He and his son were working at his shop, so I came by with some NICE bacon cheeseburgers I made and some chips. We sat down to a nice lunch and then we went out to the shop and took care of my pressing issue! 😁 This: Much more effective than this: 😂 This is what used to be the 'six pack solution'. 😂😇

This is what I've been saying all along.... 🤷♂️ I didn't know you well enough to use electronic analogies. (I try to keep it simple, here on the 'net. 😉) So, I've come to another intriguing hypothesis.🧐 The valve itself is what's modulating the amount of vacuum. The REST is being a resistor (!) limiting how fast the vacuum servo can charge or discharge. 💡 NOW it begins to make sense! -

I didn't get a chance to get to my truck today, and measure vacuum at the distributor while running. But tomorrow after birthday lunch, I'm going to give it a shot. -

Yes, chrome is high on the scale, but PST is an anerobic sealant. No oxygen and no electrolyte means there can't be corrosion in the threads. -
That would grate on me too! At least their website is useable. And (especially that) their photos can be hotlinked here on the forum....

You're in Semi?!?! I'm right in the heart of what used to be an epicenter, with IBM all-over (HQ in Armonk) and ASML up the road in Wilton. I really geek on that stuff. Process, optics, dopants, whatever.... A bunch of the guys in my rocket club used to work at research & prototyping for BigBlue in Yorktown heights and Fishkill. I really like a Taiwanese guy on YouTube, Jon. His channel is Asianometry. Some good insights into the direction of fab in particular. Guy has an incredibly dry and quirky sense of humor, that I enjoy. I got that "He's one of us" right away.. -

I'm usually sitting in a tow truck in the middle of the night! Not optimal viewing conditions. But it gives me something to do, trying to help others. Today is a nice day for February. I've about ordered all the 'little bits' for my axle, but I'm not going to expose it if I can't finish. My brother asked me out to dinner tonight. There might be a surprise, but I guess I'll see, and hopefully tomorrow is a sunny day as well. 😁 -

Do it your way, my friend! Like I said before, I'm not trying to sell anything. I'm just a materials science geek that wants to share the reasoning behind my choices. Occasionally I come off as preachy or abrasive, unfortunately... You must understand, having a kid somewhere on the spectrum. "Truth's" are very important. Diplomacy is not often our strong suit. 😉 -

Should We Move To A New Forum Platform?
ArdWrknTrk replied to Gary Lewis's topic in New Forum Platform Discussions
I'm already conditioned to avoid it at all costs. (learned helplessness) And since I "don't go there" I don't know that I see any value. I'm mostly here to dig up parts and offer personal experience to users that have questions or trepidation. Because I have the recall that I do, I can serve photos, diagrams and empirical evidence (both good, and bad examples) I realize I'm the exception, not the norm, but if I have a place that I can be of use I'll continue to do so. -
Done! I wonder how much traffic we drive to JBG? (people see how many links I provide, mostly driveline suspension and bearings) Maybe Gary should hit them up for some swag at the next show? 🤔

There seems to be enough width, on my phone, in landscape. If that's what you're asking -
Should We Move To A New Forum Platform?

On a tablet in landscape it floated below the bullnose logo, and brought the whole 'shade' down to about 1/3 of the screen. With the keyboard taking up the bottom half, it was like a viewing slit in a pillbox and the function buttons and emojis were impossible... I can see about 10 lines now, and that's enough, if I keep my reply short. (or just go stream of consciousness like I did early this morning) -

They won't go to the expense of stainless. Grade 5 is lower carbon than 8 and therefore less prone to corrosion. The work hardening also makes G8 less ductile than lesser grades. Stainless is essentially cake frosting until you get into the aerospace stuff like Nimonic, Hastalloy or Inconel. You should ask Bill about this stuff.... He spent decades doing material testing at Newport News shipyard. -

On a tablet the added "test section for tables" takes up valuable vertical screen space. Makes it almost impossible to use if I'm trying to type a reply in landscape.. Not quite as bad as the edit window, but really bad nonetheless -

Edit: it's not shear. It's torsion.... Those bolts are corroded AND seized. Corrosion provides beach head nucleation sites for cracks. You're going to put Teflon on and in the threaded holes. This will seal water in the pump where it belongs. I used stainless because it doesn't corrode and seize in the threads, and the shanks CAN'T corrode when there's a less noble metal like aluminum or iron available. They come out much smoother when the shanks are smooth as well.... -

Look at the chart 5/16_18 = 33.8mm x 393Nm/mm =133000 Nm for gr5 /1.356 = 9,808 pounds EACH, tension minimum UTS. You could literally hang your entire truck from a tree by one of those 5/16 grade 5 bolts. And there are like seven of them in a water pump. -

I'm not sure what you mean "standard jet sizes" I used to use Sudco for Mikuni & Kehin. https://www.sudco.com/carburetors.html Euro Moto for Bing & Dellorto. https://www.euromotoelectrics.com/category-s/2249.htm Now you can get Chinese garbage at your door by 6am from the jungle/river market.... It's all the same. A simple hole in a piece of brass. -
