  1. Stopped at another quilt shop on our outing. Light? The one laying between the shift boots? Love it! Have used it bunches since getting it. Oh yes, when working with one of these lights around and you wind up missing a screw look on the base of the light. Took a couple of minutes today to find one of the two screws for the brake controller, which I’d taken off to get to a ground. Sure enough, the screw was on the magnet of the light.
  2. Trick Flow aluminum heads on Dad’s truck. Weingartner went through these heads. Aren’t many aftermarket aluminum 460 EFI heads.
  3. Janey and I are taking BB for a jaunt, and are just stopped for a bit. But, I’m running 1993 and later stick heads. Supposed to be the best of the EFI heads. And I’m running on the front tank! AFR was terribly rich at idle, about 10:1, so I leaned it up a bit and it idles better and pulls better. Cruises around 14:1. And is running pretty good. 😉
  4. I believe you will get "there", Gary! Thanks, David! Jim - Don't forget that I'm comparing this engine to the worn out one I had. That one was a docile giant. This one seems to be more tempermental. Granted it is early days and it needs some tuning, so this is early days. Anyway, Janey and I are taking Big Blue on an outing this afternoon. So this morning I'm dialing in a bit more choke, loading up the spare tire, and hopefully mounting the AFR gauge.
  5. The guy that did the exhaust system on Big Blue yesterday had one of those in his mouth. I was thinking "There are far better tools than that" but didn't say it.
  6. I just read back a few pages and watched the exhaust videos. Sounds great Gary! Well done. Thanks, guys. I'm really pleased with the exhaust. Now to get the engine running correctly and the leaks fixed.....
  7. 12/15/2011 https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1123180-dads-truck-build.html Almost NINE YEARS! Thanks, I think, David.
  8. Tim Meyer? [for those who might not know] Tim isn't building engines any more. He's concentrating on the Cleveland blocks and accessories.
  9. It is too late to change the classes, but I think Espy would lose to Dad's truck on the longest-time-in-the-shop race. I'd have to go back and check in FTE, but it has probably been almost 8 years. But go ahead and enter. Dad's truck is entered.
  10. I replied with: Next round: My reply: So I need to check total advance and install the wideband. But I'm a bit disappointed with the response about pulling from 1000. The old engine with, supposedly, the Edelbrock cam, pulled like a tractor from 500 RPM. Taking corners in 3rd was easy. But this one doesn't pull until over 1000, and many corners in 3rd pull it down below there. It feels like the difference between a plow horse and a race horse. (Not that I know all that much about horses.) But I'm worried that the lack of low-end torque will be an issue on the trail. And that worries me.
  11. Thanks Jim, actually this is for other families too. If I understand correctly it’s a government program to keep produce and meat from going to waste because of COVID 19, that restaurants didn’t use. Of course now a lot will be going to fire victims. Man, it’s bad out here. Fortunate that the trucks made it this morning. Several freeways were closed yesterday and last night because of the fires. Dane - The news is showing horrible conditions all up and down the west coast. You guys are in my prayers.
  12. I'm sorry to have to say this, but you were told to go to the "New Members Start Here folder where we ask you to start a new thread/topic in that folder about yourself and your truck." You did not do that. Once you have done that we can discuss a throttle position sensor. You may wonder what the issue is. We have guidelines about how we treat each other, what language we use, etc. Those guidelines are posted on that folder and we want everyone to have an opportunity to read them as we will hold them to the guidelines. Those that do not follow the guidelines do not get to continue as members of our community, and we don't want that to happen to you.
  13. That's an interesting point, Jim. I just sent Scotty a note asking about that. I'll report back when he answers.
  14. Jim - I'm still not getting good crisp acceleration and it feels like it is missing under part throttle. It isn't even smooth with full throttle, like there's a minor balance problem. As for the valve train noise, I'll try to record it, but it is hard to capture over the roll-over noise of the ZF5. Maybe I can put the t-case in neutral and the tranny in gear and get around it that way? Scott - You are right, they do sound like Borlas. Hadn't thought of that. I'm told the X-pipe makes it raspy. Bill - I have the AFR meter and its O2 sensor, so I'm wondering about installing it to help me figure out the roughness/missing problem. But I see what you are saying about the sensors for the ECU. I may take you up on that offer.
  15. That is a totally new forum and takes registration on it anew. And I'll caution that it gets REALLY confusing if you use the same email address to register but a different password. I did it and had a very hard time remembering where I was. Try it. I'll approve the request and you can post however you want.
  16. Thanks! Yes, I'm really pleased with it. Now if I can just get the engine running right. Part of it is that the choke is way too lean. But there's something else as well.
  17. No, but there is Best Story. And it wouldn't be hard to write up quite the story for Rusty. It is all out there "in print", from when I bought him, what I had to do to him to get him going, way beyond what I was told, your FiL's purchase, your acquisition and subsequent breakdowns, etc.
  18. Clay - That's horrible! I sure don't fault you for canceling that order. I would have done the same. And I hope that you get the new S&J engine soon. But you can still enter Rusty. The entrants don't have to run or be complete.
  19. There aren't that many routing options for a 460 4wd regular cab, so I left all that to the pros. And it looks to me like they hit a home run. I'll give y'all several shots and then include a video or two:
  20. Looking good, Jim. You'll have all the bits and pieces for that how-to in the near future. Dane - Good for you! Using the truck and helping others at the same time.
  21. Yes, with reasonable volume levels. On the way over I discovered that 1500 RPM is NOT where you want to cruise with those cherry bombs. Way too much resonance at that RPM.
