    Trailer Wiring

Yes that is what I was talking about. Now if his wiring is that bad back there he may want to try and find a good one in the junk yard. He would need to match his truck if it has duel tanks so the harness would have the sender and tank switching valve wires. If he has electric pumps that would be another reason to make sure the new harness has them. Now if this harness down the side of the frame rail is still good but it is the tail light harness is the bad part then all he would need is that tail light harness and it plugs into that frame rail harness. Then when he does the tail light harness swap he could plug in that trailer harness. Dave ----
  2. I got lazy last weekend and never made it out to the garage but it was also in the mid 90's so also to hot to work. Didn't even cut the grass and I am loosing the cats in it LOL. I have also been thinking of painting the cab first so I know I will have enough paint. If I did the bed first and then the cab and ran out in the middle that would be a vary bad thing. So I will need to get the white paint and supplies that go with it and striping tape and figure how I want to work the 2 colors where they meet. I also have coming a paper taping machine with 3 different size paper & tape for it. In the past I have used news paper and it has worked well but we don't get the paper and not going to start just so I can tape up the truck for painting. I also have another project to paint once the truck is done. Dave ----
  3. :nabble_head-slap-23_orig:Well it was worth a try. I don't need them just yet but when something comes I need for a good price I get it and hold till the time comes. Thanks Dave ----
  4. Yes works great. I picked one up because I had to work in the intake / EFI exh manifolds and leaning across the top of the fender and cause 2 maybe 3 things. Next day black & blue on you from the fender. Dents in the fender. Broken ribs when the step stool fly's out from under your feet and you land on the fender putting a dent in it. Dave ----
  5. I thought Gary posted this up in another thread? Did you check the bible at the top to see if there is at least a picture with the base part number and that can be looked up from there. Dave ----
  6. Saw this post elsewhere Dave, and was wondering what other parts you may need? I stripped my truck of A/C and still have some of the parts laying around. No 300 six specific parts like brackets, but a few smaller things. I need hoses and compressor that I will get new or I may even try and make the hoses as I have an 81 (York compressor) HVAC box but will be using I think it was a 83 (Sanden compressor)compressor so I don't know if either the 81 or 83 hoses will work as the 2 years use different types of compressors. Now what does not come with the new Sanden compressor that I will need are the Sanden hose manifolds bolted to the top of the compressor. From what I found in checking for the new parts is that the manifolds did not come with the compressor and could be hard to come by. So I guess if you have a Sanden compressor that has the 2 hose manifolds I could use them the rest of the needed parts I think is best to get new. if you do have the manifolds let me know what you want for them. Thanks Dave ----
  7. The one I use is in Benson they carry PPG line of paint. I don't need to match a color that is already on the truck so any silver would do. Thanks again Dave ----
  8. The black wheels are still on the other side of the truck...lol. I'm not 100% sold on the new chrome wheels yet. I like them, but they might be too blingy...I don't know yet. Jury is still out. The cab still has not been painted, so it's still the old chalky and faded blue. Hopefully get that done by the end of July. I'm just trying to get it finished enough so that I can drive it to the body shop...lol. Ok the chalky is what makes it look lighter shade of blue. The black wheels I think make it look racier like NASCAR truck wheels or road race wheels. It could also be they are different? Seams everyone has chrome wheels on their car or truck. At least yours is on the road (some what) mine can only go just outside the garage Dave ----
  9. Thanks for the answer. I also have Reamer's plate bracket and when I got it that is when I started looking for it then stopped as I did not need it right then .... squirrel I did not know you had what was left of the factory one or that you could still find NOS ones? What magic search word did you use to find it and was it killer $$ for it? When you get it you have to post a picture so I know what to look for as a replacement if no more cheap NOS ones show up. Dave ----
  10. Looking good Does the cab need a good cleaning or ? as it looks to be a different color from the bed and yes I know you will get to it. That is 1 reason why I hope I have enough red for the bed & cab. The girl mixing it had a hard time finding the mix codes in the system and using the spec paper I gave her from the last 2 qt's I got it did not match? When she called be behind the counter to show me to issue she then found it. I dont know if it is right or not for the truck as long as color matches what I have sprayed already and is all 1 color on the outside and it should if I have enough. BTW I like the black wheels better over the chrome but you know what they say? It's your truck build it like YOU want. Now go drive it. Dave ----
  11. Good to hear the truck is doing well. Yea we need AC down here (NC) and one reason I got the parts truck that had AC but little did I know that the AC and non-AC trucks had different firewalls but nothing a firewall swap could not fix. The hard part of mine is the compressor brackets for the 300 six. A member on here was vary kind and got me a set but still need other parts. I get my paint supplies from NAPA so when I stop to get the white paint I will check on that most likely in the BC/CC and shiny also. Thanks Dave ----
  12. Yes sir I did. Here they are side by side. The originals had some white paint sprayed inside. Thanks It is funny they have a small bulb for the side marker light in the new light and none in the old one. Also that the new one only reflects off the back and not the one side. On my other project I plan on using 4ft ceiling light defuser what they call crushed glass between the bulb and the lens to help spread the light out and paint the rear of the housing to put all the light out I can with the 2 bulbs per side. Looks like there is room of improvement in that light also LOL Dave ----
  13. Why not I think the flare side has been brought up once or twice and want to say they cant be had when we looked before. I started to looking into a replacement that we could use and think I listed them in that post, I don't remember now as it has been a long time now as I did not need it then. Think OZ needed one too. Just was wondering what Cory had for his truck is all and maybe see a real picture of a factory light and not from a parts book picture. Dave ----
  14. I went to a State Tech high school to learn the auto trade and you only got out what you were willing to put in as the teachers were not there to baby sit. If you were willing to learn and do work they would teach you. I would say there were only 5 or 6 of us that would do work and really only 3 that did all the time. As they say wish I put in more to learning than I did. We had a Suburban that was given to the school but in the 4 years I was there only seen it 3 or 4 times. We learned on cars customers would bring in for repair. How many get to do a valve job on a Packard the whole job not just pull the heads and send out or do a v6 or was it an v8 into a 63 Jeep, teachers jeep. We had a fork lift we got running that had not for years. Even helped the teacher rebuild a TF727 for his wagon. I already knew how to do body work and helped teach others how to do it on their cars as the school did not have a body shop at that time. If the kids can learn how to test for issues on the older cars & trucks with out computers I think it will help them when they start working on the newer computer stuff and don't have a computer. I think now days they don't know how everything is to work with out a computer to tell them, it's sad. Dave ----
  15. It was listed as silver carbon, they added the color when it was made IIRC. I did this years ago when that project was on the front buner. leopard color would clash with the colors of my truck but that pink zebra that may work Not ....... Dave ----
  16. You are about 2 years to late as I have them sitting in a box ready to go on after paint. Dave ----
  17. If the masses like it and it sells why not See I was thinking snake skin Now don't be a hater but I did a over lay in real carbon fiber but in silver not the black you see every day. Its what you have to do for a 1 year only dash over lay no one makes replacements for and did not like the wood type the car came with. The silver looks close to a base model overlay you hardly see in a car. Dave ----
  18. Just a thought have you pulled the red lens off a light yet? Wonder if the inside is black like the outside housing or a different color? If black if you could put something in there to reflect the light back out better maybe like tin foil? Just thinking out side the box and then with a 1157 LED bulb could be pretty bright I guess? Over in your "ground wire" post I asked about the plate light what do you have? Dave ----
  19. And to add to it did they also use the same plate bracket? Good question Dave ----
  20. Little late to the party. I have seen it posted of this ground wire on the firewall behind the radio but I don't ever remember that ground on either of my 81 trucks when pulling them apart or putting this one together? From what I am seeing my truck(s) being 81's may not of had one there? On the tail light ground I wish I could add something but the wiring from the rear wheels back was a mess and only had 1.5 lights and not even stock lights at that. Now if you have a ground wire back there for the plate light (I have a question on that) why not run that to the rear sill and being everything is bolted to it the lights would be grounded no? Could also run a ground from the frame to the rear sill as with the spare out of the way you have lots of room and would be "covered" with the spare in place. And I can see why you asked how it was done at the factory to see if something was missing or like was pointed out how it may have been done later. Then you can pick how YOU want to do it and like you I don't think I would like a ground wire running next to the main light wires outside the bundle, looks tacky and un-finished. Now that plate light question, do you have one and is it factory or after market? I and sure other will need one at some point and wonder what you are using. Thanks Dave ----
  21. X2. As much as I like the LED's from LMC, I think Grote may have them also? at $80 ea is a little hard when you can get ones like you have for even half that. I know the truck side will not have the right plug as I am using the 8' bed style side harness and I cant remember if the flare side light parts my brother sent have the plugs or even the rubber grommet. Does look nice so when will you have it on the road for and out doors picture or 2? Dave ----
  22. Parry let me first say thanks for taking this on. Gary that is what I was thinking once he has the "finishes" and the pattern for the bezels we would pick the finish that we want. It would not need to be just what Ford offered either. That would be great as I have the bezels that the wood is peeling but the wheel is in good shape but if I / we had to buy it as a set I am sure that would be good. Thanks Dave ----
  23. I have heard the same thing on the hose clamps and think easier to move than tape & coins. Dave ----
  24. Well I just learned something I would have thought when the belt changed the water pump would too like the 302. Dave ----
