  4. Yes, LRC is a good thing. Holly & the twins are coming a week from today. Don't know what TJ is doing, but perhaps he will work on Lil' Blue? The plan on the French truck, aka Ugly Green, is that the wheels and tires I ordered today will get put on by Ian and I. Then we'll push the truck backwards out of the car port into the 11' space between the fence and the shop and use Big Blue's winch to pull it to the front of the shop. We will push it into the shop by hand and pull the 216.5 out and drop the 235 in. Then we will roll it out of the shop, stick a hose in the radiator, connect Big Blue's aux battery to the starter and ignition, and crank it over. Oh, and drop a hose from the fuel pump into a 5 gallon can. Which reminds me, maybe I should buy new radiator hoses for it.
  5. As for what I did to my truck today, I drove Big Blue and suddenly realized that the voltmeter, the one that Rocketman converted from an ammeter, was working! I originally thought that I'd not gotten the connector fully clicked into the back of the cluster, but then I realized that what I'd done was to let the needle touch the bottom peg while the paint I'd just put on the needle was wet. It was stuck. And with my grandtwins coming in a week I didn't want to tear the dash apart, so I drove it hoping that the needle would break loose. And it did! Also, I noticed that the new LRC regulator is working properly. It used to be that the alternator belt chirped on startup but it doesn't now. Plus I can watch the voltmeter and see the voltage start climbing a couple of seconds after the startup. The meter is set for 12.8v to be in the center and 14.4v to be the top of the scale. After the start the needle is right on the center mark and a couple of seconds later it smoothly goes up to the top mark when the engine is cold. And after the engine gets up to temp the regulator starts cutting the voltage back until it gets to 13.6.

Your handle should still work and maybe even your password. Vivek - We don't know that everything won't work. When the time comes I'll need all the help I can get testing it out.

  10. Man, that is a hard read! My mind doesn't like to think through how it thinks or if it is really conscious or unconscious. I struggle to get my head around how a modern computer works, even though I've built rudimentary ones. But to extrapolate to one that can be aware of its past and use that to influence the present and the future is way beyond me. But the smart people out there will be able to understand that and, eventually I think there will be computers that are conscious. As for now: “Our analysis suggests that no current AI systems are conscious but also suggests that there are no obvious technical barriers to building AI systems which satisfy these indicators.”

  14. Good question, Jim. The way I THINK I have it set up at present on Invision is that a newbie can only post in NMSH. But as soon as s/he posts one time they are automagically promoted and can post elsewhere. (The # of posts to get promoted is adjustable.) However I think that everything we've set up now gets blown away when they create the new forum, so we will have to adjust it - and I do have it all recorded. And the joining process is automagic as well. We can have them agree to the guidelines before joining. But moderators don't have to admit people. Speaking of moderators, we will have admins and moderators. The admins can change serious things and the moderators make sure people are playing nice. Chris and I'll probably be the admins with current admins being moderators. Yes?
  15. If you had a membership under a different name does that mean you've read the guidelines? If not, please go the New Members Start Here folder and read them. We ask that you know what the guidelines are as we will hold you to them. As for the transmission, if the truck has a 351W it shouldn't have the AOD as they didn't put it behind that engine in a truck. So if it is an auto it should be the C6.
  16. The Invision folks have started writing the code to migrate us from Nabble to their platform. They anticipate having the first pass up for us to test in about a week. We will then have 7 days to test it and point out what issues we can find. They will then revise their code to fix the problems. Once they are done we will set a time and day to cut over. At that point we will turn off access to the forum on Nabble, take a backup, run that through the converter, and put the forum up on Invision in “production”. I will put the Nabble version up on a page on the website that only a few of us can access just in case we need something, but we won’t be able to post in it. And then, once we know we have everything we will delete the Nabble version to free up space on their servers.
  17. They know the process and have done it many times. They just have to find each element and map it to the right place. I’m starting another thread to provide more info on timing and the plan.

  19. I can get 12 MPG, but not on cruise. I have to feed it "by foot" and do it gingerly to get 12. On cruise it'll turn in 11+ consistently if I drive 65 - 67 MPH and if the wind isn't hitting us head-on.

  21. As of today Invision has the file from Sunday's backup of our Nabble forum. They will use that to develop the code to migrate us and when they think they have it right they'll put it up on our Invision forum, replacing what is there at the moment. Then they'll invite us to check it out and point out any problems with it, which they'll then work to correct. When they have that sorted we will lock this forum so there can't be any input and take a backup, which they'll run through the migration code and voilà we'll have our old forum in a new environment. They don't know how long this will take as they've not migrated anyone from Nabble before. But they've migrated from other platforms so know how to do it.
  22. Glad you clarified. I took "PTO" to be turning on the PTO function in EEC-V to up the idle RPM - which doesn't work on mine. (But the hand throttle does.) Anyway, a PTO-driven compressor would be nice. Not sure how big of one would fit beside a ZF5, but it would sure make it simple. However, it won't brew your coffee or charge your AC-powered devices like the inverter does. Yes, there are 12v chargers for a lot of things, but my walkie talkies, headlamps, & flashlights didn't come with them. Instead they came with 110V chargers, which I've plugged into the inverter. So any time the engine is running those things are getting charged. And yes, the inverter yells at me that the battery voltage is getting low from time to time, but it still goes on creating 110V AC and the compressor still runs. So it isn't getting too low, and that's not the starting battery, so there's no problem.
  23. Jim & Bob are right. It takes a LOT of 12V current to run my compressor, but it does a fantastic job to air up tires. Probably 10x faster than most 12V compressors - which makes sense as it uses 10x the current. I don't even think about running it w/o the engine running, and even then unless I use the hand throttle and bring the engine up to ~1000 RPM it won't keep the battery charged.
