  1. John - Can we move this discussion to the Website & Forum Suggestion Box thread? Not that I'm worried about keeping this thread pristine, but I'll never think to look here for forum or website issues. But, since we can move this post as well, let me ask a few questions. First, what do you mean by "either of the above"? I missed something. Email and??? Jim suggested spam folder, but I think you are not even getting the email to go to anybody. Right? What happens when you click on "Send Email To" someone? Do you get the page shown below - using Jim as an example? What happens when you fill out the form and hit Send Email? We ran some errands today so I didn't do much in the shop. But I got the relay box positioned, as shown below. And in this pic you can see the wires that would have gone to the tank selector valve but will now go through the gland nut into the box. And here's how I'll wire it. The tank selector switch is a DPDT that provides 12v to the Br/Wh wire and ground on the Red wire in the Front position, and 12v on the Red wire and ground on the Br/Wh in Rear. I want the relay to be in the Front position w/o power and in the Rear position with power, so the diode ensures that it only works when the power is on the red wire. And for reference, here's the factory wiring with the tank selector valve:

  3. Spent two years studying in EE, but ended up with Math & Physics. This was before there was such a thing as IT as it was in the last of the 60's. Work took me into what eventually became IT.
  4. Tell your friend he must be related to The Prince Of Darkness. (He will understand you just took a shot at the electrical system the Brit cars were cursed with - Lucas.) I would not go to points. No way, Jose. I'd either go DS-II or HEI. Here are thoughts on both: DS-II: You just need the correct distributor, coil, ignition module, and wiring harness. If you aren't going to run EGR then you should have the distributor curved to exclude it, so a stock distributor won't be quite "right", but you can get by with one. The coil is easy to find, as is the ignition module. The harder or more expensive part is the wiring harness, but they are available. Then you have a full Ford ignition system. HEI: That stands for High Energy Ignition, which is a GM system. It puts everything, including the coil, in the distributor with a giant cap. It still needs to be curved for either with or without EGR. And you need a relay to provide it power. But it is pretty simple. And it works. I'm sure others will chime in with their opinions. If it was me, I'd consider HEI. But I'm kinda 51/49 on that.
  5. Yep, and the engine cannot be running correctly. The computer will have its knickers in a twist because it can’t control the carb, so will have the timing locked. And MPG and power will be poor. You either need to go fully back to the complete emissions system, or change to a DS-II ignition system. Takes a different distributor, ignition module, and harness.
  6. We have many of the sections of the factory shop manual on here. Take a look in the Documentation section, where you will find the sections on engines, transmissions, brakes, etc. And, I think you'll get used to the interface. It is fairly logical. As for the air cleaner, go to Documentation/Fuel Systems/Air Cleaners (click on Air Cleaners) and read that and see if it helps you decide which air cleaner to run. Last, you are now on the map. Go to Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu.
  7. Yes, I'll enjoy it. For sure. This one's not a trailer queen. Dad's truck is going to be "that one". I hope that we get to have the Running Of The Bulls next summer that Ray has proposed. If so, Big Blue will be the chase truck, and will see plenty of dirt roads if not some hard-to-navigate sections. And I fully plan to take him on some overlanding trips. So it'll get dirty. But thanks!
  8. And that’s going to cause no end of problem if you still have the computer controlling the ignition. Can you show us a pic of the distributor?
  9. Thanks, David! Do you remember if there are spacing differences in the carb studs? Seems like there's a minor difference somewhere.
  10. George - Is there a reason you are looking for an aftermarket spacer? I ask because this thread gives a part number for an earlier spacer that didn't have EGR. And while that one is gone, you may be able to find another of them. That part, D7TZ 9A589-H, fits 77 & 78 El50/350,Fl50/350 trucks w/a 300 - - exc. Calif emissions. But, I do think the bolt spacing for some of the Carter YF's & YFA's varied. So I can't say that all spacers fit. Perhaps those that know will chime in?
  11. Vinny - Are you suggesting he has bent push rods? And, how are you? And where are you?
  12. George - I'd read about the polarity test with the AA battery, but had forgotten. Good idea! As for the bass test for phasing, I'd not read about that one. That's a good trick. Jim - You've just let years of maintenance pile up, so you have lots of layers of the onion to peel. Plenty of crying, but a whole lot of onion rings at the end.
  13. There's no reasoning to explain why did what he did. Yes, I'm having a whole new exhaust, inc Magnaflows, put on. So he might be able to put a heat shield there. Good ideaL
  14. Why do you like the aluminum best, Dane?
  15. Yes, there were short and long versions.
  16. For free, I'd grab it - assuming it isn't broken. There have been several times I've wanted one, and the only one I'd want is a fiberglass one, like that one.
  17. Welcome! Glad you joined! But your post is a little unusual as people normally start their own thread/topic in the New Members Start Here folder. That's not a huge problem, but if you want to start your own thread/topic there I can move this post to it. So, you are in Illinois. What part? I ask because we have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we could add you if we had a city or a zip. And, you are from Turkey? I've been to Istanbul and Ismir to go to Colossae. So, where are you from? Man, that is a serious TRUCK! I really like it! It sure is clean. But on the air cleaner, you might want to find an original to replace the open element one.
  18. Does your dome light work? It runs off the same fuse and wiring. In the diagram below you can see the left hand door jamb switch and Ckt 53 (Bk/LB) comes down to C125, which is presumably where you plugged your convenience lights in. And C125 is shown in this illustration. Is that the one you used? Did you get the lights grounded? They have to be to work. Have you put a meter on the Bk/LB wire to see if it has power?
  19. Thanks, George. I'm really anxious to get this thing fired up, but don't want to take any shortcuts.
  20. I, too, am excited for the project. I'm following!
