  1. Well...I think I told a fib...for some reason or another I thought I had replaced the entire top row of indicators with LED's. I did not. I only replaced the turn signal indicators. Now that I think of it, I specifically remember that they were so dim I could not see them at all during the day. They are great now. And, they actually have different LED's than I remember installing. I have 4-5 packs of them here, and the one I used are pictured below...if I recall correctly, I tried a few different ones and liked these the best. I guess all of the others were plenty bright with the old style bulbs. I did replace them all, but they were just regular bulbs. The LED's...sorry no info, just Ebay stuff. Pack of 10, so I have lots of spares. They seem to be lasting fine though as I haven't had to replace them yet, and it's been a couple years for sure. The whole thing at night is well illuminated.
  2. Glad to hear that all is well Ray! Keep us posted on how it all goes, please. If I can ever get across the US border again, and make my way out towards Gary's I'll make sure to pass through Kentucky and I'll bring you a fender for that Flareside!
  3. I can tell you for the top row of indicators I went with the LED's that only point straight out...does that make sense? Pretty sure they were bright white also. I might have some here that I could take pictures of, but I don't remember what brand they are. Ebay stuff, for sure.
  4. It would be the same as yours Jim, full turkey dinner. We just celebrate it a month or so earlier, and while it is a big holiday in Canada, it's not as big a holiday as it is in the US. I think some bigger family gatherings will have a turkey and a ham on the go, but usually it's just a turkey. Over in Newfoundland, they blend a traditional turkey dinner together with their own local boiled dinner...or Jiggs' Dinner as they call it...with salt beef or corned beef and cabbage, with extra salt!...lol. Do you guys usually have dumplings as well? My stepfather used to call them "Dough Boys", ha! I haven't had them in years.
  5. I would say that very few trucks have the idiot lights, and when they do, it is not one of the bulbs that you can change anyway. I installed all LED's across the top indicators on mine (and in the gauges as well) and I quite like them. Been standing up just fine so far.
  6. What in the heck are you guys talking about? Thanksgiving was a month ago...lol. Just kidding. Happy Thanksgiving to my online American Bullnose friends. Eat, drink, and be merry. Hope you all enjoy.
  7. Haha, Max no problem of course go ahead and sell it. Your new Tachometer is pure excellence! Very nice job sir.
  8. Haha, I knew what you meant I guess it just doesn’t bother me since I don’t really use their website very often. I assumed the reason for that was less to do with a clunky website and more to do with them wanting market information. I find there is a lot of crossover between LMC and RockAuto. I would never order regular wear items from LMC like brakes and clutches etc. However I have ordered a lot of Bullnose items from them. Most recently a battery tray plus the bracket between the fender apron and core support, a set of chrome bumper bolts, and a throttle cable. I usually check RockAuto first and then get other Bullnose specific items from LMC that are usually only available from the classic truck shops.
  9. Gary, All good points. RockAuto search menu is the same way...you have to pick the engine before you can select what other parts you need. However, I never use the LMC website either...not really. I pick what I want out of the print catalog, and then just log in and order online. That's one of the reasons I like LMC...I look forward to the catalog arriving in the mail the same a way a kid (used to) look for the Sears Christmas catalog...lol. I know you guys have more options than I do. I only ordered from JBG once, and the shipping was very expensive. I have since heard from others that they've declined to ship to Canada, but I can't confirm that personally. LMC and RockAuto are my two go-to Bullnose parts sellers, and while they both get some bad press from time to time, I've been pretty happy with both of them.
  10. Just wanted to give a follow-up good rating for LMC. I have been pretty happy with them all along, and I just placed another order with them recently for a box of various items. They mistakenly sent me a 1965-1972 heater core in place of the 300i6 throttle cable I had ordered. I called them up and explained what I had found in my box. The gal was very nice and she told me to simply keep the heater core as return shipping internationally wasn't worth the trouble. (I gave it away locally to a guy that needed it). Anyway, I had the correct 300 throttle cable in the mail within a week which is pretty good for international service. I have to give them a thumbs up for their service here. It was great.
  11. Fwiw, I have a set of the aftermarket door handles installed on my '84 (from LMC) and I'm pretty happy with them. Will they stand up as long as the originals? No idea. The chrome on my originals was starting to get pitted and peel, so I wanted a fresh new set to go with my new paint job. The truck lives indoors now and doesn't get driven all that much (compared to a daily driver in the weather) so the handles will likely last forever at this rate. One thing to note is that the new handles came with studs (I think) instead of bolts (for inside the door). The body shop that installed them said they reused the hardware from the original Ford handles because the studs wouldn't work as well as the bolts (or something like that).
  12. Thanks gentlemen, Oh, I forgot to tell you guys something I discovered with this truck. I knew that there were a couple rust holes in the firewall when I bought it. Turns out there were more like four rust holes in the firewall, but anyway...rust is always worse than what you can actually see. There was some rust in the seam just above the heater box, and the cowl trough was full of leaves...and I mean full, like there was a blanket of leaves in there. This truck had been sitting for years. Anyway, I cleaned all of the leaves out and shop vac'd the trough and scraped all the corners and edges clean, etc. The seam in the cowl trough was never sealed. I was certain that after I removed the leaves I was going to find terrible rust holes, but it was actually in really nice condition in there...but no seam sealer, and no evidence that there ever was any. I assume it is because this is an early truck? Built in Sept or Oct of 1979...maybe they missed a few of the early ones at the Canadian plant? Who knows. I just checked my 84, and it has a fat bead of seam sealer all along this seam in the trough.
  13. Figures. Everything rusts and breaks off up here...lol. I'll get something geared up for it, not really a big deal. Just one more thing to weld...lol. Hello Gentlemen, Still slaving away on the crusty old 1980. I had ordered a whole bunch of parts in preparation for the Christmas break...hoping I can try to start the thing by then, but time will tell. I'm going in for some surgery on Tuesday, which is nothing too serious, but it will put me out of commission for a while, so I put a push on this weekend to tidy up a few loose ends, and organized a parts list I'll need for later in December. Not much left to order now...but I still need a fuel pump, fuel line, clutch master and hydraulic line, thermostat, air filter, plugs and oil filter, etc. Odds and ends. All of the old style radiators seem to be out of stock everywhere (and they're expensive too), so I did a little bit of research and wasn't I pleased to find a write-up right here on the Garagemahal about swapping the later style radiator in place of the old style. THANKS FOR THE SAVED DOCUMENTATION GARY!! So...a friend of mine has a nice used 300i6 radiator I'm going to use, and my core support will require minimal modifications. ANYWAY.... Do you remember me talking about the broken lower stud for the front forward shock? Interesting...I bought a cheap set of Gabriels, and the forward shocks actually came with new front lower mounts, which is cool. I'll just cut the old one off and drill the bracket to accept the new mount. Sometimes you get a good roll of the dice. So I got the four new front shocks installed, and I finished welding the Bullnose horns onto the 1995 frame. Cleaned up my welds, and then put some fresh black paint on. I'm going to leave the bumper off until I get the finders and liners all installed, etc. I seam sealed the firewall around the repairs I made, and re-installed the heater core box. I ordered a new heater core, but the one that arrived was not exactly the same, and therefore did not fit. This truck has the HO heater, and the core has a hard rubber casing that fits around it, and it would not fit the replacement so it got returned. The old one looked OK so I stuck it back in anyway. NBD, but I wanted to change it while I had the heater box removed from the firewall. Oddly, while on the topic of heater cores, I received one by mistake in a parts shipment from LMC. It was one digit off from the 300i6 throttle cable I had ordered. There's good news and bad...LMC was very good about it, and they said the heater core was not worth the trouble to return internationally, so they told me to keep it. I posted it for free on a local forum and it was gone in a couple days (it fit 1965-1972 Ford trucks). The bad...the gal I spoke to said that they were showing only one throttle cable in-stock, and if they could not find it that they were backordered for 5 weeks. Gross. Anyway, that's fine. I know enough guys around here I can find a 300 throttle cable I can use should I be ready to fire this old girl up at Christmas (that's the plan). Not much else to say really...it feels like it's getting somewhere, but still so far to go... I did my best to clean-up the welds and seams where I grafted the Bullnose bumper horns on there. I'll spary some rustproofing over them as well. Hopefully they won't be an issue when it's time to road safety this thing. Technically the mechanic could complain about these, but I don't think they will. Oh, and I bought a used set of 15x10 ProComp aluminum wheels for it. They were along my path on a work trip last week and I figured I'd grab them. They'll be the nicest things on the whole truck..haha. Funny thing, the wheels had recently been removed from a nice little Flareside that I had seen for sale online locally weeks before. That's the news for today! Now I'm off to cut some trees down in the back yard for Mrs. Rembrant!

    Front Axle Beam

Does this truck have the stamped steel beams? I could see somebody damaging one of them...maybe. The forged steel beams though...they are pretty indestructible, I can’t image how they would damage one. If it’s a case of the bushing failing and then the hole in the beam becoming elongated from bouncing around on the bolt, I suppose that is possible, but it would take a while and I would think that it would be awful to drive like that. Curious to hear the outcome on this one.
  15. Welcome aboard Andrew. Beautiful area you live in. I've spent a lot of time motorcycling in western NC. A group of us used to do the Blue Ridge Parkway every year, and then spend a few nights in SW NC tearing up the mountain roads...Cherohala Skyway, Tail of the Dragon, etc. Absolutely lovely area. I'm jealous.
  16. Thanks for the feedback Jonathan. I just received my Chinese YF copy carb from Amazon yesterday. Seems like a nice enough piece to look at, and the packaging was very good. Came with 3 gaskets that I haven't even looked at yet. I ordered the Dorman manual choke from RockAuto (for $9 bucks) with some other stuff last night. I'm probably a month or more away from trying to start it, but I put a bit of a push on ordering parts last week and this week since deliveries leading up to Christmas will be crazier this year compared to others.
  17. Hi John, I never post my truck because there's already a zillion pictures of my truck on here and I was lucky enough to win a prize in Gary's online truck show. I didn't want to be clogging things up with more pictures when there are plenty of others that need to be showcased. However, I'm all for posting pics in a Gallery of some sort. That would be easy enough.
  18. Thanks David, I will do the same thing then as I plan to install a manual choke. Can you recommend a manual choke kit that works well with this carb or should I just order whatever generic kit I can find easily?
  19. They do work very well. I use mine all the time. They work best with an exit for the incoming air, like having the sliding rear window cracked open a bit.
  20. Oh, my bad...I just watched the video...If it's actually coming out of the vents then yes that duck bill is blocked, and the whole cavity must be full in there. I just cleaned this area out on my 1980 today and there was a big pile of leaves in there.
  21. You can't see the fender through these vents on either side. The area those vents open to is boxed in, like an internal channel in the cab. If you CAN actually see the fender through there, then something is wrong. I'd look closely at the bottom of the cowl trough. Look down through the cowl vents around the wipers. It's common for the trough floor to rust, and there's a bead of seam sealer in there that dries and cracks after a while. Get somebody to hold the hose outside the cab while you look to see where it's coming in.
  22. I use the main search on the forum once in a while which I guess is the Nabble one? I was not aware of the others to be honest until you pointed them out.
