  1. I mainly use Eastwood's powder, but I have a bunch of Sherwin Williams black that I got when I bought the oven from a guy that was getting out of the business. And Brandon/Bruno2 bought some Powder By The Pound and we've used it. As for gasoline, it will take the sheen off gloss powder, and may soften powder if left on for a while. But I still use it on intakes. However, I don't run Holleys, which always seem to leak gas for me, so I don't have much gas on the intake.
  2. Yes, Jim said it. But, he also said I have the later calipers, which may be bigger. The rotors are slightly bigger, so maybe the calipers, or more correctly the pistons are. Anyway, I'm gonna give the F450 setup a try. Some day. After I win the RSK battle and get a short block 460 and install the heads and intake. And, and, and....
  3. Jonathan - That's good info and interesting speculation. I got the whole F450 hydroboost setup with master cylinder and pedal, so will give that a try. But I'll hang on to the HD pedal so I can go to a smaller master cylinder if needed. However, Big Blue will have F350 front calipers. Are those any bigger than those on 250's? (I guess I could go look, but...)
  4. Well, if that's a complement I thank you. So it is my fault that you are into powder coating? Seriously though, isn't it fun!?!? Parts come out looking beautiful.
  5. Thanks for the explanation, Pete. I did know about the unibody trucks, but didn't know that that they then changed to a mismatched cab and bed. Cool!
  6. Yes, I'm pretty sure you'll need the adapter unless the intake you are getting is for a spreadbore, and I don't think there is one. Anyway, I'm anxious to see the Q-Jet on the Windsor. I put one on a 390 that made a huge difference on that engine.
  7. That's basically my plan, but I'm not sure the radiator supports are that strong so I'm planning to bolt to the bumper holes. I think I have some channel and 3' of that will give me quite a bit of leverage. I'll probably put a large ratchet strap from the other frame to the top of the channel so I have some control. Start twisting and see where the holes go. Well, another step forward and another "opportunity" in Conoco-speak. But first, to follow up on a question Erik asked yesterday. My measurements show the sleeve should be .100" longer to get full engagement in the spring hanger. Here's a shot showing it coming almost exactly half way through: And now for a plug for Erik at Sky. He's so good to work with. Yes, there are some issue, but this is one of the first Bullnose trucks this kit has been installed on. And he's eager to find out what the problems are and change the kit to resolve them. So don't take the fact that there are issues as saying you shouldn't do this. Erik is going to get this fixed. For sure! Now for the step forward. The plan to use a 3' lever on the bumper bolt holes got the shackle bolts very close to coming through the inside. But while I could move them up and down with the come-along, they were just too far to the rear to come through. I called Erik at Sky and we agreed that the best approach would be to enlarge the holes in the frame and shackle where the sleeve goes through to allow the sleeve to pivot a bit. So I took about 1/16" off the front of the holes on the inside, and another 1/16" off the outside holes at the back. And that allowed the bolts to go through. Here's a shot of the lever and the come-along that allowed the passenger's side bolt to go in, and you can see the bolt sticking through. Ok, now it was time to move to the next step in the instructions: measure from the center of the factory rear shackle's eye to the eye on the front bracket and rotate it on the frame until it is at 55 1/2". But as shown below, all I got was 54 1/2", And while there's still 3/16" between the upper left corner of the flange and the radiator support bracket, the math says that that will only get me 9/16" at the bolt hole. So I called Erik again, and we came up with this plan: trim the flange enough to allow it to rotate and get the full 55 1/2". And if that causes a problem elsewhere we'll deal with that then. My math says it'll take trimming 3/16", but we shall see. But, I can already see two spots where we'll have a bit of trouble. In the pic on the left you can just see the frame box through the hole, and when the flange rotates there will be more interference. So the frame box will need to be trimmed. And in the pic on the right you can just see the frame box through the upper rear hole so it'll get trimmed as well. Anyway, we are making progress! And what is it Jim says about progress?
  8. Usually if you open the pic file in some editing software, many of which are free for even phones and tablets, and then save it the editing s/w will re-orient the pic. But, sometimes it won't let you save it w/o doing something to it. Otherwise it thinks it is already saved so why should I do that. But I don't know about the rear seat area of a Supercab so can't comment on that.
  9. The "9034" is the generic part number. And every filler neck, officially Pipe Assy (Fuel Tank Filler), for every Ford vehicle ever built anywhere in the world will have its filler neck listed as a 9034. But, it is the prefix and suffix that are needed to differentiate between, say, a 1950 Ford sedan built in the US and a 1990 Ford truck built in Europe. If you go to Fuel Systems/Fuel System Part Numbers/Fuel Filler Pipes you'll see that the Bullnose ones are something like E0TZ 9034-C. The "E" in the prefix means the 1980 decade, and the "0" means the first year of the decade. In other words, that part was engineered and/or first used in 1980. And the "C" means it isn't A nor B nor D nor...., with each change in letter of the suffix meaning the part is different. Perhaps it is a slight revision and will fit and/or work, or perhaps it is a part that doesn't even look the same and certainly won't fit. And we don't have any way of knowing that by just looking at the catalog. As for the later ones, I've read that the later fuel filler systems will allow the gas to be pumped in at a much higher rate. And since Big Blue is both thirsty and shy about allowing gas to be pumped in, I need to explore what the differences are. But, at this point I can't tell you if it is just the filler neck or the hoses, or the combo. Perhaps someone else can enlighten us?
  10. I doubt it. This seems to have been going on for some time, and he Scott just joined.
  11. Kind of like I've done with Big Blue's Transformation and the Sky's Offroad Design Super Duty RSK Install thread. Both are about the same truck, but the Sky thread will have the details on that aspect, although it will also be mentioned in the Transformation thread. No right or wrong. Just preference.
  12. Just some nifty family history, you know? I started doing the genealogy thing a few years ago when my other grandmother was turning 100 and we realized we wouldn't have her around much longer as a source of information. Between Ancestry.com and 23andMe I was able to confirm a few things (the connection to George Kimball (although there wasn't any real question there), as well as the fact that *his* grandfather died of smallpox at Valley Forge) and refute a few others - my great-grandmother wasn't a half-Indian by a mystery Cherokee (I'm whiter than Elizabeth Warren), nor are we descended from the Clark half of Lewis & Clark. Fun stuff! Interesting that you had the Clark rumor. I'm supposedly descended from Lewis of that expedition, but there's also the rumor that we have William Clark in the lineage as well. As far as I know that has never been established.
  13. I'm happy to oversee the sale of those, Steve. Put a price on them and I'll put them on the table. Thanks. But we will miss you. Again.
  14. Doesn't matter to me, but let's see what the others say. Sometimes new threads get more attention. But then a thread on your truck keeps it all together. So I think it is up to you.
  15. Paul - Which one are you bringing to the show? Put your father's truck on a trailer and tow it with the diesel? Anyway, what's this about "right bed" and "wrong bed"? I know nothing about those trucks.
  16. Someday Gary, someday! Hopefully in 2020 when I have some more creature comforts in the truck like AC and CC...lol. Hey, looks like you just hit the 2000th post in this thread! Cool! I hadn't noticed that. Thanks for pointing it out. And it looks like it is our most viewed and most commented on thread. (Some folders, like the eBay & Craigslist Finds folder, are getting the most views, but they are folders with many threads in them.)
  17. Just a reminder that the 2019 installment of the Garagemahal Show & Swap Meet is one month from today. I know that several of you have that well and truly on your radars as you are planning to drive many miles to be here. So for the rest of you, get going on your preparations and join the crowd! I can't wait to meet you. Let's make this the biggest and best one yet!
  18. I, too, did a fair piece of the CA coast in a Ford truck. But that was our '72 F250 w/a 9 1/2' self-contained camper on the back. Really enjoyed that trip. Cory - Hope you get to do it!
  19. I may have one, but just need to make sure I know what he's looking for.
  20. You are really making excellent progress, Cory! I'm jealous! I take two steps forward and one back. You just keep on going forward.
  21. That's basically my plan, but I'm not sure the radiator supports are that strong so I'm planning to bolt to the bumper holes. 22. Well, you do have roots! And, a long drive ahead of you. I do see why you are preparing. However, Dad's truck went to Delware and back with nary a problem, so I'm confident yours can as well. The Osage Casino/Hotel has rooms and is quite close. If you are interested there's a discount with the code they gave me.
