  1. Holy heck, what a rat's nest of pipes...lol!
  2. I have an 8.8 with 3.08 gears in my '84 2wd. The ring and pinion in mine are nice and tight but the spider gears have a little bit of slop in them. As far as I know, the 8.8 cover was sealed with RTV, but I've only taken apart two of them so I can't speak for all years. You can buy a gasket for them...it is under $10 at the autoparts shops, but it is paper thin and will need RTV anyway. The only other thing I have to add is to make sure you get the fill plug out before you remove the cover.
  3. Oh... See, that red paint would bother me more than the sections of the frame being cut...lol. Not that I dislike red, but I hate it when people paint things weird colors like that.
  4. Gary, I'm certainly no help, but I noticed in that first picture there is an aftermarket bolt. Were the engine perches changed at some time? The cuts don't look natural...but I have no idea.
  5. Ha! Ain't that the truth Dave! I've been thinking this all along...I'm spending so much time and money on this bed and it's still just an old beater of a truck...haha. Oh well, I can't complain about being bored!
  6. Cool. So this goes in place of the factory tail section(s)? I didn't watch the video...
  7. Finally throwing in the towel for the day, and my "new" bedsides are finished...well, as finished as they're getting in my garage. Dropping the tail gate off to be blasted tomorrow, and then I'm taking all the pieces to a shop this week to be painted. So I assembled the bed again (upside down) and mounted the tailgate, tail light brackets, and step brackets. I massaged the mounting flange a bit and then had to square up all of the fender mounting holes, drill a few more, and grind all my welds down. I'm done with these things. Since the bed is upside down here, this is the front left corner that is closest in the picture. Just wanted to give a shout out to Jonathan for sending me that nice step bracket! My original had rusted through and broken off at some point, and had been patched previously. I hope to have it on the truck in a week or two...but things have been moving pretty slow...
  8. I checked the stroke on this engine this morning just to confirm that it hadn't already been converted to a 300 at some point in 50 years, and it is indeed a 240. Not that I doubted it, but good to check it anyway. Not doing much else with it at the moment but waiting. I'm supposed to be getting a damaged 1980 300 sometime soon and hope to scavenge the crank, rods, and other accessories from it.
  9. My truck's original 300ci & the '95 4.9L are here: So is the difference between the 240 and 300, or are the two different locations just a generational thing? You can see on my picture above the dipstick is up close to the fuel pump. Was the 300 like that at one time as well? I assume it makes no difference otherwise and has no effect on anything else?
  10. While on the topic of doors and weatherstrip, do any of you have any recommendations on complete kits to buy? Has anybody tried any of the kits available on Ebay? https://www.ebay.com/itm/1980-1986-Ford-F150-F250-F350-Pickup-Truck-Complete-Weatherstrip-Kit-Chrome-Trim/254179400050?hash=item3b2e45d972:g:lAAAAOSwExtcm6FQ https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fairchild-Industries-Belt-Weatherstrip-Window-Channel-Door-Seal-Kit-KF1006-13/223328872772?fits=Make%3AFord&epid=251046394&hash=item33ff702944:g:eZsAAOSwbjNcP6vQ Etc... My trucks needs new door and window seals, and I'd like to get it all in one kit if possible. I'd love to hear what kits are good or a recommendation on what kit(s) to buy.
  11. Understood Steve. I'll toss it out. I just like to check before doing so;).
  12. Found this below on Ebay. I guess they're not worth much...lol. Off to the scrap bin with it... https://www.ebay.ca/itm/NOS-DISTRIBUTOR-VACUUM-ADVANCE-CONTROL-1968-FORD-CARS-WITH-240-ENGINE-68/372569838028?hash=item56bee491cc:g:ldQAAOSwZddb43hQ&vxp=mtr
  13. Gentlemen, Anybody want to educate me and tell me what this little gadget is? It came with the 240 I just dragged home. Would have been on a 1970 F100.
  14. I see the dipstick is in a different location as well. Is the 300 in the pan? I made a deal with a guy that is pulling a "shot" 300 out of a Bullnose. I'm hoping to use the crank and rods from that engine as well as the intake, exhaust, etc, etc. Both are very cheap so I'll have a running 300 for much less than rebuilding the trashy 302 that was in this truck:).
  15. No sir, I'm all good right now for parts...I think! I have a whole second truck now, it's just that in it's current state it looks like piles of rusty parts...lol. Building the truck is going to be a slow process... A slight change in direction with the '85 project truck... The 302 is gone, and it has been replaced with this: This is an old 240 that has been for sale down the road from me for quite a long time. I had been ignoring it mostly, but Jonathan pointed out that it can be easily converted to a 300, so that is the current plan. Stay tuned for more updates on this soon...
  16. What mods are required? Can you simply install the 1987-up pan?
  17. So if it's a "take off"... I wonder what they replaced it with?...lol.
  18. So what's the deal with camshaft upgrades for the 300L6? I see RockAuto has Heavy Duty/Towing camshaft options... https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ford,1980,f-100,4.9l+300cid+l6,1120475,engine,camshaft,5260 Do most people just run the stock cams in them with the upgraded intakes and exhausts?
  19. I would have to remove those mirrors in the seller's driveway...lol. I could not have that truck sitting on my property with those;).
  20. That's because it's kilometers. The miles still stops at about 85.
  21. I can rarely ever find any usable parts or fasteners at the Junkyard, so I'll buy automotive bolts from the autoparts stores if I'm replacing something that is visible and I want to retain the flanged hex head look. If the bolts are hidden I'll use regular hex bolts. My truck is mostly all metric with the exception of the 302 and some of the chassis parts and pieces.
  22. Hey Gary, I wonder if the 1980-83 is referencing the F100 models? By the way, I was looking at the front section of the frame on a 1980 F100 recently and the C-channel looked like it was lighter and narrower to me. Did they have a lighter frame or was it just my eyes playing tricks on me?
  23. I wouldn't be in a big rush to pull the front of the engine off. I know the timing chains can get really...REALLY sloppy, but your issues only showed up after you were messing with the timing and firing order. There was another guy on here struggling with an ill running 351 for 2 months and he finally found out the darn thing had a 302 cam in it: http://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Ferdinand-85-Bronco-351W-XLT-Phoenix-rebuild-project-tp14538p20678.html Get the engine back to where it was before you made the changes, and then go from there.
