Yeah, that might be a bit rich. Check that the choke is coming off. As for lists, I have a pretty intensive one for EFI'ing Big Blue. And a reason for that is that there are some things that need to be done after another but before yet another. For instance, the fuel system needs to be done with the tranny, t-case, driveshafts, et al out. So I am thinking through the order of things. It is really like a chess game. What rear diff do you have? And, where's it leaking? Pinion seal?

Doing a lot of cleaning and putting away in the shop in an effort to get back on Dad's truck. But, as I find things I sometimes work on them a bit so they are closer to being ready to go when the time comes to EFI, which I think will be immediately after the show. One of those things that I worked on today was the thermostat housing. As said, Huck's was pitted and the one on Big Blue isn't to my taste, so I worked most of the pits out with a file and sandpaper. It isn't perfect, but it is plenty good enough. And, while working on the mating surface I realized that there were some really sharp edges inside that would disrupt the coolant flow, so I used the Dremel to smooth them out. And, while the Dremel was out, I cleaned up the parting lines outside. Then, when the mating surface was good enough I put it away in a baggie in a tote - ready to be powder coated when the time comes. Then I realized that the radiator support needs to be ready when the time comes, and it certainly isn't. If you don't remember, the "mechanics" that Vernon found in Florida hacked the core support up when they installed the engine oil cooler. It is just amazing that they did it the way they did it, but did it they did, so I have to replace the core support. Fortunately Jonathan brought me one last Sept, and the only minor problem it has is a few small cracks. I plan to weld up the cracks this week, and then take it up to John, my paint/body man, who will have it media blasted and then will paint it a satin black. Now if I could get Core Tuning to call me so I can buy their package I'd just about be ready to DO IT!

Yep, 12k winches win! The '60 Chevy pickup I pulled from a field had the right rear skid all the way onto the trailer. We just kept placing boards in front of it going up the ramp, but let it slide on the steel deck of the trailer. But the winch didn't care. So, some people think they can drive a $200 truck home? Amazing. Anyway, it looks like the field of dreams up there. You should be able to put together several Frankentrucks.

Yes, even if they don't have a kit for something they probably have the individual fasteners. Cool!

I was wondering about a lockout as well, but I'm thinking electrical is easier. Just put a relay in the circuit from the t-case.

Shades of an 8-page microanalysis! No, this doesn't belong buried in a build thread. It needs to be a stand-alone topic, like this one. So, let's get started..... First, I get lost in all the gearing issues, numbers, etc. So, if you'll provide me with the gear ratios I'd like to create a spreadsheet to help me/us get our heads around the possibilities. And, that will let me compare the 2nd gear ratios with those of Big Blue, which has a fairly easy start in 2nd when running light and the 460 may have comparable torque at really low R's to the diesel. Second, I don't like any of the combinations that would let you destroy things by placing it in 4lo. I don't want to build things that are easily destroyed, and that looks like a prime candidate for destruction. So I guess that w/o info on the gearing I'm knocking on Door #4. NP205's are said to be STOUT, albeit heavy. So that seems like the best option to make everything live w/the power you are planning for that engine to produce. But, that begs the question of gearing, so we've come back around the bush.....

I think it has something to do with the law of Supply And Demand. There's very little supply and quite a bit of demand. Someday our beloved Bullnose trucks may be so blessed.

To me, while this forum is small and you don't get a lot of different people helping - unlike some other forums, having it coupled with a resource like the website more than makes up for the size.

I have this pair of OMC King Cobra valve covers for a carb'd 460 that I paid $125 for - I think. Really nice cast aluminum in great shape. But, I'm going EFI and that takes a completely different valve cover. So I'll be selling these - via Craigslist, ebay, this site, and/or the swap meet this fall. (I'm leaning to saving them for the swap meet just to have a good array of stuff there.) They'll clean up very nicely. However, I'm going to be powder coating with black wrinkle/crinkle soon, and it wouldn't take much to coat these as well and then sand the ribs back to aluminum. So, what say ye? Leave them the way they are or PC them? That'll require that I pull the labels as they won't stand up to the oven, but it won't be hard. Thoughts?

There's only one blue shown for '82 and another one for '85. So, you can find the SEM paint in Specifications/Body Codes/Interior Paint. But, as it says there, those colors have to be mixed at a store selling SEM, or by SEM itself and shipped to you.

Yes, those trim pieces. My truck came with a couple of them in a box. Wasn't sure if they were standard equipment or optional accessories. I think the truck could be ordered with them as I believe they show in the dealer's fact book, although I'll check later. However, I think accessories like that got shipped with the truck and installed by the dealer. So, it wouldn't surprise me if yours have never been installed.
