  1. Yes, w/o "locking" hubs you'll be running the front diff and driveshaft 100% of the time. That's wear and drag that isn't needed, but unless you go into 4wd on dry pavement it won't cause bind. It also creates noise. Once I was driving Dad's truck to Ark City and trying to figure out where the extra noise was coming from. Finally figured out one hub was locked it. Unlocked it and it went quiet again. As for the shafts, skipping the NP229 step makes sense to me. No sense to have two sets of driveshafts made up.
  2. That's an interesting set of gauges. But it won't work for my trucks since I'm running the later model fuel level sending units. But, I guess I could run a MeterMatch if Dakota Digital doesn't have a fix. Not that I'm interested in doing it, but was just thinking. Way too many other things to do at the moment.
  3. I don't know whether the officer asked for ID or not. I assumed an officer would be trained to do so in a situation like this. And I hope Jim will come back and say "You guys are CRAZY!" But he's got some 'splaining to do.
  4. The police department called back and said they sent an officer out and he talked with Jim. "He is well but his phone has been off for several days. However, it is on now and I can call him or he will call me." So I called and no one answered. Left a message and asked him to call back. I'll let y'all know.
  5. I called the police department in the town where Jim lives and gave the officer all of the details, including his last post, his telephone #, the fact we've called, emailed, and sent text messages - to no avail. And the bit about the people saying "he's ok" and then being the ones to sign for the card I sent. He said he would call that number and if he gets no answer he will send an officer out to check up on Jim. And then he will call me back to let me know what he finds out. And I'll let y'all know as well.
  6. Wow! That is quite a list! Some of those options I've never seen before, like the headlights on with wipers. Perhaps they are '87 options on an '86 truck?
  7. I'm very confused about the headlight doors. The snippet from the catalog shows there to be a medium argent version, but it was used with the chrome grille, and that one clearly doesn't have the chrome grille.
  8. I think you are right! It is and has always been a stripper. Wow, look at those miles. That's a time machine.
  9. Oh, I forgot the question about hubs. Milemarker and Warn are the top two in my opinion.
  10. Swiper, no swiping! I think the length of the E4OD, even coupled with the shorter NP208, is likely to cause you to need new shafts. But, who knows. Having said that, you know where the NP208 is. What I didn't point out is the pretty E4OD in Dad's truck. We/you can measure both of them and get an idea of the total length.
  11. Yes, I think you got a good deal! The switches and bezels are probably worth that. Plus the door panels and arm rests. Yep, good deal.
  12. You are now on the map. And if you were to follow that little dotted curve, the one centered on New Castle, to Highway 7 you'd have been half a mile from my house.

Thanks, No they did a great job. Was more meaning Will be going back, for another project I'm thinking of. More Oh, now I understand. Great!
  14. Welcome! Glad you joined. Philly area? We have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we can add you. But, when I lived in Kennett Square I'd have said "Philly area" as no one knows where Kennett is. So, where are you? Mechanic? Yeah! We can use the help! As for having your grandfather's truck, there are several of those on here and we love them! Especially me as I'm a grandfather and hope my grandkids will like my trucks.

Not sure I understand. "...but will be doing back lol Bad things a coming." Are you saying they didn't do a good job? But good job on the pilot bearing. And hope you get the tranny in this weekend!
  16. Excellent! Not that I was right, but that you got the problem solved.
  17. Well, to tell the truth we aren't convinced he's ok. My card got there today as was signed for by someone in the same family that told Scott that Jim is ok. That raised flags in my mind and I plan to call the police there in the morning and ask them to do a wellness check.
  18. Kevin - Just sent you an email. But yes, the ignition module can cause poor running. When I fired up Big Blue's new engine for the first time about a month ago it ran horribly. But I needed to keep it running for at least 20 minutes to break in the cam. Meanwhile I noticed that it backfired a bunch and wouldn't run hardly at all above 2000 RPM. And, the tach did weird things. After the break-in I swapped ignition modules and it ran dramatically better. Totally different. But you haven't told us what carb you have. And some carbs can have failures that cause the air/fuel ratio to be so rich that the plugs load up. So tell us more about what you have? And maybe put some of that in your signature? It'll help us help you w/o having to ask a lot of questions.
  19. I agree. With pieces that nice I'd find a way to mount them, even w/o the tabs.
  20. Trust me, I am NOT in a hurry! As for working for it, I had my grandtwins helping me in the shop this summer. They are now 9 and are starting to be very helpful. Love working with them.
  21. If you right-click on the image in FTE it gives you an option to copy the image which you can then paste somewhere else. I don't know if that would give any better quality than a screenshot, but it might be worth a try. Ashby - Ok, I think I understand. Thanks! Bob - I hadn't tried the copy/paste bit, but have now. Let's see how it works. I'm setting them both to have a width of 100% of whatever screen you are viewing them on, so they should be the same size. Here's the file that I copied from FTE and pasted into Photoshop and saved as large as I could go on file size - 62KB: And here's the screen-grabbed file, which is 123 KB: Bottom Line: Little if any difference. The screen-grabbed file should be better since it is a larger file, but I'm not seeing any difference. Basically, you might as well screen-grab what you want from FTE as it is easier than copying and pasting, and might be of higher quality.
  22. So it was the bracket you bent? Or the pillar? Or both?
