300 I6 Carburetor spacer

to be honest though, Brutus probably uses the larger shoes like Dave has. I really dont remember, back some years ago when the parts truck was running the roads i did a back brake job on it, once it became a parts truck and money got tight,

Brutus needed a back brake job so we just pulled everything off the parts truck

but for both sets of brakes, hardware, wheel cylinders and drums are the same, just a slightly larger shoe, and i mean slightly

I did a brake job on the back of my truck last year and mine were like that with the lining on both shoes being virtually identical. It does stop much better now as the old wheel cylinders were completely seized and non functional.

Frank, you have the smaller brakes. Funny thing. like i said above, i really dont remember if i had the larger ones or the ones i have now, but for a long long time Brutus just didn't have good brakes. Brakes is not our strong suit, but i had a friend do it for me, he is the one who took the brakes off the parts truck and put them on Brutus. He didn't do a very good job and Brutus still didn't have good brakes. Once we finally got it done correctly, he stops like he did when new. Never really could figure out the reason the 2 different sizes that are offered on our trucks is less then 1/8th of an inch different, using the same hardware, cylinders and drums. only difference i see is the lining of 1 shoe is larger area

IIRC the one pictured (flare side) is the large brakes with the 5 x 5.5 bolt pattern non-power brakes.

My parts truck (long bed style side) had the smaller brakes and 5 x 4.5 bolt pattern power brakes.

Both of my trucks are 1981 F100, same weight of 4700 GVWR, both 300 six, both 9" rears different ratios, and stick transmissions - parts a SROD mine a T18.

I don't think I have seen shoes with linings that close in how long they are, most are like mine.

My truck is the 6100 lb GVWR and has the larger 11" DRUMS WITH 11" X 2.31" brake shoes. I would imagine the difference in the rear brake drum and shoe sizes would be the GVWR of the truck. The trucks with the smaller bolt pattern, 5x4.5, was found on the F100's built between 1980-1983. F100's built during that time also came with the normal 5x5.5 as well. The trucks with that colt pattern had the lightest GVWR and the smallest brakes, think passenger car brakes not only on the rear but on the front brake pads also.

There are 2 different brake shoes that fit Brutus . Both using 11 inch drums, they are interchangable. The shoes are either 11 x 2.31 or 11 x 2.26. Hardware and wheel cylinders are the same for both sizes. It is the 11 x 2.31 that has the larger shoe area. The ones you see in my pic are the 11x2.26. It took me a while to refresh my memory. My truck did come with the larger brakes. Some years ago when the parts truck went off the road and became a parts truck, i had just done a brake job on it, it used the smaller 11 x 2.26 shoes. since it was a brand new brake job and Brutus needed back brakes, i went ahead and put them on and they work just fine. Some years later i busted a rear seal and rear end oil got all over everything so everything had to be changed. When i went to the store to get the brakes, i got the larger ones and for some reason i had a moment so to speak and forgot i put the smaller ones on and returned them and got a new set of the smaller ones. the only real difference in the brakes is the shoe area on 1 of the shoes, it is longer. The smaller ones that i am using the shoe area is in fact the same size on both sides. The next brake job will have the larger brakes that are supposed to be on there, but we are not pulling or hauling so i'm not worried about it. The main difference like what was stated above is the gvwr of the truck, but both are interchangable

Be mindful to cut or replace the drums when you go back to wider shoes, or the track these ones will have worn is going to rip the edges right off the new ones.

most definatly Jim. Again, is some times good to hoard. I have a brand new set of drums in the shed. When i did the brake job on the parts truck, on the way home, the transmission went out and the truck was parked

funny thing, it wasn't until i joind you guys did i find out that i did in fact have a transmission that would have worked, although it did work out for the best as my old truck is what was able to get Brutus back running the roads again.

When the trans went out, ( mazda 5 speed ) was about the time i started with the forums. I think i mentioned this a while ago in a post about why i like the Bullnose forum so much, and i think it was Gary that told me the trans would bolt up.

The original question was I have an 88 f150 with a 300. I have a c4 trans from a 351M, and a FMX from a 302. Will any of them bolt up to my engine.

All my responses were " I would put an aod"

it wasn't until years later Nick stumbled on the bullnose forum. he told me i found this really cool forum that i think you will like. I told him i'd look into it, and i never did.

I had way to many hastles on many forums and was thinking, this isn't going to be any different. Some time later i decided to just go ahead and look. Now here i am.

I was in a few groups on facebook as well that i got out of because of snide comments and just total rudness.

The only thing about this spacer is I am thinking it won’t cover the EGR port in the intake manifold. That’s why the Ford one has the “ear” on non-EGR applications. It’s not pretty, but on one of my engines I tapped the hole and put an Allen head pipe plug sealed with silicone. The factory spacer is the cleanest, but everyone wants one which drives up the price.
