The bypass is pretty high.
I would probably drain a gallon if it hadn't already ruptured and spewed at least that much throughout the engine bay.

Not sure if I confused you with another member.
I'm sorry, and will try to remember to scroll down to look at sigs when replying.

alright, well I was able to return the Lares 204 part and exchange it for a Dorman 31008 which is for a 1987 F250.  It looks very similar in shape to what is on my 85, with the exception of the pinch bolt being 180 degrees out from what I have now in order for the keys to be in the same position.

It also looks like the pinch bolt doesn't slip into the groove on the input shaft of the steering box.  I'm going to grind off the rivets on mine and use this since it's close enough for me.

Here's some pictures of the new rag joint.  I'll post more once I have it installed on the steering shaft.

didn't take long to grind off the rivets and install the new coupler.  Going to try and get the box back in the truck tonight.

I have tomorrow and Friday off so I can work on it all weekend if needed as well.

Looks good, Chris.  And I like the Nyloc nuts plus lock washers.  Good safety measures.

I'll snap some pictures tomorrow, but I got the new box installed and all the lines hooked up. Tomorrow I'm going to fill and purge the air out of the system and check for leaks.

By far the worst part of this install was getting the power steering lines to thread into the new box.

Yes, the lines have to be in exactly the right spot or the fittings won't thread in, and you sure don't want to cross-thread them.

Anyway, congrat's!

Here's the pictures of the new box.

I also tracked down the whistling noise I was hearing. Turns out the hose the PO used for the pcv valve was collapsing on itself.

I was also able to tighten the clamps on the bypass hose and at first glance it looks like the leak stopped. I'll know better once I drive it again.

Looks good, Chris.  And finding that hose problem was a bonus.

Good work Chris!
I'm glad you didn't need to replace the bypass hose.

Need to do some carb tuning for sure. I calculated my mpg from the first tank.

7.92 MPG

I know the carb is super rich when the choke is on. It bottoms out my AFR at 10.0:1

Light throttle cruise is ~13:1 mid throttle before secondaries is ~15:1

Heavy throttle is ~12:1 and Wot bottoms out the AFR at 10:1

I have to open up the carb to check jetting and metering.

Have you looked into the PCV hose there on the valve cover? Looks like it's collapsing while the engine is running. I'm just going off of the picture, but it looks a little flattened out by the PCV Valve.

I replaced that with some 3/8" fuel line. The collapsing hose was the cause of the whistling drone sound I was hearing.

If you are getting 8 mpg on the road then you are rich.

But your "light cruise" numbers don't look too bad.  I was seeing 13.5 to 15 before the metering rods popped up on Big Blue before I put the EFI on.  Ideally I'd have liked it to be 14 - 15.5 but it wasn't worth it to change out both jets and rods for that little bit.

But the "heavy throttle" seems rich, as is the WOT.  So once you sort those then maybe your "light cruise" will come into range.

I'm still reading up on adjusting the AVS2 1906 that I have.  I think I need to set it to baseline.  I suspect that it was installed when the truck still had the leaking vacuum booster and they had to fatten it up to compensate for the massive vacuum leak that caused.

My plan is:
1. Check timing and adjust if necessary.  I was going to try 12 deg unless someone has a better setting I should try?
2. Open carb and make note of jets, springs, and rods.
3. Count idle mixture screw turns.
4. Adjust for highest vacuum.
5. Compare with settings table from Edlebrock and adjust as necessary.

I will be ordering a calibration kit since the PO didn't include any parts for the carb.

I think you have a good plan.  Go to baseline and then adjust from there.

And 12 degrees BTDC is a good starting place, with "starting" being the operative word.  If it starts w/o kicking back then go with it.  If not you may have to back off to 10.  But if it does kick back check to see that the retard feature in the DS-II module is winning.

Re: 1985F20 SuperCab "REDRUM"

Calibration kit should be here Saturday.

I let leaned out the choke to one notch before index, it started fine, but afers were kissing 10:1 and were not above 11:1 for a few minutes. I'm going to try one more notch leaner, but I have to let it get cold again.

I checked base timing with the vacuum advance disconnected after it was warmed up. It was set to 6deg.  I bumped it up to 12 and restarted it. No kickback that I could tell.

With 12deg it was idling much smoother and I gained an inch of vacuum.

On the carb, the mixture screws are only ~3/4 turn out.  I adjusted them slightly along with the curb idle to bring the idle up to about 700, PO had it at 550, I'm assuming they just didn't change it from the setting for when it was still an auto.

With the screws being ~1 turn out it is for sure you don't have any vacuum leaks.    Normally I'd expect them to be 1 1/2 to 2 turns out.  But if it works it works.

Good luck with the rejetting.  That's always an interesting procedure.  On paper it looks simple, but frequently takes a second or third pass.

Truck seems to be running fine at 12 degrees advanced right now.

Calibration kit came in, but I haven't ventured down that rabbit hole yet. Decided to calibrate the backup camera first.

I wasn't sure if I should post this here or make a separate post about it, so I'll try here first and fix it later if needed.

I took the F250 on it's first long trip over the holidays.  ~500 miles round trip from Marysville WA, to Sooke BC and back.  First time visiting the family since the pandemic started.

An addition to this trip was to pick up my 1968 Dodge Dart that had been parked at my moms house since 2013.

The F250 did great!  I haven't tuned the carb yet so I managed ~7MPG on the way there with the empty trailer, and surprisingly it did better on the way back, ~8MPG loaded with the Dart.

It started every time, first time.  Now that I am back I have noticed a small oil leak and that transfer case seal I just replaced is leaking so I'm wondering if there's a groove on the yoke or something else going on.

Anyways, here's a few pictures.
