  1. I want to monitor battery voltage, not cab voltage since it will vary by the number of accessories that are on. Which is why I'm going to use a key-on relay to power the volt meter. But, that's just my preference. As for Bob, I didn't know that he did all that. We need to get his info on the Resource page. What can we share? On the ground, I like your idea. That way you can put it back.
  2. Well, I could read lots into that. Like, maybe I don't think. Or, what is a Foxit? More likely, what is "deskew" and "OCR"? So, I'll assume the latter and 'splain. I have a piece of software, Foxit, that I use to manage all of the documents we enjoy. A couple of days ago I discovered that it will operate my scanner, which has a document feeder. So I can load a document of up to probably 50 sheets of paper, hit GO, and go away while it works. When it scans the pages in they are actually pictures of words, not words. So I told it to "optically character recognize" (OCR) the pages, which creates words from the pictures of words. That means you can actually search the document. Also, "deskew" means it will straighten the page after it is scanned in. And that's been a huge problem for me for years as the results I've gotten by hand-loading pages on the scanner's glass haven't been good. Does it work? ABSOLUTELY! I've even loaded the pages backwards and it rotates them and straightens them. I'll see what the injection pump info says. Shucks, as easy as it is I may just scan it in. But, I won't scan all of what Bill left me. No way, Jose! There are 3 cross-reference books that let me cross an ID/engineering number to a part number, or vice versa. And they have thousands of pages. Yes, things are getting easier.
  3. There will be a simple place to go - here.
  4. I recently took a test to determine how I think (or if I do?), and I learned that I like to learn. And, I've been learning lots lately. For instance, I found that my PDF program (Foxit PhantomPDF) can run my scanner. In fact, it can even run the document feeder! On top of that, it can deskew and OCR as it reads pages in. So, as I type this it is finishing up scanning in the last of the "starter" pages, and in the last two days I've scanned in more than 300 pages - while doing other things. And, with that I've gotten quite a start on all those "interchange" pages in the catalog. Here's where we will be at the end of the day: Brakes: Done! There are 11 documents containing 259 pages covering front & rear brakes (rotors, drums, shoes, calipers), master cylinders, and boosters. And they span the years from 1951 to 1998. Steering: Done! This has a document on power steering pumps and one on steering gear boxes, with a total of 70 pages. Starters: Done! This is a 27 page doc. Air Conditioning: This one isn't done, but it has the info on the compressor clutch in a 12-page document. Still to come is a document on compressors and one on compressors with the clutch. But, I've not scanned several sections as I don't think they'll be of much help. However, I'd like your input on that regarding these sections: Engines, cylinder heads, rocker arms, crankshafts, water pumps, oil pumps, transmissions, turbochargers, carburetors, alternators, diesel injection pumps, and distributors. I really don't see that they will be helpful as they really don't tell much. For instance, the dizzy doc for 1980 says that an F100 w/a 302 must get its dizzy from another 1980 F100 w/a 302. Similarly the carb section shows really small ranges for a source for the carb - because they have to meet emissions. So I think we can give those a miss and move on to the A/C compressors and window lift motors and call this good. But, I do want your thoughts.
  5. So, is it truly "off" or is it still indicating voltage and, therefore, pulling power?
  6. I'm trying to see it through the exhausts, mirrors, running boards, air horns, visor, etc. And somewhere down there I think there's a nice truck.
  7. Looks good, Ron. Where did you tell Rocketman you wanted the gauge to read? I told him I wanted the center to be 12.8v. How/where did you wire it? With a relay or to switched power? And, I'll show my ignorance - who is OO-BEGUB?
  8. That is COOL! I would use that a lot more than my solid-state scope which has a true CRT display. But, it shows as discontinued. Did you find it used?
  9. Bingo! I really dislike the Spicer website and on-line catalog. Man, that thing is a pain. But, if you stay with it you can ultimately get to this page for a 1982 Bronco. And, to answer the question, a Dana 44 front axle takes 1310WJ u-joints. So, now how to document this????? Oh, and if you want to know what the axles should look like:
  10. That's a cool idea! The late 40's/early 50's Chevy trucks had a similar difference in bed length and the # of stake pockets.
  11. Steve, thanks. It might help - if I could map to what I'm finding to what you show. The master parts catalog shows several "parts lists" for the D44 front axle. Jeff's axle is probably a 30.3L, M, or N. Here's an excerpt from the parts list that includes the "N". Note that for a u-joint is shows a "kit" and it is part # D3TZ 3249-A. Thank you very much, Ford, but that part number does not show anywhere else in the catalog but in parts lists. But, the plot thickens. Here's their cross-reference from Ford part #'s to industry-standard part #'s. Note that there are no D3's. And, they are all "4635", which is a u-joint, not "3249" which is a kit. So I'm trying to track down what a D3TZ 3249-A includes in the way of u-joints. And, I'm poking around the Spicer site, but all I'm finding so far is "assemblies" and not the u-joints themselves. But I think that's going to be the best way to answer the question. But, if we knew the dimensions. Wait a cotton-picking minute! I have the axles from Dad's truck laying on the bench, all powder-coated and shiny. Let me go take some measurements....
  12. Let me see what I can dig up. I think the info is buried in parts lists.....
  13. Bingo! The item first shows in the catalog in 1985 as: 40374 PANEL (BACK LOWER TRIM). And for '85 the part # E5TZ 1040374-XXX where the "XXX" would be something like "B8B", which is Regatta Blue.
  14. Sounds like a plan, Stan. But, will you use the 4wd components on your current Flareside? Or make this one into a 4wd Flareside?
  15. The '96 may be EEC-V with OBD-II, SEFI, MAF, etc. The basic shortblock is the same, but it would make a nice upgrade if everything is there.
  16. If they are engineering numbers I may be able to find them as I have a cross-reference that goes back into the 70's.
  17. That's a good idea - especially with a 4-poster. I've had things under my 2-post once or twice, but since the arms move and extend there's not much way to paint where it'll come down. But at least you'll know on yours.
  18. I also assume a tranny shop will understand those numbers. And the link is a good read, but their part numbers don't match ours.
  19. I'm sorry, but I don't have anything with an auto so can't take a pic. Maybe someone else?
  20. Let's see if this helps: Interior/Steering Columns and see the Steering Wheel Connections tab. I think you need to connect to the horn connection and then your other wire should have a spring clip that will go into one of those two holes.
  21. Bill - I've now added the whole of the parts list from the catalog to the parts list tab. And I added all of the illustrations to the Illustration tab. All three, meaning the illustrations, parts list, and rebuild proc's are OCR'd pdf's, so you can open them in a new tab on your browser using the Full Screen icon in the bottom right and search the document for what you want. I suspect the governor is 7C063 and you'll see the application of the various ones used. But, there's no info as to the differences between them. Angelo - If you know what vehicle the tranny is out of I might be able to find it in the catalogs I have. All - I duplicated the first illustration in order to prove/disprove a theory I have that the first page in a pdf isn't as crisp. So please provide me some feedback on that.
