Total sense.

What do you intend to drop in?
The 300 from your other Flareside?

Yes eventually the whole drive train from 80 will get swapped over.  For now need to get truck running well and safe. So Cam can drive her, while we clean and upgrade other drive train...in my twisted head it all makes sense

Carb is really only thing holding this truck back.  If you are careful with it it’s all good.  That’s not good enough for a new driver

Re: Project Ferdinand

not much progress this weekend,  we got hit with a nor'easter on Thursday so as you can imagine focus was on snow removal...but made progress, in the way of assembling parts and prepping for Christmas break thrash fest.....onto the pictures: pulled motor in one of my simplicity tractors (bad oil ring), adjusted valves on my street rod project and a teaser of what Santa dropped off early for the f100

Your boy's Flareside must have been very good this year!

Not every truck gets presents under the tree.  😉

Some times all it takes is a bunch of new parts to fuel the excitement and then a whole lot gets done.  Looks like there are plenty of parts to cause lots of excitement!

Good progress!  And, as Jim says, progress is good!

And the truck is looking good as well.  But how does one faux patina a body panel to match the rest?  I'm curious.

Re: Project Ferdinand

nlongo33
not a great video but i think you will get the jist

essentially paint techniques where you mimic what the sun does by layering paint and removing it in deliberate steps to look aged and weathered with out looking "painted"

if done right looks really kind of cool in my opinion.....if done wrong looks like a poorly done highschool art project

Thanks!  I've watched some parts of them and skipped through when I saw how they were doing it to get to the end.  But there are apparently several different approaches.  Good to know.

Re: Project Ferdinand

nlongo33
yup  there is real no right way, cool thing about my buddy doing it is he has technology to match the paints,,,,, and it only cost me parts that were taking up space....i just think the patina the truck has is cooler than clean paint... like tow mater from cars says it (patina) tells a story

Re: Project Ferdinand

nlongo33
newer old shoes for the ole girl, to replace the 30+ year old tires and rusty wheels that were made to look good in pictures  but were only good for short test drives...

now rides soooo much smoother...go figure lol.....

Truck:
4" suspension lift Rough country

Tires:
35x12.5x17 toyo mts off my dodge (gave the boy a good deal on them) have about 15k on them just breaking in...i love toyos

Wheels:
17x8.5 4.5bs 0 mm off set 5 on 5-1/2 Vision 398 Manx.....Nice wheel for roughly 139 a wheel delivered
(eventually wheel will be painted Wimbledon White and bead lock will be left black)

truck heads to body shop tomorrow new hood and that primer fender is going to be patina to match rest of the truck.....
