  1. Welcome, Jeff! Glad you joined. Want to be on our map? And by the way, someone suggested that we are becoming the FOG - Flareside Owner's Group. You sure have added fuel to that fire!
  2. Beautiful pic! Love the leaves. Were those lights original? Nice collection. But the snow suggests you are up north and I don't see 4wd on any of those. I guess you put them away for the winter? Where's home? We have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we can add you if we knew a city/state or zip/postal code.
  3. Well, I may have found a solution. Midland makes a magnetic base with a screw mount on top that accepts antennas. And it comes with a much larger RG-58 coax that I'm sure I can put a connector on. So the idea would be to cut their PL239 connector off, feed the coax through a waterproof gland joint in the hole in the cab, pull it above the headliner into the hole at the radio, and then solder a connector on. I wouldn't be able to remove the mount easily, but it would be low profile enough that it probably wouldn't be easily seen. And I can take the antenna off of it when I want to. Thoughts? Better ideas?
  4. And, by the way, here's a shot of mine. The thing on the other end is a 3KW inverter.
  5. Jeff - Two things. First, you missed the directions to go to the New Members Start Here folder and introduce yourself. We are a community and want to get to know each other. So we would appreciate you doing that. Second, we have one member that had one of those organizers made. I drew up the one I have and John/Machspeed had one made to that drawing. I'll ask him to come comment on that.
  6. I got all of the 13 threads in the right folder, so we are good there. So now I need to start looking at the other pinned items...
  7. Well, that's a bummer! I need y'all's help to figure out what to do on the GMRS antenna. I got the Amphenol BNC connector in today and proceeded to install it. So I ran hot-melt glue into the connector that was on the back of the cab and stuck a string in it to use as a pull string. That let me pull the short piece of coax out from above the headliner and have a way to get it back in. So far so good. Then I read, read, and re-read the instructions with the connector. I measured and cut the inner conductor, the inner insulator, and the outer shield to length, and then soldered the little "bullet" on the end of the inner conductor. At that point you are to push it into the connector, slide the ferrule up over the braid and crimp it on. I did. Then I pulled out the DVM and there was no connectivity on the inner conductor from end to end. So I worked the ferrule off and discovered that the inner conductor had broken and left the bullet inside the connector. So that connector is toast. Now the question is what to do? I could order another connector just like that one in, but it is REALLY a pain to use and I'm not confident that I can do it correctly. In fact, I don't know what I did wrong this time. And, to top it off, this connector is for a 1/2" hole and the hole I have in the truck is 5/8", so I was going to have to make small "washers" to put either side. So, what ideas do you have? I really want to be able to remove the antenna when I'm not using it, so that means I need a pair of connectors. But even if I didn't I'd need a weatherproof feedthrough and that won't work when the antenna is already attached to the coax with a hunking PL239 on the other end.
  8. Thanks, David. Both for the encouragement as well as finding the altimeter. Here's where I am on the truck as well as some thoughts about near-term projects on it: Rear View Mirror & Camera System: The vendor, Pormido, changed their minds about coming out with a different version of their mirror system, PR998, with two sealed cameras, one for the front and one for the back. Apparently there isn't enough demand for it. But we did establish that using a second one of their sealed backup cameras on the front bumper and using an external switch to select the front or the rear camera to feed to the mirror would work. Or, if I can ensure that no water gets to the "front" camera that was intended to be on the inside of the windshield, I could put it in a box and mount it on the front bumper. Last night they were running a special on the system so I could have gotten it for $170 instead of $200 and they were willing to give me another $30 off that. In fact, I could have had it tomorrow. But the 2nd backup camera wouldn't be here for another month, and it costs $50. However, they are coming out with yet another backup camera system with 4K pixels instead of the 1296 of the current one, and they seem to think it'll be by year end and I can be a tester. So I think I'll wait on it and then wire up the 2nd camera by either mounting the "front" one in a box or using an external switch to a 2nd backup camera. Lighting: I have my list together to buy from Daniel Stern, but I'm not quite ready to pull the trigger. He says he's "swimming in the stuff" so there's no need to hurry. Fuel Injection: I have a few more components I need to get, like injectors, before I start this. And our son, Bret, and family are to come right after the first of the year, so I want to make sure the truck is running then as I want us to take it on a trip. Given that, I'm going to hold off for a bit to get started. Maybe in February.
  9. Yes, I am going to tackle the tranny rebuild I've never done one before, so it should be interesting. I probably wouldn't have the courage to do it, but I found a YouTube series by a company called The Transmission Bench. They offer master rebuild kits that have everything you need, and then they show you in the videos step by step how to install everything - pretty much in excruciating detail, the E4OD instructional is about 16 hours long I think. I've already watched it all the way through once, to see what I was getting into. It seems simple enough, once you see the video. So with that level of documentation out there, no I probably won't document my build, it would never be as detailed and good as what's already out there. And it would take a lot of time to document properly. Instead I'll just say to watch the Transmission Bench videos if you have an interest in rebuilding your automatic. That makes sense. But make sure you give us the link. Also, you could document the choices you make, if any, on the level of parts. By that I mean, will you go with a stock torque converter or one that’s beefed up? Clutches? Etc.
  10. Yes, that was my bad. Any time I change a page's title it changes the URL, so I should always redirect the old URL to the new. I usually do, but didn't then. Glad you caught it.
  11. Ron - He has a '95 front end, and #18 is the shiny springs you see in his pic. They are very different than the Bullnose assemblies with the wedges.
  12. I'm guessing that you have a bookmark to the Literature page? If so, that page was renamed Manuals & Literature. But when I made that change I didn't do what I should have done and create a 301 redirect from Literature to Manuals & Literature so everyone's bookmarks would work. I have now so your bookmark should work. Sorry.
  13. Actually, your suggestion was the impetus I needed to think about cleaning things up. But the first crack out of the box wasn't good, so now I have more cleanup to do. What happened is that I decided I'd move the folder "2021 Truck Show - Sept 4th" into the Events/Garagemahal Ford Truck Shows folder. But the system wouldn't do it since we have the "s" in https now and it didn't recognize that as a valid permalink. So in the battle I wound up accidentally deleting the 2021 Truck Show - Sept 4th folder itself and dispersing all of the threads in the main section. Now I have to go find those threads and put them into a folder I created called, oddly enough, 2021 Truck Show - Sept 4th. Not a big deal but it caused me a lot of angst last night. Fortunately my mentor in things Nabble, Greg, told me what the problem was and I can do it. But then I need to think through what to do with other things that are pinned. So I'm thinking I'll start a thread about organizing them and see what others think. Yes?
  14. Welcome. I've learned a little bit about the catalogs, but the real guru is Bill/Numberdummy. He's forgotten more than I'll ever know. Anyway, happy to help. And yes, I think you can find them by using the part number. But, bear in mind that "7424140" is the generic part number. That is an arm rest for essentially any Ford vehicle manufactured anywhere in the world since 1965. To make it specific to a particular vehicle you need a prefix, like E3FZ, and a suffix, like "A8P". We've decoded the prefix, but the suffix is usually an A, B, C type of thing as changes are made. But in the case of trim it actually somehow decodes to color, and I have no idea how they get Charcoal out of A8P.
  15. I like that approach, which is why I asked how you did it. But they really aren't as big as I would like. However you can make them a bit bigger in a couple of ways. First, you could only have 3 pics/row. Or, note that in your post the picture frame only takes up about 3/4 of the available space compared to the text. At least it does on my screen. I just right-clicked the picture, copied the picture's URL, and inserted the image in my post. But, I added the text in red to force it to make the pic 100% wide. (I had to take the "" off the rear of the text so you could see it.) nabble_img src="HVAC_door_pics.png" border="0"width="100%"/
  16. I've moved this thread out of New Members Start Here to the main section. However, it could go in Projects and I'll be happy to move it there if you wish.
  17. I've moved this thread to the main section where it belongs.
  18. Tom - One reason you've not gotten a response is that you posted this in the New Members Start Here folder. Each new member is to start a thread about themselves there, but threads about other things, like this clip, belong in the main section. So I've moved your thread. Perhaps now someone will see it and comment.
  19. Tom - I moved this thread out of the New Members Start Here folder into the main part of the forum as that is where it belongs.
  20. I'm going to let Scott/kramttocs reply to your post as he is more familiar with the HVAC system than I am. But, I've moved this thread out of the NMSH folder into the main section as this is where it belongs and it will get more visibility here. Also, how did you get the pictures to line up that way? I think you lined them up on your screen and then took a screenshot and posted that? Just curious.
  21. I'm loathe to pin yet another thing. But I like the idea of having WHYDTYTT up top. So let me do some work to try to clean things up a bit, like move the 2021 truck show folder into Events/Truck Shows. And maybe some other things. And if anyone has any ideas on how to clean things up, please let me know.
  22. Well, this is interesting. The MPC's plainly say that the "F" in E3FZ is for the Mustang. So you'd think that an E3FZ 7424140/1, which was designed in '83, would have been used in the 80's Mustangs. But, it wasn't! Instead it was used in the 1983 - 87 Escort and Lynx cars, which carry the alpha codes of "M" and "MW" respectively.
