  1. I actually like these trucks...I think because of the rareness of them...a one year wonder, and the very last year of the old style Flareside bed, as he mentioned in the ad. Has the original style strips in the bed too. The only odd thing...and somebody can correct me if I'm wrong, is the 5spd. That must have been swapped in. I thought that the M5OD 5spd trans didn't show up until 1988. The 87's were still 4spds, no? Still, nice lookin' old truck.
  2. That's a good deal compared to buying the new aftermarket parts. They'd be cheaper in a junkyard of course, but A LOT of work to remove....well...here in the land of rust at least.
  3. I've owned two of them. I had both a Sprint and a Tiger, both 1050 triples. They sounded really cool, and unlike anything else.
  4. I'm still rocking the original 40amp 1G as well...and it's all my trucks needs...and it never gets driven anyway...lol, but I will switch up to the 3G when an alternator is required. Painless offers a harness for this swap don't they? https://www.painlessperformance.com/wc/30831 Finding a decent usable harness in a junkyard here is a real stretch....finding anything usable in a junkyard here is a real stretch.
  5. Glasspacks probably aren't too harsh on the 300/6 are they? I honestly haven't heard a glasspack in years. I really wanted to run Flowmaster 40 series, but they were just not cooperating with me and my old F150. The drone in the cab was just too much. I can't remember if it was Gary that convinced me or not...maybe it was just a coincidence but the shop that installed my duals sold Magnaflows, and I've really grown to like the sound of them, and I've gotten lots of compliments on the sound of the truck. I would actually like some more sound out of the truck, but I'd have to put some work into sound proofing the cab before doing so...project for another winter I suppose;).
  6. Oh...and for another idea if you haven't done anything with it yet, this is what I did to the engine bay end of the column. I removed the shift levers (two on my 3-on-the-tree, but only one on an auto column). To cover the hole I had a small piece of sheet metal curved to fit the column snugly, and then I stuck a couple pop rivets in it on the under side where they can't be seen. Painted it black, and now you can't even tell...it just looks like a floor shift column. I wanted it sealed up for appearance mostly...but also so that dirt and debris didn't enter through that hole and get into the lower column bearing.
  7. Pete, The other thing you can do is to remove the automatic shifter collar, remove the shifter handle (Well, you have to do this anyway to remove the collar). Cut the shifter lug off the collar, and then fill in the hole. I did this with a 3-on-the-tree collar, and it's the same as the auto shifter really. I filled the hole full of Quik Steel putty...but anything would work....body fill even? I finished off filling the hole with JB weld and then just sanded it smooth and painted it satin black. This is the stuff I used... https://www.autozone.com/sealants-glues-adhesives-and-tape/epoxy-compound/quik-steel-steel-reinforced-epoxy-putty/515416_0
  8. Pete, I grabbed one of these pieces at the Junkyard a while back for the exact same reason. Well...sort the of the same reason...I went from 3-on-the-tree to 5spd on the floor. Thought I'd post up some pics so that others knew what you were looking for. It's a plastic trim ring that is held to the steering column with three tiny little sheet metal screws that are about 1/4" long.
  9. I'm familiar with these since I rebuilt my 3-on-the-tree manual when I first got the truck. You can see the old spacer here when I took mine apart... And you can see the new one installed here between the two shifter arms. I believe there are two spacers in there if I recall correctly.
  10. I specifically asked RedHead about fluid recommendations, and if I remember correctly I think they told me to use Dextron 3 (Or that is what they use). I have a brand new RedHead box laying on the bench still in the USPS box. I was going to try the BlueTop box, but in my case I was waiting for one of their sales...usually Thanksgiving or Christmas, and every time Bluetop was out of stock on the Ford boxes. That blue sure looks pretty. Can wait to hear how she works!
  11. How difficult are these things to remove? I have to take the AOD indicator out of the '85 cab soon. Do I pull the cluster first or the column first, or what? Has anybody done it before?
  12. Ahh, OK. That explains it then. If you look up the pressure hose for a 1994 (for example) it shows the style in your diagram above with the Teflon seal. It must have changed in 1992? The pump/hose in my 1984 and the 85 both have the O-ring seal like in my first picture above (Both Ford, and aftermarket).
  13. One section of the image Steve posted above shows a Teflon seal on the "Tube nut", but that looks like a different set-up that what the regular pumps have... I know on mine, the tube sticks out from the end of the nut and it has an O-Ring on it. There's no Teflon seal...not on the tube nut at least (On my truck). Mine looks like this one above, with an O-ring groove in the end of the tube. No Teflon. This isn't shown on Steve's image above. Unless Steve explains it differently.
  14. I hear ya Steve. I swapped in a 5spd so I had no choice, but my truck being a 1984 it already had a hydraulic clutch anyway. I know there are some mechanical linkage clutch fans out there (I'm talking to you Dave!!), but me personally, I'd rip that linkage out of there faster than you could say hydraulic swap! I picked up a hydraulic clutch pedal assembly from a 1986 at the Junkyard last year. It will go in a project truck or it will simply be a spare. I would have also grabbed the hydraulic bellhousing but it was already gone.
  15. Did you see where the turbo was on that truck?... And a 2.75:1 rear diff...I bet that's something you don't see at the drag strip every day;).
  16. Is anybody on here familiar with the Trailer Park Boys? I'm not sure if it's on anymore or not, but it was originally filmed here not far from where I live. Anyway...I often have Youtube music playing in the Background when I'm working on my laptop, and I had the song The Darkest One by the Tragically Hip playing today. I hadn't seen the video in a dozen years or so but I had to chuckle when the engine they went to steal was out of a Bullnose. Anyway, just for a chuckle is all. It's a cute video...with lots of "CanCon". PS: Warning for foul language at the beginning.
  17. The Dupli-Color rattle cans come in the Ford engine colors and work well. My 302 was done in the darker blue and it looks good.
  18. If you see a Bullnose with the newer style mirrors on it, then they almost always have the new doors as well. I haven't seen one lately, but if you see one like that and they have pictures from the rear of the truck, you can usually see the doors sticking out a little bit. It's one of those things that annoys me...lol.
  19. You can spot them on Craigslist every now and then...the doors will be closed, but the lower rear corners will be sticking out a little bit.
  20. That kinda looks like it belongs there.
  21. I've seen these before,...maybe they were more common up here in Canada?
  22. Dragged home the 300 parts engine today. Not sure yet what will be usable...maybe nothing. It had a rather rough removal unfortunately...so a bunch of the external stuff is smashed up. Hoping that the crank and rods are OK to swap into the 240. More to come...disassembly this weekend I think... And I won't be needing this little doodad...if anybody needs or wants it for a spare let me know and I'll stick it in the mail. The truck was supposed to be fairly low mileage...something like 50k.
  23. 6 ft here also and I'm comfortable with the bench all the way back against the cab.
