  1. I'm staying out of the discussion about which name to use, but I think it is good to get all of the ideas out so people can think about it. And that seems to be working as I've seen the voting shift as people rethink what they like and change their vote - which you can easily do. So keep up the discussion, please. Having said that, I don't see the name as a huge deal. There are several options that seem to work fairly well and I wanted y'all to have a hand in deciding. Helping to make decisions like this is part of being a "community". As for "Bullnose Truck Enthusiast Club", I can't change the poll and I'm loathe to blow this one away and start over. So let's try this: No one has voted for Bullnose Bible Club, so from now on through the poll a vote for that will be a vote for Bullnose Truck Enthusiast Club. GO VOTE!
  2. Sounds like you know what you are doing.
  3. Elon Musk is the reason I will not own a Tesla. As for Boeing, their outsourcing to Spirit concerned me from the start. The company I worked for actually tried to get involved with the outsourcing, and that was a concern because I knew full well how we cut spending and corners. Luckily we weren't involved.
  4. Be careful as the power to the fuse box and ignition switch goes through fuselinks - short pieces of smaller wire with a special insulation on it that won't melt. They serve as the circuit protection to things in the cab and some form of protection is necessary. If it was mine I'd probably do what I did on Big Blue or others have done - install a relay/fuse box combo on the fender near the starter relay. Use the fuse slots to replace the fuselinks and the run new wire to the ignition and factory fuse box. But, since you'd have relay spots I'd then install relays to power the headlights. Use the existing headlight wire to trigger the relays and you'll have much brighter lights. And, if you really want to make your HVAC blower work better put in relays to provide the ground and power to it. Several of us have done all of that and can help you through it. Oh yes, unless you put in a really heavy wire, like #10 or at least #12 gauge, to the HEI you won't get full power out of it. So I'd run a relay that provides serious power to the ignition.
  5. Ok, I have a pdf version that has good links in it, and I can edit it in my Foxit pdf editor. But it doesn't carry the 1987 - 96 stuff over beside the Bullnose stuff, so I decided to delete that out of the document. After all we are a Bullnose site and I can find another way to provide access to it.
  6. Ok, by exporting to pdf from Excel I got it to bring the links over and I added the document to the Library page. But there are at least two problems. The first is that I cannot edit the pdf in my pdf editing software. Well, more accurately, I can edit the file but the links didn't come over into that editor. In other words, that file works fine embedded on the Library page as you can click on the links and get them to open up the doc that you are asking for. But when I open the same file in Foxit, my pdf editor, the links aren't there. The text is, but it isn't a hyperlink. The second problem is that it creates a "portrait" pdf instead of "landscape, so the documents out past 1986 are on pages way below instead of over to the side. That is probably something I can fix - if I can get a document that I can edit. I do NOT want to have to recreate the whole thing from scratch with all the links. And I do not want to have to keep it in Excel format, edit it there, then export it to PDF.
  7. Converting it is easy. I've converted it to a pdf three times. But none of those have active links. I've not tried on the iphone yet, but I'll see what I can find.
  8. There is more than one main power wire. Assuming you have a gasoline engine (you don't have a signature so we don't know anything about your truck) the best wiring diagrams for your '84 are in the 1985 EVTM: Documentation/Electrical/EVTMs/1985 EVTM. Then pick Charge & Power Distribution (Gas). Then, depending on whether you have gauges or idiot lights you'll see there are two main circuits to the fuse box and ignition switch: Ckt 37 is Yellow and Ckt 38 is Bk/O. I believe both of those pass through the firewall near the fuse box.
  9. Jeff - I need some help. In the thread Should We Move To A New Forum Platform you converted the spreadsheet showing what is in the library to a pdf. After editing the spreadsheet today I couldn't re-create what you did. My Foxit pdf editor doesn't preserve the links, my Word app doesn't want to load the spreadsheet, and printing it from Excel through my pdf printer app didn't work either. So can you help me convert it to PDF? I'd like to maintain it in that format in future if I can.
  10. Got some documents from Paul/Rockhauler and added them to the library: 1985 Diesel Owner Guide Supplement 1985 Operating Guide 1986 4-Wheeling With Ford 1986 Maintenance Schedule He also sent an instruction/layout sheet for a trailer lamp & plug wire kit as well as a picture of the envelope that some of the documentation came in, as shown below. I'm still trying to figure out where to put those things, so if you have suggestions please let me know. Thanks, Paul!!!!
  11. The PCV line goes into the intake and, in theory, gets burned with the fuel. But as earlier said, there's a PCV valve that has a restriction in it so it isn't a fully-open line, which would lean out the air/fuel mix too much. If the engine has a lot of blowby then the rings are leaking. That's the way combustion gases get into the crankcase, not truly seals.
  12. We could drop the "s" and make it Bullnose Truck Club. I'm sure I could "buy" that URL and release the one with the "s". So if Bullnose Trucks Club is the winner we can check to see what people want to do. I think there are ways around that, although Chris/ckuske is probably the better one to answer it so I'll tag him. But first, if we keep the URLs of garysgaragemahal.com and bullnosebible.com we can re-direct them to whatever the "new" URL is. So all of their saved links would work. And a search for "bullnosebible" turns us up. But I don't know what we need to do to ensure that continues, which is something I'm sure Chris can tell us - and why I've asked him to be our Technical Advisor.
  13. Bob - Good explanation for why you voted the way you did. Your thinking is quite similar to mine, by the way. Concerning Gary's Garagemahal, perhaps we could immortalize that in an About page? Maybe trace the history of that moniker, outline why I started a website, how that website morphed into the Bullnose library, when & why the forum was started, etc? If that is worded correctly it will paint a picture of "community", which is what we are and what was, and still is, lacking elsewhere. Voting on the name is just one example of that. I know that many are interested in what we call ourselves and I don't want to make that decision w/o their input. Which leads me to something I've been thinking about a lot - the board of directors. A non-profit has to have a BoD and I want to set this one up with a few people who will help make decisions about the place. For far too long I've been making those decisions by myself. If we had one now they would have helped find a new platform, decide on the name, and helped me investigate how to become a non-profit. And certainly they would have helped make the decision to hire a legal firm to make it happen. So while it has been Gary's Garagemahal, I want it to be something more inclusive. I want it to be a community of people who not only care about these vehicles but also care about each other.
  14. Yes, that's effectively what it has - a road draft tube. And those went away in the mid to late 60's.
  15. Ahhh, now I see what you meant by cat fight. Good eye on the plates. I'd noticed that they are German plates, but not the Do. This site says "DO - Dortmund, North-Rhine-Westphalia". According to Google Maps that is 642 KM or about 400 miles.
  16. The way Positive Crankcase Ventilation is supposed to work is that there's a line from the valve cover to the carb or intake, which puts a vacuum on the crankcase. And on the other side of the engine, the other valve cover on a V8, there's a line from the oil filler to the air cleaner, so that air sucked in there is filtered. Without that system there's positive pressure in the crankcase and blowby escapes, like you saw at both the filler and the hose at back. Even new engines have some blowby, but old engines may have a lot - and still perform quite well. So the oil leak may just be the blowby?
  17. That's 'spensive! But, it looks to be complete and still has the latch on the lid, both of which are unusual.
  18. Now THAT is good thinking! I really like that. And I'll bet that switch makes a big difference on how long the battery lasts. It is amazing how many things bleed power.
  19. As part of the upcoming move to InVision we are going to incorporate as a 501c7 non-profit. In doing so we have to have an official name, so this poll is to get your input on what name to use. However, as we do this I think it is time to get away from the garysgaragemahal URL and use one that fits our name. Until today we only had two reserved: bullnosebible.com & bullnoseenthusiasts.com. But Chris suggested we pick up bullnosetrucks.org, so I did. I think our name should basically be basically one of those. However, in Oklahoma the name of a corporation must contain one of these words: association; company; corporation; club; foundation; fund; incorporated; institute; society; union; syndicate; or limited. To me only "association", "club", and "society" seem to work for us, although if you think otherwise please let me know. Anyway, that gives these combinations as options, although I don't care for the "bible" combinations. Anyway, please vote. .
  20. I remember it very well, David. Good times!
  21. Jonathan - We started a long time ago, but now we have something that helps a whole lot of people. Thanks for your support.
  22. Eddie sure looks good! But I'm not sure what you mean about the cat fight? Bummer about the exhaust! Have you checked the header to see that it is flat? As said before, I'd start by torquing the bolts in the center and then spiraling out to the ends. But the factory shop manual says: Working from the center to the ends, tighten the bolts to specifications. As for the trip, I thought it was a lot farther to Neuschwanstein. But last time we were there these cars were in the car park:
