Cruise Control Basics (lesson request)
BigBrother-84 replied to BigBrother-84's topic in Bullnose Enthusiasts Forum
Willing to go on, but can't decide... What makes me hesitate is the difficulty to find a complete electronic system. Is there a good source? And how to be sure that I find all the required parts? I am also contemplating the "aftermarket" solution (Rostra), although not sure it is less complicated to install. Does somebody have experience with that approach? -
Gary... Is there a way to verify if I already answered to it? Have to admit that my memory isn't improving with age... Anyway, if I already answered, just delete one participation to the total. And here is my comment. SO, I came to this wonderful forum while Googling for a fuel door size issue. My problem was solved by a nice guy named Gary, who had on a shelf exactly what I was looking for. Big Brother is proudly wearing it since then: I can't say how grateful I am about all the support I find here. It is a gold mine, maintained by happy Dwarfs just looking to help everyone coming here and share their precious knowledge.

Hi Ol'Red! I just LOVE this kind of long term relationship story! And, BTW, this tu-tones red'n white color match is a very successful one! Did Gary sent you an email explaining how to start in the Forum? You probably missed it, like I did myself... This is an email asking you to go to the New Members Start Here folder, read the guidelines, and then start a new thread in that folder introducing yourself and your truck. Lookin to read you there, with some more picts!

Erik, I am waiting about UPS, arrival planned somewhere in the middle of next week. I plan to do the PS job (pump+box) during the first week of June. I'll document it here.

Motor Trend: Lightning Too Fast For Drag Strip
BigBrother-84 replied to Gary Lewis's topic in Bullnose Enthusiasts Forum
I learned to drive electric in 2018, when I bought my Chevy Volt. I also drove the Tesla of a friend. If you wanna go far, you have to go smooth. True it is exciting to crush the pedal to the floor and feel as Maverick compressed in his Super Hornet seat. But this is the best way to drain the battery so fast that you'll have to walk half of your trip. I really enjoy my Volt, I do not experiment the "range anxiety", since it is a chargeable hybrid. No more battery, just continue on the gas. It's economic, (76 MPG average, for my 5 years driving it). But you always want to extend your electrical range to its maximum, it's a challenge. So you develop a different way to drive. You learn to drive softly. -

Earlier this month, I emailed Lares and asked about their CII: Is this pump exact reproduction of Ford OEM ones? Which are well known to be a bit noisy... Or maybe you made some modifications about it? Their answer: Hello JF, Yes our part #12338 is a upgraded design which runs quieter than the original OE. I really considered the Lares' one. Seems to be very interesting. I hesitated a lot, but finally decided to go with the Lee, I am really intrigued about this CII with Saginaw guts...

Yep, there are plenty of comments on the Forum about that, I am aware of. But across the border, a Redhead is very very expansive. So I take a chance with a rebuilt NAPA one, crossing fingers. Really need to fix this oil leak. If I go to US, I'll probably consider to take a Blue Top aboard. We'll see.

You're right, the box begins to be crowded. Already carrying a spare ignition module, a caliper spring kit, couple of spare fuses. I seriously need to consider installing a rear seat storage... Am I slowly Garyizing myself?

4500 RPM tachometer - used
BigBrother-84 replied to 1986F150Six's topic in eBay, Craigslist, Facebook, & Kijiji Finds
Boy! I realize I was lucky, finding a complete cluster w/tripometer and tach. Paid it around 30$ USD at my local yard, 5 years ago. -
Test done. Yep, the PS gear box started to leak, generously. This old original box is at the end of the road. I decided it is time for a PS renewal. I do not want to dig myself in a refurbishment of the gear box, so I'll simply change it. Since Blue Top doesn't ship across the border, and Redhead isn't cheap (US to CAD $ exchange, plus expansive shipping), I'll go with NAPA refurbished one, correct price and lifetime warranty. Playing in that area of the truck, I'll change the PS pump too. I'll buy myself a nice treat with a Lee replacement PS pump. We'll see how it does, hoping it will live up to my expectations, stay tuned. The column itself is a NOS installed during resto, was lucky to find it. So, after this operation, the PS will be like new.

I am planning a "potential" and really "uncertain" road trip with Big Bro this late summer. I decided to put a new fuel pump, and I'll keep the "old" one in the glove box. We never know...
-
About 15 years ago, mine decided to die in a gas station, while coming back home from equine competition, loaded with horses in trailer, kids in the truck, 70 miles from home. NAPA one mile away, had ONE in stock, 15 minutes before closing on Saturday. I considered myself lucky. So, having a fuel pump dying in home driveway is, well, really lucky!
-
Asked my local yard, they don't. Good luck.
-
Wow! Everything is shiny! Even the fuel pump is twinkling!
-
Ok, good advice. I'll start that way.

Geeeee.... Shame on me! Did I tell you that I am a DUMMY? Now, you're gonna believe me, for sure. Erik, thanks for the lesson... So was I able to, well, discover that Big Brother already has a PS cooler. (Oh, this nice spring isn't part of the suspension?) I suppose it would be a good idea to clean it, so the heat exchange could operate more easily: Now, about the noise. While inspecting the pump/gearbox (and cooler:nabble_smiley_happy:), I discovered that the system is leaking. This seems to be recent, since there was oil on ground, where it is usually dry. Pump looks dry: Not sure about hoses connexion: And the under-gear-box is really wet. Not sure, bure I suspect that the oil leak source is somewhere there: Where should I start?
