  1. Fixed another issue on Big Blue today - the windshield washer. Turns out it was a bad connector, as explained here, but I thought it might be a common enough problem that others should know so I explained in another thread.
  2. Strange. The MPC says this is for 82/86 F100/150's. Note that it isn't said to fit F250 or F350's, or Broncos.
  3. I can't verify this as the E4 version appears to have been replaced by an F2 version: F2TZ 9910608-A 80/89 F250/350(99) - - 4/W/D 80/89 F250(99 Super Cab) - - 2/W/D
  4. That shows up in only one calibration parts list: CALIBRATION PARTS LIST NO. 455 (Calibration No. 5-54W-R0)-8 Cyl. 302 (E.F.I.) C.I.D. (5.0L) 1985 F150 - - 2/W/D—AOT—w/Hi—altitude carb. 1985 F250 - - 2/W/D—AOT—w/Hi—altitude carb,
  5. The 2888 braces are for dealer-installed A/C. But I can't find E3TZ 2888-F in the MPC. There's an E7TZ but no E3TZ 2888-F braces.
  6. Well done! That's reasonable MPG, and if it still drives well you should be good on the AFR.
  7. Today I resolved a problem on Big Blue that's been eluding me for some time - the windshield washer pump wouldn't run. I checked the wiring with a test light and the hot wire was hot when I pushed the washer button. And I tested the motor by using jumper wires and it worked perfectly. But it still wouldn't work when I put it back together. So I started checking further. I could see the ground wire was coming from a known good ground right up to the connector, and the hot was proven good, so what could be wrong? As it turned out, the ground circuit was broken inside the connector, but the terminal was still in the connector. With a bit of probing the terminal came out, and in the pic below you can just make out that the right/ground side of the connector doesn't have a terminal. So I got to looking around for connectors to replace it, and found one from another harness. But to make sure that it would fit I tried the old connector on another windshield washer reservoir and it wouldn't go on. But, it looked like it should so I took a closer look. Lo and behold, there was already a terminal on one of the pins! Apparently this is a common problem if out of three connectors I have a bad one, and out of three reservoirs I have one that's had a bad connector on it - from another harness. Given that, if you are trying to figure out why your windshield washer pump won't work take a look at the connector!
  8. Yes, I understand the "cooped up" feeling. Everyone is wanting to bust out. Unfortunately things aren't getting better, so...
  9. Matthew, we’re will miss you. So sorry you can’t make it. 😩
  10. That looks great, Bill! I think it is a winner.
  11. Yes, I hope you get this sorted. But I'm with you, if the fans are still on at cruise something is wrong. And that very well could be the design of the shroud. Which, if that is the case then whatever fan you put in there will have to be running when on the highway at yesterday's temps. And then you have no reserve. I hadn't though of the shroud being an issue before, but that lends a lot of credence to using one large fan and the original shroud. You know it is well designed and it has been working. So all you need is a two-speed fan to put in there so you can have some flow while sitting at lights with the engine idling.
  12. Looks good, Jerry! Lots of work on the instruments, but it paid off. Well done.
  13. It seems like half the time I replace a power window motor I get that. I end up pulling the wires out of the connector on the motor and reversing them. Yes, I should have reversed the wires in the motor's connector. Literally was just kicking myself for not having done that.
  14. Precisely! Skin and clothing magnets those are. Which is why mine are gone! I'm carrying a hydraulic bottle jack and its handle.
  15. I've not done anything "to" my trucks, but "with". Over the weekend a friend (Foxford33) and family borrowed Blue and the trailer to get some of his grandfather's thing for his new shop. They brought the rig back Sunday and we left it in the shop's driveway. Yesterday I positioned the trailer in the middle of the driveway so I could get around it and moved Blue into the garage. Then a friend with a 90's F150 called to ask questions about replacing the window motor on the driver's door. And after some discussion I suggested he bring it over. He brought it over today along with the replacement motor he'd purchased. So we spent quite some time trying to install it, but couldn't get it to fit. Finally we went to the attic and discovered that I had a passenger-side motor and pulled it. As it turned out, the replacement isn't the right one. But the one I had bolted up, although Up is down and Down is up. However, he was happy so we left it that way. (And part of his happiness might have to do with us fixing the window scraper by pop-riveting it to the door panel.) Then we moved the trailer into the carport using Big Blue and his front-mounted trailer hitch. Boy, that hitch makes all the difference! And, I needed 4wd to get the trailer over a hump, so the click when the Warn Premium hubs locked in sure was satisfying.
  16. Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. I've started putting one of those HF blue blankest over the top of that sucker! Oh, I know what you are talking about as well! What really hurts is when the @#$%^&* stool slides and plants you on the latch. And as you are flailing about you catch your arm on the hooks for the jack handle. Usually HF has what Northern has, and you know where the new HF store is.
  17. I would second that save for the fact he apparently also wants to access the front of the engine compartment since he has gotten caught on the hood latch. So, I suggest one of the stoolss and two of the tire steps. Seriously though, I think I'm going to get one of the tire steps. And if it works as well as I think it will I'll get another. That's 'cause I will be doing the EFI work this winter and that stool has slid out from under me too many times.
  18. That's a good one! Guess I missed that one ... was in the service during Viet Nam so basically was isolated from nearly all civilian news. However, once out and back in college, I have to say the mini-skirts were really super! Story: Was finally early to one of my liberal arts classes, last day with the course Final, (normally late due to a long walk from a previous class) and noticed all the guys standing around the entrance to the stair well that went upstairs. Looking up I could see why .... If you were in Viet Nam you may be a contemporary of mine. I was lucky enough not to have to go as my birthday was #366 in the draft, but many of my friends did go. Born in '47.
  19. More tools for the tool box! Thanks for the heads-up and the link! Perfect! (so long as I don't make a mistake in cutting or measuring) I'll have to look again at the tubing covers, maybe they are hose instead of foam. And, for the underside picture of your rig ... that is sooo OUTSTANDING! I'd nominate it for "Picture of the Month"! This is so clean that at a truck show you'll have to put a mirror under it with lights and the rig on jack stands. Gorgeous! Under the heading "a picture is worth a thousand words", the fuel line covers with the tubing and the insulation really helps to show how to do it. I plan to follow in your footsteps. By the way, noticed a Ford manufacturing plate on the far right side ... what is that for? I don't recall ever seeing one. The plate is on the ZF5 tranny. That tranny came from a later F350 truck and I used it to replace the T-19 for two reasons: it has an overdrive and it has a steeper first gear. As for the underside of my truck, that's the way it was before I started using it. Now it has been on several hundred miles of dirt roads, many of them in the rain, and it isn't as clean. Anyway, if you want to see what I did you can start here in my rather lengthy (281 pages and still going) thread on the transformation of Big Blue. Not every post from that point was about the fuel system, but you can skip over the others.
  20. That is sad! So sorry. I'm with Scott on where to advertise. However, there are a dozen FB pages for these trucks and you might advertise there as well.
  21. Jeez, I've got to get me something like that. Working on my truck with the step stool I've been using is a real pain in the rear. Actually, in the belly from leaning over the radiator support panel and getting stuck in the hood closure mechanism..... Yes, that hurts! I like the step, but it can move on you if you lean too much. So I've been known to strap it to the tire for working over the fender. And the one that goes over the tire might be better for that reason.
