  1. But, I didn't use a J-Bolt, come to think of it. I used a piece of rod and threaded the ends.
  2. No, I didn't use the slot. This pic shows where I put the J-bolt, and you can see the tab with the slot in it to the left of the J-bolt. The tab is pointed straight up so it is hard to see, but it is the gap.
  3. We have a lot of hidden gems on the site, and I didn't want that one to be yet another one. Glad you could find it. And there aren't numbers on these parts that I can find, or not ones that seem to identify them, so pictures would be very helpful if the part isn't in a package with a # on it.
  4. That's what I was afraid of - the little speaker wouldn't be clear. At my age I'm having problems understanding so I need all the help I can get. I just sat in the truck and I'm not seeing a good spot for a hand-held CB, but the Highliner and a CB w/a down-firing speaker looks like a good solution. The antenna wire can go out where the bed light is and up to a magnetic-based antenna on the roof and that should give decent reception and transmission. And I think instead of using the foam to hold a CB in that I'll screw L-brackets to the roof and mount the CB that way. Then the lower panel can be perforated for the speaker and foam won't be needed. Thoughts?
  5. Ok guys, please check it out. The picture doesn't really belong in the list of part numbers, so I added this statement in the part number list: "See the picture of the hoses and their PNs on the Illustrations, Pics, Etc tab, then the Integral A/C tab, and then the Pictures tab."
  6. It is cute, but I'm not sure what makes it "Baja Race Ready & Rubicon Trail Ready". An open rear diff with no mention of a locker? No way!
  7. Interesting! With that I wouldn't need the Highliner. But, I still don't know where I would put it. I'll look today to see if there might be room. How was the sound through that small speaker?
  8. I like to quench the bolt with PB Blaster after I've heated it. The shock sometimes breaks it loose. Good luck!
  9. My reasoning is twofold. First, I was able to get the short block for about what machine work and parts was going to cost me. Second, I got a warranty, which I wouldn't have had with one I assembled.
  10. Ladies & gentlemen - we now have 47 entries for the show and I'm all caught up creating them. So I'm going to extend the deadline for another 24 hours to tomorrow, Monday, night at midnight CDT to see if some others might come in.
  11. Sam - Thanks, but it is a bit too late as we already have our reservations for Colorado. Shucks! As for the weekend, it has been busy - mostly computing. I think I've processed ~30 show entries in the last two days.
  12. That's my biggest worry honestly. I wouldn't trust the two or three in my county so will have to research my options elsewhere. Where exactly did BB come from? Scotty The Mad Porter. While he's a member on here that doesn't influence me. He's great to work with and I highly recommend him. However, what I wish I'd done is to buy a complete engine from him rather than a short block. It is a long story but I thought BB's engine had recently been rebuilt and I was going to put the F3 EFI heads on it so sent the heads out locally for refurbishment. Then I discovered that had slipped a junk yard engine in BB and told Vernon it was rebuilt. It was so badly worn out that I had to replace it. However, the heads were already done so I had to go with a short block.
  13. Excellent! I like the plan, Stan. But, you have reputable machine shops down there? Not all . Don't know that I'd trust them.
  14. Invite him to join. Seems to do good work.
  15. I thought about mounting it there, but on the roof makes more sense for a ground plane, and my tool box is aluminium so I'd either have to bolt it to that little aluminum piece between the two lids or put a steel plate on top of it. On another subject, I forgot to report back on the results of all of the work on Big Blue's frame. I no longer have the thunk when backing out of the driveway and making the turn into the street. I'm pretty sure that was due to the loose Huck bolt, and by replacing it with an oversized G8 bolt in a reamed hole, installing the low-friction material between the parts, and then torquing that bolt to the specs the problem has gone. However, it is possible that installing the left-out bolts to the engine perches helped. But whatever, the frame appears to be much more solid now. And, the clunk I had if you left off the throttle too quickly is also gone. I'd assumed that it was due to the headers hitting the frame, and apparently it was. Bottom Line: The truck feels and sounds much more solid now.
  16. I may actually have the pieces to take pics of. Let me look tomorrow.
  17. The other pic is fine, but what I think would be better would be to show both pieces - the one from under the hood to in the cab, and the one from there to the control. As I think I understand it, there's only one from under the hood to in the cab, but two from there to the control. Right? If we had a pic that showed all three, and the differences between the one to the control, we'd have it covered. I think.
  18. Dunno yet. Don't have one. But probably a base-loaded shorter whip on a mag mount.
  19. So let's post up some pics of the right stuff and I'll put them on the HVAC page with the right part numbers. Then Google will find it and eventually the right pics will start showing up.
  20. The only thing I don't like about my whip antenna is when it rebounds and smacks the hood. Gets me every time, even after over 8 years of having the thing. I'm thinking mounting it magnetically on the roof will keep it from hitting the hood - unless I forget to tie it down and go under a tree or something else low. No?
  21. I got a bit lost in there Chris, but on reading it again I think I have it. I think you are saying that AWS has cheap storage that would work well for backups. But what I'm actually asking is if there is a way to cause AWS to automagically back things up periodically. For instance, every Sunday I download a backup from Nabble for the forum and one from Weebly for the website. But in both cases I have to tell Nabble and Weebly to generate the backup and then they send me an email with a link and I start the download of the backup to my OneDrive. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way for AWS to take periodic backups and keep them X # of days or weeks? I'd be happy for the backup to be stored on their system instead of my OneDrive. On a different subject, I just copied the first post in the Big Blue's Transformation thread, which is fairly large, in a new thread on the New Bullnose Test Forum that's hosted on the AWS server. I wanted to see what the response time would be like. It was almost instantaneous. Hang on folks, there's light at the end of the tunnel!!!!
  22. Guys - Your librarian has done a poor job. He only listed 1 part number when there were more. The website as been fixed and here's what it shows:
  23. Shaun - It does look good. But I'm thinking that one overhead, like the 80's vans, would be cool! Seriously, two L-brackets screwed into the roof to hold it, instead of the foam rubber that comes with the Highliner, and the bottom plate of the Highliner perforated ought to work out nicely. Dane - I'll go into the input jack of whatever head unit I have if I have to, but it sure would be nice if the speaker on the CB would do the job. Jim - Back in the day I was WA0FFF. No linear, but a DX80 and an R100A. Lived that stuff. I remember so well walking up to a friend at college who was fretting over his final and it turned out the question was "What are the tubes & their functions in a 5-tube superhet?" So I walked him through, starting with the 35W4 rectifier. Directly off the ham test.
  24. The Highliner has speakers above the driver and passenger's head, which could be used. However, are you saying that your Cobra has a bottom-mounted speaker? If so I could perforate the Highliner's plate that goes under the CB and use the internal speaker. Or, is it not "quality"? At my age I need all the help understanding that I can get. Also, does the Cobra have an output that could be used to mute an external device, like an AM/FM radio?
