hills still white). Does Eddie have mechanical or electrical pump? Happy to see that the job is a success!
  17. I drilled down through the applications on their site for an '86 F-350 and came up with a part number 12338 I found this one on Summit: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/lsc-12338 Listen, I drive F-550 flatbeds with 23,000 gvw that have Saginaw pumps. There's nothing bad about them in a medium duty truck. You found it Jim! So, since I prefer to not MacGyverize the pump bracket/fittings/etc and keep Dummy-Easy, there are 2 choices: - Brand new Lares CII. I am wondering if they made some improvements, or if it is simply a "new" CII. - Lee Franken-CII-Sag, which is costly but really appealing for an easy quiet swap. Maybe I will finally hear Big Bro's engine instead of his power steering pump? PS.: About Saginaw swap, I am trying to keep Big Bro as close to stock as possible, even under the hood. I know, I'm crazy, but it's a kind of game. If Sag swap was really "plug and play", I would seriously consider it, even not "stock looking". But since I'm a lazy mechanic, I am tempted about the Lares (and more the Lee) options.
  18. Jim: I went back to Lee and explained that guys on this thread are discussing about their CII replacement pump (I pointed them to our discussion's hyperlink). Also mentioned your concern about the "1500 Trucks warning text" (THIS PUMP ONLY FOR USE ON 1500 TRUCKS AND CARS. NOT FOR LARGER VEHICLES). They kindly answered this: «Mainly, there is no hydroboost return. With stock tires you would be fine, but any larger tire, lift kit or additional weight would be a little much for the pump. Ford should have never spec'd that pump on larger trucks!» No mention about the "1500 Trucks warning". But, curiously, if you go back to the link Cory gave us earlier, the text was modified! I suppose that they realized the error and changed it. Didn't receive any thanks for pointing out their mistake. Anyway, this product looks interesting. Too bad I cannot find any testimonials on YouTube. AmericanSavage: You installed a new Lares CII, not a Saginaw, right? I don't find it on their site. I see some new Saginaw (Part 13153 Chrome and Part 13154 Black), and a "Universal" Chrome one (Part 13155). Is it really quieter than a Ford OEM CII? Do you have a link?
  19. In fact, they first replied with the question «stock tires?». It is after I confirmed, that they concluded with their final answer, including the Hydroboost precision. The tires size appears to be their main concern. I suppose that the weight of the truck plus large tires ground friction can be an issue. Hydroboost comes in second place.
  20. Jim, I was curious so I asked Lee about their pump compatibility with a F-350 4x4 CrewCab 351W. Here is their answer: «Our pump should work fine with stock tires and no hydroboost.»
  21. For the tape, when the cassette gets stiffer, the deck thinks it arrived at the end and forces the ejection. I remember couple of times in the "old days" when I switched good music tape in new blank cassette (throwing away the blank new tape), to fix a "force-eject" issue. Hey, this was before the doubling tape machines were available...
  22. Ralph, you're right! But I am sure that Big Bro is much noisier than ever this spring. Nope. But this can be an option I can consider. Thanks for the info!
  23. Hi David! Is the interior color original? Probably the optional interior color they called "medium spruce glow"? First time I see one, I like it!
