  1. Well, it looks like I'm wrong. I'm finding that on cars the 5.0L got MAF in '88 in CA, and in '89 elsewhere. But the key is to look to see what you have. Is there a MAF sensor just after the air cleaner?
  2. You already posted that in a separate section, although it is just a link to an external site. Documentation/Electrical/Wiring Connectors Thanks, Shaun. I was thinking I had, but didn't find it. Obviously didn't look long enough. I'll clean that up. Any suggestions? I like having the document on the site as that ensures it won't go away. But the info on the pins is good and needs to be retained.
  3. So many questions. But, the EFI system is almost for sure the EEC-IV system, which is speed density. IOW, the computer thinks it knows how much air was just ingested because it knows the RPM and throttle opening. But if you change out the intake, the exhaust, or the cam it won't know. So, to answer the question about "garbage", the answer is no. It works just fine on a stock setup. But it won't tolerate much modification. And it isn't "easily" tuned. It takes an outboard chip to tune it, but those are available. Bill's the best one to ask about this. The AOD can in 4x4 trucks, so they are available. And they can be built to be fairly strong. But they were not strong stock.
  4. That's such a good feeling! (Or, at least I think it should be - when I get there. ) Anyway, congrat's! And she sure is cute. And happy.
  5. Dean - I do wish you luck. For sure. But, this is the Picture Gallery folder and you didn't post a pic. Help up out and show us some pics? And tell us what happened?
  6. So, a Crown Vic swap? Under what? And a 5.0L FI? Into what?
  7. It has been a nightmare that seems, looking back, to have stemmed from the electrical searching for ground, having poor grounds and overheated grounds caused alot of issues in different systems.once I got the grounds fixed next was all the individual issues causef by poor ground and believe that the ecm went with or along with everything else. But today I was able to prove the issue for the first time an seen the results and they are good!😁I think I see a light at the end of the tunnel! Excellent! When/if you decide it is time for a new ECM, let's find the right part number. And the easiest way to do that is if you have a sticker, usually on the passenger's side valve cover, that gives the calibration code. If not, we can usually figure it out. And, if you are pulling the ECM it should have info on it that will help. But, it is likely that several different ECM's were used.
  8. Jim - Congrat's! Obviously you have a bit more to do but, to borrow someone's phrase, progress is good! Greg - More layers peeled on the onion! You are getting and it'll run great, soon.
  9. Interesting question. I learned something tonight. This is from the 1986 pricing guide. Note that the price is double that of the option for a 4.9 or 5.0L.
  10. No problem, assuming you've read the guidelines. Ratdude gave you some good suggestions, but on the turn signals it appears the turn signal switch is broken. And it is crucial to the operation of the whole lighting system since almost everything runs through it. So if it is bad you may not have brake light, much less turn signals. Here's a page on that from Ford's 1986 Electrical & Vacuum Troubleshooting Manual (EVTM), which is available here: Documentation/Electrical/EVTM/1986 EVTM.
  11. Welcome to the forum! Glad you joined. We have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we'd be happy to add you if we had a city/town/zip. On the pics, you can post them on here. The instructions are on the page at Bullnose Forum/Forum FAQ's. And, how about a signature? How to do that's also in the FAQ's, and it helps us give you good answers to your questions as we know what your truck is. In addition, you could put your name in there 'cause it is going to get old calling you Newusr.
  12. Shaun - You'll soon have a complete truck! Angelo - Looks like fun!
  13. I wish I knew the answer to your question. But at least you have the seal. Hopefully someone will come along that knows the answer.
  14. Vic - Sorry, I forgot to check today. But Siri will remind me at 10 tomorrow morning.
  15. Yes, the 1985 EFI system only has one O2 sensor. The one shown below:
  16. Today I added Ford's catalog for connectors and pigtails: Documentation/Electrical/Connectors.
  17. Yes, I'm finding that the minor diameter for 7/16-14 is less than the major diameter of 3/8-16, so that's not going to work. I guess I'll just use a stainless SHCS for that hole. As for the frame, you are right - if I have the header out I could put a lip on the frame. But I only have MAPP gas. Think it'll do it?
  18. Welcome to the forum. However, you were specifically asked to "Please go to the New Members Start Here folder, read the guidelines, and then start a new thread/topic in that folder about yourself and your truck." And until you do that you are not supposed to be posting in the main section. Why? Because our guidelines are on the New Members Start Here page. We cannot force you to read them, but by getting you to post in that folder we hope you will. Why is that important? Because people have been banned for not following the guidelines and we would not want that to happen to you. Gary
  19. Jim - Are you saying there's an insert that will convert 7/16-14 to 3/8-16"? I've not looked as I've been busy.... I pulled the driver's side header and put a G8 bolt in an exhaust port hole and lifted the engine just enough to slip two 5/16" pieces of scrap between the driver's side mount and the perch, which got me the clearance shown below. The clearance is 5/32" (.156"), although a 11/64" (.172") bit will fit in that notch and almost clear. I'm not too happy about that little bit of clearance, and while I have both 5/16" and 3/8" stock with which to make the spacer, I'm thinking the thing to do is to pull the header off and trim the frame a bit. I'm thinking trimming it like this. What'cha think? How much should I trim? How much clearance do I need? Is 1/4" enough?
  20. Just Facetimed with my 8 1/2 year old grandtwins and showed them the pic since they've ridden in Rusty. My grandson said "That's MY truck!" And I remember they weren't very happy when I sold him. We have a show here the third Saturday of every September, however I'm not sure it'll happen this year given the virus. But when we get the show going again I hope you'll consider bringing him up for it. Having said that, he got ~13 MPG at 65 MPH IIRC.
  21. And it still has the Oklahoma tag!
  22. That's Rusty, for sure! The radiator fan shroud is from Dad's truck, which is supposed to get a NOS one. That one's not perfect, but it is far better than the one that was on Rusty when I got him. The blue carpet came out of an '85 I parted out. The seat is one I bought from another member, and is WAY better than the one that came in him. And on and on. Yep, he's a red-headed step-child, but he's solid.
  23. I have assumed you've found his page: Documentation/Picture Gallery/Rusty. But, we can easily add to his story, including the sale and your acquisition of him, new pictures, what he's been doing in the interim, etc.
  24. Matt - I've had Ford's Wiring Pigtail Kits Identification Guide digitally for some time but just decided to put it on the side. Maybe you can find the connector in it. Hope so as I don't have another source. Please let me know what you find. Documentation/Electrical/Connectors
