  1. My first thought was that this post doesn't really belong in the FORD Lounge since it is on-topic. But then I noticed it says FORD across the hood and across the tailgate, so it really does fit. Seriously though, that is a really nice truck. And I really love that it is a one-owner. I'd say he needs to join this forum, but he obviously knows how to maintain the truck already.
  2. Somehow I hope that gets handled by Friendly, Open, & Responsible.
  3. Well, the votes came down to 7 for FORD Lounge and 6 for Lounge. And that was w/o my vote. So we now have The FORD Lounge. And it is pinned. Thanks to Jim for suggesting an off-topic thread, and to David for the FORD idea.
  4. This is an open forum for off-topic discussions. However, please stay away from politics and religion as they are subjects that could easily polarize us. In fact, as David/1986F150Six put it, "FORD" in the title of the thread stands for: So, let's get started. How 'bout the US women's soccer team? Oh wait, this is an international forum and we have some Brit's on here, which they just beat, so we can't talk about that.
  5. Powertank is the best known brand offering CO2 tanks specifically for airing up tires. They are are incredibly high pressure (by air system standards) and have high-flow regulators that will air up huge tires fast. There are also different sizes available. I mostly hear about getting them refilled at welding shops. Not sure if dive shops could as well or not. But that doesn't replace an air tank. It could be used in place of a compressor, but with the downside of not working once the tank is empty. Or it can be a second system, to use as primary (since it's faster) but with an onboard air system for when it runs out. I've considered getting one, but ultimately just default to using my onboard air (which I have primarily for my "toad" brakes, so something that could run out really didn't seem like the right way to go as an only option). I'm concerned about the one-shot aspect as well. I think I want to continue down the on-board air system idea and fine tune that. Having said that, some of you know Scott, aka WelderScott here on the forum. He's been at the show the last two years with his '78 as well as his try-your-hand-at-welding stand, and runs a welding shop in Tulsa. In fact, he's planning to come over when it is time to weld the patch into Big Blue's crossmember. Anyway, I'll check with him about tanks and filling them with CO2. And, for grins, here's a pic from his intro thread. That's him in the truck, with Ben on the left and Chuck on the right - all friends from church. Ben's the one that runs the metal fab shop and is going to do the rear bumper/spare tire carrier for Big Blue. So I also need to talk to him about a purpose-built tank, one designed to bolt into these trucks.
  6. Now, that's speaking of our phones, etc. But that doesn't mean there aren't ones elsewhere for pickups. ...Now we just have to find ones that we want. Hint, hint, hint.... I touched on this before, but it's the Unicode consortium... They create the standard. They decide what will be recognized by almost all devices. There will be no trademarks (Ford oval) There are almost no big pickups on Japan, where this stuff started. This is why you don't see them. But you can get png's like this: https://www.stickpng.com/img/icons-logos-emojis/car-logos/car-logo-ford I think our smilies have to be gifs, not pngs. However, I can probably convert them. The gifs allow for animation that I don't think pngs do. Like the laughing smiley I added. But we aren't using unicode. So we aren't tied to that list. Which means the sky is the limit. Let me see what others I can dig up, but y'all suggest some as well, please.
  7. Cory - That is coming together very, VERY nicely! You are going to be PROUD! On the engine, I don't think sitting for eight months will be a problem on the oil. Eight years, yes. But let's see what the others say.
  8. I wish you'd said "Well, so what's the trick?". Then I could have used my father's response of "That's a deep subject, don't fall in." But, you didn't so I won't. :nabble_ezgif-com-resize-1_orig: Seriously though, you can read the nitty gritty details on the Nabble Support forum here. But the short version is that there are many, many macros hidden behind the scenes on this forum. And I can edit them via the "Edit this page" link at the bottom of the page. One of those macros was being overridden by another macro I've installed that governs where and how pics are displayed. Greg is another Nabble user, but he's a super-user and even has a Nabble help website of his own. He dug into the guts of Nabble's forums and found the problem and devised a solution - and a solution that didn't mess with the positioning of all of our pics, which was my worry. And he posted his findings and solution in the post linked to above. Then I edited that macro on our forum and voilĂ , it works! So now we can move on to the next phase of this effort knowing that they aren't in vain. Lay it on me! What smilies do you folks want?
  9. Maybe your problem is the .gif or .png extension? FOOF is a very explosive compound. It's also the sound gas makes when igniting... I was thinking something like an exploding cigar or when Daffy demands that it's "Duck Season!" and gets his bill blown round and round his head. -I did it to myself, and I should have known better- The mind blown emoji is close but it has its own meaning. U+1F92F 🤯 This is a test of the smiley code. A buddy of mine in the UK gave me a code change that hopefully makes the smilies show up in-line rather than in the middle of the page all by themselves on a line. Here goes: :nabble_ezgif-com-resize-1_orig: Did that work? Yippeeeeee! It DID!
  10. Well said, Jim. I also noted that he'd passed away yesterday. He certainly changed the course of automotive history.
  11. Thanks! happy to be on the member's map. You are on the map. But I moved you a bit north of Johns Creek so you wouldn't be on top of Matthew. However, since we aren't trying for precision so people can't drive to your house, it shouldn't be a problem. But if you want it moved just tell me where.
  12. Thanks, Brandon. You too, Dave. Ferdinand - Does that give you enough to get started?
  13. Good update. And, that is a win/win. Either way it goes you both should be happy. 85 MPH at under 3K with 4.10's. That's awesome! Can't wait for the pics.
  14. My 2015 F150 handles my trailer very well. But I put brakes on both axles, and they work great. Plus, the truck has sway control built in. So all in all it is better to tow with than Big Blue. However, I really ought to put air bags on it as the rear does sag some when the trailer is loaded.
  15. Steve - A CO2 bottle? How big are they? How heavy? Jim - A SCUBA tank, with oxygen? That is interesting. It looks like the tanks go for ~$100 used to maybe $250 new. But where do you get them filled? I didn't find anything in Tulsa. And, what kind of a regulator? That would be a serious step-down in pressure.
  16. Yes! PLEASE! Their 10 Gal. 2.5 HP 125 PSI Oil Lube Air Compressor. And the real question is what the dimensions of the tank are. Ideally I'm looking for a tank that is 8" in diameter and no more than 37" long. But we aren't likely to find one that is a perfect fit. So, if you could measure tanks on their compressors that are sort of close it might be a big help. THANK YOU! And speaking of a perfect fit, there's a chance that I could get the guy that is supposed to build my rear bumper/spare tire carrier to make the tank to fit. He'd already said he could make the rear bumper into an air tank, but after discussing it here and making many holes in the bumper itself during the design I decided to not use the bumper that way. However, a piece of tubing with the ends welded up, fittings welded on, and brackets added might be easy for them to make. So, two 8" pieces of tubing, one 37" long and one 27" long, would yield 8 and 6 gallons respectively. Hmmmm......
  17. I actually don't know what pattern it is! Good question, I'll check tomorrow. Somewhere there's a micro-analysis of trailers from back when I was shopping for one. I'd realized that every time I borrowed a trailer I had to fix it before either using it or returning it: The trailer I borrowed to bring Brownie home threw tread on two of the four tires, but waited until I got back to my driveway to do it. So I replaced the two tires. And it didn't have a spare. I learned from that and swore I'd never take a trailer out again w/o a spare, so when I borrowed my neighbor's trailer I added a spare. Then I got the invitation to come get Big Blue, and Brandon said he had the right trailer for it, but it "needed a little wiring". Turns out it had been in a grass fire and it didn't have any wiring - to the lights nor to the brakes. And two of the four brake magnets were dead. So I completely rewired it, including new lights as the original ones dripped like Inspector Clouseau's nose. And, I re-packed the wheel bearings. That set me to wondering what it would cost to have my own. A bit of research told me that a used trailer in good shape sells for about 75% of a new one. And I'd already spent more than that on other's trailers. But a bit more research determined that there are (IIRC) 3500 lb axles, 5500 lb axles, and 7000 lb axles. It was pretty obvious that two 3500 lb axles weren't going to be enough when I was playing with vehicles that weigh ~6000 lbs and the trailer weighs at least 2000 lbs. Ahh! Maybe 5500 lb axles will do? And, they will if you get the load centered over the axles. But, you are supposed to have ~10% tongue weight, which means the load has to be biased forward, so it would be very easy to overload the front tires/axle. Given that, I went with 7000 lb axles. The trailer cost very little more than it would have with lighter axles, and I have the peace of mind that I'm not likely to overload it. And when towing through the night, as we did bringing Big Blue back, that is huge.
  18. That should be E4TZ 9A758-D, and it only fits 1984 - 87 trucks with the Holley 4180C carb, meaning the 351HO and the 460.
  19. It had been sitting in a barn, which is in da hollar, for many years. But this thread, which started on March 13th, 2018, was a result of my being asked to come and get the 1960 C10 and take it up to the paint/body man. However, that truck was guarding the door to the barn and we knew once it was gone so would be the Malibu. So we moved the truck, aired up the Malibu's tires, winched it up on the trailer, and took it into town and put it in a storage facility. Therefore it has only been about 16 months since it rolled, and it rolled nicely. Given that I'm thinking it'll be easy to winch it up on the trailer, cinch it down, and head home. But something is bound to go wrong, so I'm trying to think ahead and have the right tools with which to right the wrong. As for the trailer's spare, it is on a six-lug wheel and is a substantial tire. Way bigger than the little Malibu would take. The axles are 7000 lb units, so each tire is capable of about what the Malibu weighs.
  20. Got a bit done towards the trip. Pulled the winch, auxiliary battery, and associated wiring off Big Blue. And I installed the winch on the trailer and plugged the cable into it that'll connect to the battery. And speaking of the battery, it is on the trickle charger so it'll be hot. Charged up the air tank and will also take a small AC-powered compressor just in case. Got the ratchet straps, chains, and boomers out of Big Blue and put them in the tote. Also pulled the Craftsman toolbox out of Big Blue's tool box and ensured it has a full set of tools in it. And I added the big battery-powered impact so we can easily change tires and wheels. Also included the floor jack and will have a bottle jack for the trailer. Plus the 4-way. And some of those tanned hides. Anyone have suggestions?
  21. There he is! So, how much oil is the system supposed to have? What happens if you have too much? Is your system working properly now?
  22. With that monster spare in the middle of the bed it is hard to get a sheet of anything in. I still need to get that bumper built. But placing the tank under the toolbox would prevent closing the 'gate with a sheet in there.
