  1. While restoring Big Bro, I chose to keep the vintage original radio. I sent it to a specialized shop that took out its guts and replaced them with modern electronic components. The radio came back with: • USB plug for external source and charging capability • Bluetooth • Microphone, phone hands free • And RCA plug for subwoofer. Yesterday I finally installed a subwoofer under Big Brother's front seat. Man, good beat, windows down and cranked volume, I suddenly felt as I was sixteen years old again!
  2. Maybe generally Jim, but certainly not always. As proof of that, you're still here with us, generously sharing your time and knowledge with us. If it's not humanity affairs, don't know what it is. 😉
  3. I'll send Bob a message. But anyway, we have an easy plan that could be included in the "plug and play 3G harness instructions". «If your Voltmeter arrives reversed, simply swap the R/O and Y/LtG terminals in the cluster connector».
  4. LOL! Funny. Strange. And completely useless!
  5. Can't say about Flairside, but Big Brother's original color (Styleside) was Desert Tan, no stripes. And the tailgate was originally one color, no accent for lettering (all Desert Tan).
  6. To stand entirely on the front, Big Bro will have to be printed at very small scale. Or, it could begin on the back and end on the front of the T-Shirt...
  7. DONE! These terminals are very easy to get out and swap, it took 2 seconds each. And yes, it works! Gentlemen, the 1G-3G swap is a SUCCESS!This 3G "Plug and Play" harness is just W-O-N-D-E-R-F-U-L !!!:nabble_anim_claps:Tomorrow, I'll take some time to organise the pictures I took and write a step-by-step storybook.I'm really happy to have been your guinea pig.

  9. Gary, 3G in place. Starting test. Big Bro starts, no squealing. Seems a success BUT... the voltmeter goes wrong side. I'll have to reverse two wires in the 3G harness. I suppose the ground Y/LG and the Y/W ? Maybe the Voltmeter studs were reversed... EDIT: Or, maybe just swap these two wires in the cluster connector?
  10. I'm taking a lot of pictures, so I'll be able to document a clear step-by-step (later). But for now, I need your advice. This morning, I took out the 1G without issue. I still have to prepare the 3G with tapping the tensioner bolt hole, and swap the pulleys. Before going further, I've put the 3G in place, just to verify the fitment. And I realize that I'll hit a wall with the pulley. This is a picture with the 3G in place. Fits very well: BUT, in order to verify the belt/pulleys alignement, I placed the V-Belt around the 3G serpentine pulley. I goes all around, well centered... But the 3G is already at its maximum tensioner position. So if I install the 1G pulley on the 3G, I won't be able to tension the belt, it will stay lose. Here is a picture comparing the 1G and 3G pulleys diameter: Question: Can I simply install a new shorter V-Belt? If so, how much shorter than the current one? The current one is 39-3/8" length.
  11. Gary, I'm reading at our previous discussions. Just wanna be sure, this is the latest wiring diagram version? Thanks!
  12. Lol, yeah I have to think twice each time I name them. And sometimes to look at the diagram --
  13. Okay, ready to proceed to 3G swap! I restored the C-610 connector, everything works, so now I can go on with the 1G/3G replacement. Don't be surprised if it takes some time... We have family visitors at the chalet, and the process will be frequently paused. And don't be surprised too if I have couple of questions during the operation. I'll take a lot of pictures and will document each step, hoping this will be useful for other members. Stay tuned!
  14. Jim, I did not cut out this connector... I'm Big Bro's third owner (first an outfitter, second my wife's father). I own Big Bro for about 20 years, they had plenty of time to do it before I came. In Salt Kingdom, this C-610 connector is exposed to accelerated ageing and corrosion. I supposed they found easier to cut it out and spline the wires. Thanks Jim to have reminded me to the EVTM! It's a shame that I went to more complicated diagrams without thinking to look at it! Gentlemen, Starting test made, everything works! C-610 back at its place (male AND female), all connections properly made. So, this thread is closed, let's go back to Big Brother is going 3G thread!

  16. Haha! No problem Gary! I know y'all are so excited about my "plug'n play 3G swap" that any post I make is considered as a step in that direction. But no, not right now guys. Be patient one more day: 1- Yesterday, I reinstalled the C-610 connector in Big Bro, since the original was butchered in the past. And I need the "male" side properly installed in the truck in order to plug the futur 3G harness. 2- It's raining A LOT here today, no garage at our chalet, so I have to wait until tomorrow (maybe this afternoon?) to step in the 3G swap project itself. For now, the goal of this specific thread is not about the 3G project, it is only focussed on the C-610 connector restoration. Proceeding to this reconstruction, I was wondering about the "female" side of that connector (the 1G alternator side). I have absolutely no question about the "male" side (the truck side), all clear for me. And the more I read, the more I realize that I correctly understood the "female" harness wiring, yep there are 4 wires splined at S-202, including the Big Yellow one. I admit I should have started with the EVTM diagram... The other sources are correct but much more difficult to follow. Here below, I colored separately the "male" and "female" sides of the famous C-610 connector. I'm confident that I restored the wiring correctly, these EVTM diagrams are matching with the other ones I previously look at. The female side of C-620: And the male side of C-610: If nobody has objection, at soon as the rain slows down I'll reconnect the battery and try a start. For the 3G swap itself, I'll return to the «Big Brother is going 3G» original thread.
  17. You're right, all the "female" side of the C610 will go out with the 1G itself and its external regulator. But the job I did today to reconnect the «male» part of the C610 won't be lost, it stays in the truck and it will plug into the 3G harness you sent me. I know I am losing my time trying to rebuild the 1G harness (female side of the C610). But I am on vacations and I have all my time.
  18. Sorry Gary, I made you confused. I will do the 3G job next days. But since I first had to reinstall a C610 connector, I was looking to restore the 1G female side too. Before taking the «1G alt+ 1G regulator + 1G harness» kit out of the engine compartment. Just for fun...
  19. Gary, just because this is the 3G wiring diagram. And I suppose that it is different than the 1G wiring. I am wrong?
  20. Sorry guys, I wasn’t clear. I am focusing on the 1G pigtail, for now. 3G will be another subject. I am confused about what wires are spliced together by S-202. This is what the wiring diagram shows: And this is how I understand it (custom numbers are the same than in the previous harness picture):
  21. Hi Bullnose aficionados! As some of you already know, Big Brother’s C-610 connector was cancelled somewhere in the past. Before going to swap it's 1G to a 3G alternator, I want to rehabilitate this connector. Thanks to Gary, I've got a male side in good shape, and I was able to grab a female side at my local salvage yard. For the male side, no problem, I identified the wires to reconnect. But I need your help for the female side (I know, I don't have to anyway to rebuild the 1G pigtail if I go right to the 3G swap, but I would prefer to do so). Here's a picture of the C-610 male and female connectors. To facilitate the discussion, I've numbered the wires. There’s also a partial screenshot of the wiring diagram. My question: Accordingly to the wiring diagram (Splice S-202), I have to splice wires #7, #10 and #12 together, with the alternator Black/Orange wire? They all go to the Starter Relay through the black Fusible Link #13? Just as info, here is Big Bro's current wiring situation:
  22. There's a well known guy here who's pleased to tag every work as «Progress!». So I'll let him call the shot. It's a chance you didn't choose to name Oswald «Mickey».
  23. I love this kind of pre-computerized engineering. Looks to me as some beautiful artworks. Like some old precision watchmaking, descendants of the Antikythera mechanism. Pressure, speed, vacuum, friction, temperature, synchronization... Mechanical engineering at its best.
  24. HEART ATTACK! 💔 I'am preparing to reinstall the C610 connector, and beginning to examine the various wires there... During a second or two, my heart ceased to beat: The exhaust manifold was splitting!!! «Ok Jeff, don't panic, take a closer look and see what's going on. Why didn't you hear Big Bro raging as a sports car ?!?» I told to myself. Hahahaha! I'm stupid! This is just the heatsink! ❤️‍🩹
