  1. Make sure you have the box ticked that says "Alert me by email when someone posts to this thread". You can do that in a reply. But otherwise you may not know if someone posts in this thread. (I "assigned" this to you to force the system to send you an email.)
  2. Welcome! Glad you joined. Several things to say. First, I'm really glad to see another truck kept in the family. I love that. Next, where's home? I ask because we have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we can add you if we know the city/state or postal/zip code. And, as you are one of the first to have registered via our new joining process, which isn't quite right yet, can you please tell us how it went? Did you have any problems? What were the steps? Last, the 1980 trucks had a short 12-digit VIN instead of the 18-digit VIN used in '81 and later trucks. You can see that in the snippet below from our page at Documentation/Specification/VIN Decoding. So that makes the decoding a bit different, but it can be done.
  3. I've toyed with trying to force notifications to be enabled on threads where we've posted. Doesn't make sense that we can post and then not be notified that someone replied. Will work on that, but after we migrate to the new servers and I sort out all the problems that creates.
  4. I agree, it looks fantastic! Well done! And I like the idea of the brackets, pulleys, etc being black. Maybe the coil as well? Shame that the supply chain has gotten so clogged up and you can't get the push rods. And from what I'm seeing it'll be quite some time before things get back to normal. Still, this will give you time to do the other things, like the brackets, fuel line routing, etc. It'll be great when you are done.
  5. Pheasant hunting here depends on the time of year. The birds are typically in open fields and in the early part of the season they'll sit until you are close and then fly - with a heart-stopping sound that usually causes you to shoot too early. (My grandfather had a story about that. He always wore a cap when hunting, and one day a friend asked why. He said "When the birds get up I through the cap on the ground, stomp on it, and then shoot. By then the birds have gotten far enough away I can hit it.") But later in the year after they've been hunted they run instead of getting up, which is when we deploy another line of hunters at the end of the field to kick them up. (Or maybe the ones still living always ran and the ones that flew have been eaten?) But quail are different. There are some quail in the open fields, but they like the windrows that surround the old homesteads. Or, they are in the woods. But in either case most of our shooting is much more open than that shown in your pictures. And dove do their own thing. Some sit in trees. Some fly to the ponds. And they fly like they are drunk. So it is a bit of a challenge to have the right gun and the right loads. A few years ago we hunted in southern KS and my gun had a full choke but light shot, like #6 or 7 1/2. But that shot wasn't quite heavy enough for the pheasant if they got up very far away. However, it worked fairly well with the quail.
  6. Cool! Some of my most fun days were hunting dove, quail, and pheasant. But I didn't enjoy hunting in close quarters like you show in those pics! I found it really hard to get a shot. And I don't know anything about grouse or woodcocks, nor how they compare to the game I've hunted. But I do know that a good dog makes a huge difference, so it sounds like you make have the makings of a really good one. Congrat's! As for the shooting, I'm not so sure that 3 out of 10 isn't pretty good in those conditions. Having said that, I see at least 3 different hulls out of 10 shells.
  7. That will make a huge difference! Glad it worked out. So, how are the brakes?
  8. I gave my Stihl trimmer to my brother as he has its mate. Said he's had to rebuild the carb almost yearly and this will give him spare parts so he can have a carb "on the shelf". On the other hand, our father loved Stihls and he was introduced to them by our uncle, who was an avid outdoorsman and used a chain saw frequently. So their saws were probably from West Germany as well.
  9. I'll wait and see what the others say as you already know my thoughts. (Somewhere In Time is over. Had to watch it 'cause it was filmed on Mackinac Island, where we were a week ago. Now to work on the NMSH page... )
  10. Bob - I did read most of the thread in the link. And agree that with the spring in there shouldn't be much movement. I suspect that something is badly worn and hope it is the caliper and not the knuckle.
  11. Folks - In preparation for our migration to the AWS servers we've revised our "joining" process. And while you are probably already a member so won't be impacted by a change in the joining process, we also changed the guidelines. And since we hold all members to the guidelines this does apply to you, so please continue to read this post. The reason for changing the guidelines was because we wanted to include them in the joining process and require new members to say they've read them and will adhere to them. But when we studied what we had we discovered that parts of them were really more "suggestions" than "guidelines". And, we found that a statement on the FORD Forum page regarding politics and religion really needed to be in the guidelines. So now if you go to the New Members Start Here folder you'll find that we've listed both guidelines and suggestions, as shown on the left, below. And if you were to register as a new member you'd find the page shown on the right, with just the guidelines listed and a box that has to be ticked to say you've read them and will follow them. But if you have suggestions on either the guidelines or the process please let us know.
  12. I’ve got to figure out where I’m going to put it. I have a cabinet in my garage I put decals on. I don’t usually put decals on my vehicles. Although I do have one on my Bronco. Hmmm… this will obviously take some deep thought! I don't usually put stickers on my vehicles either, but for some reason put this one on. And here's where I put it. Had to go up high so it wouldn't be below the toolbox.
  13. Yes, the spring is supposed to take up the slack. But I don't think there is supposed to be 3/16's of an inch slack.
  14. I don't think LMC actually makes anything. In this case the tanks are from Spectra.
  15. Cool! Show us a pic of it installed? I'm curious where people put them.
  16. The LMC catalog doesn't say that the new tanks need to be sealed, does it? I think what it is saying is that you can seal your old tank, and that's the prep needed to do so. (But I think that's a poor idea since new tanks are so cheap.) I bought Spectra tanks about two years ago and put them directly into service. I didn't clean them and certainly didn't use any POR-15, Cleaner Degreaser, or Metal Prep. And I've had absolutely no problems.
  17. That’s not normal. It should be a pretty close fit or it will rattle. While you can’t swap the calipers and use them that way you should be able to swap to see if it is the caliper or the knuckle that is wrong.
  18. Yep, got that. I looked EGO up. But I thought echos are sound-powered.
  19. Let's "assign" this to him since that will send him an email to say he's wanted. Otherwise he may miss it.
  20. She looks like she's having fun. As for gluing those, I don't have experience with them, but had assumed that JB Weld would work. There's nothing close to them on the back side so you could put a splint or fishplate on them along with the epoxy.
  21. No, I know what you're saying on the Hummer and agree! I could have told you on that Stihl. Their commercial products are great but their residential stuff is garbage. I purchased a Stihl Combi package sometime back and hated it from day one. Following that experience, I purchased an Echo trimmer and after a couple years of use and liking it so much, I purchased their blower and then finally their chainsaw. Two pull, assisted start every time, even after winter storage. Great stuff! I went EGO on my battery stuff and so far I like it. I bought it off reviews. Time will tell but it works great and looks to be very high quality. Hadn’t heard of EGO. But I see they make a lot of power tools. They look good, but I’m into Ryobi now. Pulling the trigger and not having to fuss with starting, mixing, etc is a huge improvement.
  22. Yes! When we were moved to the S1 servers on Nabble they couldn’t get things working correctly so we could log on to the embedded site. So after I complained LOUDLY they turned httpS on and that solved the problem. Now we are awaiting Pedro figuring out how to get us a certificate for the AWS servers and we’ll be ready to move.
