  1. Yes, welcome! Let's get a photo of this thing The use of 'bull' strikes me as very interesting if it was put on in 83. Color me intrigued.
  2. Well worth it Are you talking about the tear drop shaped shim(s)?
  3. Nailed it Jim. I was thinking the ears looked a little compact but didn't give it much thought and just grabbed the grinder (was one of those days when the first thought is just a bigger hammer). Pretty sure I mentioned the long ears version when on the phone but the model number is definitely the short one. Figures Will no doubt be looking at the LRC if the slipping occurs frequently but maybe some of John's luck will rub off. Gary - I think you meant to say 'insanity' but I'll take you up on that offer because of, well, insanity.
  4. Let us know what happens and if they solve the problem Time for some updates on the 86. I'll start by saying we are in the proverbial "fool me twice" territory now. Instead of ditching the Powermaster, I now own two I believe last I posted the Ford Upgrade 1 wire was in the local shop. Powermaster wouldn't sell the builder the parts so I picked it up and forked out the money to return it to PM. Few days later PM called and the unit really wasn't worth rebuilding back to original specs (apparently it has older gen internals). They gave me the options of building it to lesser specs, a discount on a newer Ford Upgrade 1 wire with better specs, and/or a discount on a 3G. I'd talked myself into the 3G already but also went with the discount on the newer Ford Upgrade 1 wire to be used in the 80 or another project. And since I didn't check to see if I had something written on my forehead, I went with the 1 wire 3G Joking aside, no regrets..so far. The 3G did require some grinding on the L&L bracket so it would have full range of motion. Not really needed once stretched out but it would have been a bit of a pain getting the belt on initially. Have only driven it a couple of times but so far so good. The initial startup did give me a squeal so will monitor that. It was a known risk with the higher amp output potential and a single v belt. Specs on this unit: Since Gary brought it up in another thread, I am toying with the electric fan idea. Did some quick temp wiring for one fan (has two) and the 12" 80W fan hits 14.5A at start and then settles at 8A. I don't know how accurate the ebay specs are for the fan but it seems to move a lot of air. I thought about trying to use the relays in the ssVEC but instead opted for the Davies Craig 0445 controller. It's a pretty simple self-contained unit but is temp configurable, has a delayed second fan start, and can be A/C triggered. Waiting for that to come in now.
  5. I think we've discussed this before but can we remove the grey banner and the two search boxes in the top left?
  6. Hmmm, we have a 10" tablet that has it's own plan. That would be a thought. And our phones. I'm really not part of this discussion - maybe I should just OBSERVE... Nah Speaking for GSM as it's his thread but I think any ideas are helpful to have here. Before you mentioned something like that I didn't know it existed and if keeping a stock interior, I really like the idea.
  7. I agree Dave. I don't see the black being a viable option.
  8. If ok with the touchscreen being your phone: Black Box Radio
  9. I wonder how much tilt it would need since the bezel juts out at the top and if it'd still be easily visible. And one that tilts down (if exists) would block the hvac. I like that idea though for getting a full screen with a single din.
  10. Hey Alex, I am 99% sure I used Dorman 703237 (75451) from RockAuto which are the same as what is used on the door latching mechanism. These are the same that you should be able to get locally (O'Reillys, AutoZone, etc) which may be what you already have? Do you know if your handle is factory or aftermarket? I just shipped my only easily accessible factory handle to another member or I'd happy test the 703237. Even with the rod in there they still can be pulled out of the handle?
  11. My 460/C6 has both the factory aux tranny cooler (includes routing through the radiator) as well as the factory aux oil cooler. I mention that only to say that the aux oil cooler lines are a lot bigger than the tranny lines so not sure how that would impact it.
  12. Thanks all. There are steps/photos in the Camano thread (sig) if interested in how I went about it. It was a tough decision between the factory 2 knob and this since it's hard to beat the factory look. The nice thing is that no matter what one goes with, nothing is permanent. The truck came with an Alpine 7803S (being an 86 with the Burlwood single din) and that fit well with the 80's look. Tons of choices (new and used) out there depending upon the looks and feature set one wants.
  13. Curiosity got the better of me last night. Smallest distance between the pulley and fans that I found was 3.5". Tons of room in there now. That shroud looks good. It appears the flange on the bottom will fit into the two hook clips the factory shroud fits in which is nice. My shroud has two ears vs the flange so I have to try and get a bolt in from the front which may be a pain.
  14. Atoto S8 Pro (android). Lots of reasons but ultimately I wanted something 'smart' with the ability to run Torque if I ever get sensors setup for it. Not plug and play physically - especially in an a/c truck.
  15. Never actually tested it in place but rough measurements put the thickness from the font face of the shroud to the back of the fan at 3.25" From the rear face of the radiator shroud mounts to the pulley is (roughly) 6" So the thickness of the fan at it's highest is still less than the max thickness of the factory 460 shroud. Happy to get other details if needed. If really serious about it, I can pull the fan and install it.
  16. Getting continuity on the speaker wires from the speaker to the head unit connector? How much, if any, of the speaker wiring is factory vs aftermarket?
  17. I have a no-name Champion 3 row imitation off ebay and no complaints at all. Since Champion gets theirs from overseas now, I decided to gamble on the difference being a sticker. Can't say either way but the radiator performs as expected and came with 2 fans and a shroud.
  18. Welcome! That's a really nice looking truck from just that photo. I've never seen the numbers but I came across a few 2F trucks around the states when I was searching a few years ago (I have a 2FD and I am in Missouri). Can't say that I've seen that paint combo either. Two tone blues I recall are either a greyish blue or a light blue.
  19. Subscribed. Been meaning to get something ever since that demo so looking forward to seeing what you go with.
  20. My first thought when just reading "bucket of bolts" + acceleration is pinging.
