  1. Time for an update. We have a backup of this forum up and running on the AWS servers. You can read about it in the thread called Test The New Forum Hosted On AWS Servers, and there's a link in the first post on that thread so you can go test it and play with it. But be aware that it is a TEST FORUM! Anything you post on there WILL be lost. There will be no attempt made to keep it. You should be able to log onto that forum with your existing ID and password. And I think you'll find that the AWS servers are much faster than the Nabble servers. However, there is one known problem - there is no way for that forum to send email notification of posts to those of us who are subscribed. But, Pedro knows what the issue is and how to fix it, so that shouldn't be a problem. Beyond that, we want to fix an issue that Franklin/Mr. Nabble created in the privileges aspect that has broken our joining process. And once that's done we want to turn on security so we have a green check mark in the browser's URL line. That apparently needs to be done before we migrate to the new servers. Then, at some point in the not too distant future we'll have to pick a time and lock down this forum, take a backup, and upload that backup to the AWS servers. Then we'll be in business there and the old forum on Nabble will initially stay locked and eventually go away when we have the needed confidence in the new forum.
  2. Yes, I'm guessing that you should have the same selector being discussed: E5TZ 9189-B. I think the key is the type of connectors you have. Do you have rubber line to the valve with hose clamps, or nylon line with quick-disconnect fittings? The -C valve has rubber hoses and the -B valve has quick disconnect fittings. The valve on the left has the fittings for rubber hoses, so is the -C, and the connection on the right is the type that a -B would have. (The quick-disconnect part is on the left end and the right end has barbs for the nylon line.)
  3. If I read his first post he wants to add a factory tach to an 86 truck (5.0) that has lights not gauges.I wonder if he wanted to keep the lights and his harness if he could add a tach to his cluster and run the wires off the studs of the tach gauge to where they need to go for it to work? Not even use a tach cluster board as his cluster would not work because of the different number of pins.Dave ----Dave - I'm pretty sure that an idiot light cluster has no place to put the tach. So in order to physically mount the tach he needs a gauge cluster. But, using your idea, he could use a tach cluster and hardwire the tach. But he would also have to re-pin the 14 wires from his current harness into an 18-pin connector. And since the 18-pin connector actually uses 16 pins, he would have to hardwire those two circuits. And he would have to make some other changes to go from idiot lights to gauges. The spreadsheet below maps the pins between the two connectors. As it shows he could hardwire the tach. But there are 4 other circuits he'll have to decide on. One pair is for the ammeter, and his underhood harness doesn't have a shunt so there's no way to run an ammeter. But he could go with a Rocketman volt meter in place of the ammeter and hardwire it. The other is the alternator warning light. That circuit is used to bootstrap the alternator so he will have to rig something to do that or the alternator won't work. But there are ways around that.
  4. Now that sounds more like PO wiring Well, we made it! 366 miles, the vast majority of it on bumpy 2-lane roads, some of which weren't much wider than the truck. LOT'S of stop and go, in some cases every single mile for 20+ miles. And while the truck did well, we are worn out! W/o A/C we had the windows down quite a bit and the noise and the drying wind was just exhausting. But we came home on the superslab at a true 70 MPH, and that was better. I'll post some pics tomorrow awa several observations. But for now, it is bed time!
  5. I saw a sketch once where a guy took a bad part in that had a lifetime warranty. They shot him. 😎
  6. Bummer! I'm not big on any of the AMC cars, but Gremlins were the worst. Seriously though, my experience has been that the sending units tend to be intermittent and quit sending at spots in their range. So my testing would start by grounding the sending unit wire near the tank and checking to see that the gauge goes to full scale. If so, that proves the wiring to that point and all you have left is the connection to the sending unit, the sending unit itself, and its ground.
  7. David - That is good to see. I think we are really going to like it. As for the email notification problem, Pedro explained that we need to set up an SMTP (Simple Message Transfer Protocol) server. And it looks to me like we have that ability via Amazon Webhosting Services, which is where the new forum is hosted. So I think we have a solution to that problem. Beyond that there are a few other things that we need to sort. For instance, Mr Nabble made a change that blew up our "joining process" and it would be good to put that back before moving on. In addition, we want to go "secure" so we have the green "check" by our URL and that may need to be set while we are still on the Nabble servers. But when we get these things sorted we will need to set a date and do the cutover. It will take an outage of the forum, although I don't think it will be long.
  8. I posted, no notification, I don't on here either. You'll only get notification on here, meaning the production forum, if you are signed up to do so. And you sign up by going to the level at which you want the email, clicking Option, and then the Email thing at the top. In my case I'm signed up to get an email for every post y'all make here on the production forum, as you can see on the left, below. But I'm also signed up the same way on the test forum, as you can see on the right. But, it isn't working, so I've asked Pedro for help.
  9. Thanks, Scott. But, that's not all PO wiring. When I got BB it blew a fuse for the radio when I was moving things around. After some investigation I found a bare wire that was sometimes touching that bracket. Zap! So I neatened things up a bit, used some heat shrink, etc. Oh yes, I forgot to tell y'all that the MeterMatch came in today. The USPS had been saying it wouldn't come in until tomorrow, so I went ahead and put the dash pad on and when the device came in I didn't have easy access to yellow/white wire going to the gauge. I'll have to pull the pad back off later to install the MM as I want to tap into that yellow/white wire and then stash the device under the dash pad. Also, the new Saginaw pump came in today, so I'll be installing it soon as well. Bit by bit I'm chipping away at the list.
  10. I was referring to the cutout, which I only found because I put my hand in there and was almost cut by the sharp edges. But, I hadn't seen the blue wire until you mentioned it. Well spotted! Now I have to take that apart again and fix that.
  11. What about the wipers? Have you checked the operation and condition of the blades? Light bulbs all the way around? Does the heater work? The wipers work fine, but some day soon I want to get the larger ones that Jim suggested. The lights all-round work fine, both outside and in. In fact, as of today the ash tray light now works - I put an LED in it after finding the bulb in it was shattered. Cleaned all the windows. Installed the rear view mirror. Set tire pressures. Installed the dash pad, such as it is. And vacuumed the carpet and mats. Plus, I installed the radio and clock awa the bezel over them. And while I was installing the radio I found more of handiwork: It is ready! (David - What do you see in the right side pic? )
  12. Did you click the box? If so, did you get an email notification? And, more importantly, have you heard from Jim in the last several days? He's AWOL.
  13. Matt - As said, I've not had good luck measuring the resistance of senders. I had several and one or more of them was for a later truck which uses a different resistance range. Never did find out which was which, so ordered new. Not sure the thread size, but I think it is 3/8" NPT. But when you checked with the sender in boiling water, did you have a ground and the hot lead connected? As for resistors, check the bottom of this page which specifies 10 ohm and 73 ohm resistors. But note that you may be pulling 500 ma. And at that kind of current you'll need pretty hefty resistors. The formula for wattage is W=I*I*R=.5*.5*10=2.5 watts.
  14. Thanks, Shaun. Try posting? Do you normally get email notification when you do?
  15. Great! Try a post and see if you get an email notification that you have? Or, do you normally on this forum?
  16. If you want you can test the forum over on the AWS servers. BUT BE WARNED THAT WE ARE NOT SAVING ANYTHING THAT IS POSTED THERE! The url is http://bullnose-enthusiasts.4.gabbleforum.org/ This is from a backup of the real forum as of Sunday afternoon Sept 20th. IOW, nothing from Sunday afternoon is on there. You should be able to log in using your existing name and password, and I'm not signing newbies up on there. THIS IS FOR TESTING ONLY! But I would be interested in your thoughts. First, I didn't get an email notification when I posted, so would like to know if you do. Also, check it out. Is everything seemingly there? How is the speed? Notice any glitches?
  17. Ok, here's the deal. Pedro has walked me through getting our backup from Sunday up on the Amazon Web Services servers. And it gave me a URL. But when I put that URL into a browser to go check it out I come back to here, meaning the production forum. So, when I thought I was posting this thread in the new "test" forum it was actually in the production forum. But, we are "this close" to having the backup running! Actually, we probably have the backup running but just keep getting redirected to here.
  18. Ahhh Gary, after you're done there, stretch ole Blue's legs a little bit and take a trip down 40 to the Big Texan and take on that steak too! I think we are going to stretch his legs - the other way. Probably take the Turner Turnpike home for a bit. Kendall's doesn't open until 4, so assuming we'll be there then we'll be out around 5 we may want to take a bit faster way home instead of Route 66.
  19. And then drive home for 3 hours? But I'll try, just for you, David. Steve/FoxFord33 is coming over today to work on his latest acquisition in the shop. And I hope to putter about on Big Blue doing the last of the things to make him as presentable as possible for tomorrow. Tire pressures, window washing, add the rearview mirror to the newly glued-on button, etc. Might even wash him.
  20. Not if the windows and hood seals are leaking like my F150. That truck sat for years and years before I bought it and it was in bad shape because of it. But maybe it doesn't rain as much in SoCal as it does in Florida so leaky windows are okay?
