  1. The only reason I know of would be so that if on High beams and meeting someone you don't have to fiddle with both hitting the foot dimmer and finding the rocker. My driving lights are standalone and it's a real pain trying to do both at the same time. Future project to fix that.
  2. Thanks Gary. That's the direction I was leaning - I wonder what Ford's intention was since I don't believe the truck backup circuit gauge is very heavy and I wouldn't feel comfortable using it even with leds.
  3. You're back to my preferred location so I'll give them a thumbs up Really, just like the light bar, while not something I'd put on a Bullnose pickup* - as long as it can easily be changed in the future and you aren't stuck with a specific style (like recessed in the front of the bumper), it gets my vote. The shape, color, cover, etc are all up to your taste and intended usage. *I'd have no problem putting one on the headache rack of the 80 c&c
  4. What is the standard practice or your thoughts here? The factory Trailer Option has the trailer backup lamps spliced directly into the truck backup circuit. Just like the stop and turn signals. Alternatively the trailer running lights are on a relay and the hot 12v circuit is a dedicated fusible link. I've never had a trailer with backup lamps but am adding them (really flood lamps) during my 22ft equipment trailer rewire. Via a quick google search it sounds like newer truck have a backup lamp relay. I can either add a relay to the truck and rewire my 7 pin on the truck or I can add a relay to the trailer that would use the hot 12v circuit in the 7 pin (same as breakaway battery) with the factory backup lamp wire as the trigger. Some pros and cons to both but want to hear from you guys before I settle on one.
  5. Looks like that would work well. Fits BB's look and if you ever needed to change it, you could easily. That one doesn't allow vertical rotation, does it? That would be my only want although you may never need it.
  6. David - I like that mount. Will file that one away. Just more of my opinion- I like driving lights over fog lights. Similar region of the country as Gary and on the occasions I drive in fog, the low beams work well enough. Definitely pros and cons to all mounting locations. A mix of looks, protection (for the light), and optimal light output/spread. If there isn't one location that satisfies all of those for you then it's a matter of priority. Janey is spot on - it's yours so if that is your ideal location, then it's the right one. For me, sure I wouldn't cut the bumper but as I said above, a lot of that is taste. I like the 80's look with the lights mounted above the bumper. A couple other reasons I wouldn't cut it is that you are a kind of stuck with the light shape you choose initially. Sure you could go bigger and recut but then you can't easily go smaller. Not saying anything is impossible but it's a lot different than just a mounting bolt and nut. The second being that you can't change the beam direction in a pinch. If you have have them bolted on top and in an emergency needed to focus the beam off the the side you can just grab them and twist. The box is looking and working great!
  7. Check out PIAA also https://www.piaa.com/store/car-truck-lights.aspx
  8. I didn't elaborate as I like the right arrow but for the square holes I was picturing a dressed up piece of angle iron bolted to them and then the lights bolt to the angle iron. This way there would still be side to side adjustment. You're right - directly mounted in the square holes would look goofy with the spacing being different.
  9. Not quite like yours Shaun but if there weren't already holes in the face of Gary's I was think along those lines with one of these I prefer the further apart spacing of yours (and the holes on Gary's) better though.
  10. The controller almost looks like it sits horizontally on the floor/shelf behind the seat? Where the heads of the rear cab mount bolts are. Cable goes down the passenger side. I wonder is it set up for full open or closed, or adjustable anywhere in between? You're right - that would make sense it laying along the rise.
  11. If the arrow on the right is the capped one, my first preference would be to drill a matching one and use that. Would allow all direction adjustments. I know this is entirely personal but I wouldn't drill a hole in the warn with the exception of matching one up symmetrically. Second choice would be mounting in the square hole with the left arrow on the face of the bumper. This would look a little odd aesthetically but again I am putting priority on not cutting the bumper.
  12. Is that a hole on the top of the bumper to the right (per photo) of the winch?
  13. Oh ya, be great in a Super or Crew cab...not so easy to open when driving. For sure. Really like having the slider, and the kids like it even more, but if going from driving in town to getting out on the highway it would be nice to not have to pull over before I get leaves/crud coming in. PS950S but not seeing installation instructions or what all it comes with new.
  14. I've wished a few times that I had one on the super Where is the motor mounted? Cab corner?
  15. Very well done! A couple years ago I shipped a diesel one to a guy in PA. He said he'd looked everywhere locally and couldn't find a solid one so was willing to pay freight which wasn't cheap. I like your solution.
  16. Then you've also got the "In reply to this post..." text that shows up. Someone correct me if wrong as I've never really paid real close attention but I think it shows up if you click Reply on any post that is not the most recent one.
  17. I don't know what I was thinking with that 12v paralleled question. I can't even recreate the thought process that led me to it Time to call it a night. I like the idea of having that switch on constant 12v. That's how I have mine and I like being able to walk by the truck and seeing if it's lit up or not.
  18. The jy is relaxing so trust me, I am always happy to go. If I wasn't on call tomorrow, I'd likely spend the morning there. Sounds good and if you're happy with that one, I am happy. This was all perfect timing. I've been thinking about how to hook up the GVOD in Chanute and as it doesn't have power windows, I am going to steal your idea. So whichever one I end up with, I'll be cutting it as well. Good to know the bulging around the edges of the horn pad isn't a big deal. Now back to the switches
  19. My lower vs upper preference is conditional. I like the idea of just the bars lit up when the ignition is on but the problem with that is that it doesn't help identify the buttons at night. But that is based upon my initial stated preference of a single color. If going with all/mostly different colors, I would do the Lower Independent as Gary will quickly associate the colors to the function and won't need to read the words or see the icon. Thinking about it - even with a single color, it might not take long to memorize positions... Lot of personal preferences come into play with something like this.
