  1. Here's a pic below of Rick's engine bay....or is it Lucille's engine bay?. I have two of these air cleaners now myself and just got new correct (finally!!) decals for them recently. How is the drivers side flex hose connected to the core support? Is there a left handed version? I played around with a spare one that I have but it's angled the wrong way to sneak around the radiator on that side.
  2. Glad this thread exists :) Getting my truck painted and have been contemplating going with the full styleside body/bed kit. I really wish they had the indented hex heads as I am not sure how good plain hex heads will look. They do have the button head bolts but also not sure on that look. I spoke to a lady there today (very helpful) and was told that the bolts were equivalent to grade 2 (I believe this is standard for common stainless besides arp stuff). I figure that will work just fine for most things but I did have some concern for the hood hinges, door jambs, and tailgates hinge bolts. I know the tailgate hinge bolts are a 9.8 (~grade 5). Not sure if there would be any concern there with downgrading the strength. I've put a lot of thought into this the past couple of days as it's a fair chunk of change for arguably, aesthetics. Would be glad to hear any thoughts/opinions.
  3. Interesting! Kind of funny but since that was the truck I grew up in I always that it was the norm and buckets were the oddity. In fact, it wasn't until my dad saw my 86 parts truck this weekend (with buckets) that he finally believed me that the ones in Camano (86 driver) weren't a swap/aftermarket :) Also a little interesting to me at least is that the split bench has the release levers at the top on the sides of the seat rather than that triangular piece you see at the bottom of benches in regular cabs.
  4. The two 86's I have are bucket but my dad's 84 XL Diesel is a split bench - both sides fold up. I think it's a bit easier to get in the back with because you can grab the top of the folded bench as opposed to the buckets being up at the visor. But you do lose some foot space getting in since you have to deal with the corner of the bench so probably a toss up.
  5. Good question. Is that because of the front wheels that are on it, or something else? I was thinking 84 was too early for a 350 dually 4x4 but that may just be for pickups and not c&c trucks. Or I could be completely wrong. I only really ever look at 86 c&c trucks anymore due to the D60 and my 80 and 85 are 2wd. Regardless, it looks like it would be a nice work truck to have.
  6. Would have to either have duals added to single hub or a swapped rear axle, right? Edit: removed 'spacers' since that is going the other way.
  7. Funny timing. I just happened to go into the 'big truck' section of the jy today and had the exact same thought when I saw the under-column switch cluster. My hope was to modify it to hold my brake controller. Glad I ran across these posts but a shame that it isn't bolt-on.
  8. I saw a photo of a truck where the ower had an a/c cluster bezel in a non-ac truck. What he did was install some switches in place of the vents. Thought it was a clever idea. Numerous possibilities with it - switches cubbies speakers gauges (numbered) (my favorite) If you have access to a 3d printer you could probably make it look seamless.
  9. Anyone have any experience with 'A.B.S Private Brand'? New 81 truck came into the jy today with a full set of these letters. No pitting but all had bad hairline spiderwebs in them.
  10. Search for the wire colors on this & the NEXT several pages: https://supermotors.net/getfile/1067186/thumbnail/wirecolsdg.jpg Ford was pretty good about using the same colors for a given circuit function regardless of year or model. For example: all simple horn power wires are DB (dark blue), and are circuit #1 (apparently the first electrical device Ford ever put on any vehicle). But obviously, there are far more circuits than color combinations, so there will be MANY functions for any wire's color(s). So when you have a multi-wire connector, look up several of its colors, and you should notice some relationship among a few of the definitions, which will help you narrow-down the system or component that the connector belongs to. You can then look up that system on a wiring diagram to find out if you've got the right purpose for the connector. That means it's an "inline" connector; a connector between wiring harness sections, as opposed to a connector from the harness to a component. So there may be several systems passing through 1 connector. There is an EVTM cell that lists all the harness sections (just by number, which makes it nearly useless) & attached connectors, but not all EVTMs contain that cell, and I don't remember its number offhand. It's a high number, near the end of the manual. This is a generic diagram for vacuum cruise: https://supermotors.net/getfile/494370/thumbnail/cruisevacuum92circuit.jpg That list by colors will be handy. Thanks!
  11. When I was searching for a truck all over the US on Craigslist I saw at least 3 F250 dually trucks. I also thought it was odd but wasn't looking for a dually so never inquired about their specs. They all were nice trucks though. All two tone and pretty well optioned. Like the horse bumper sticker on that one, they all struck me as rodeo circuit type trucks. I agree - does seem odd for a Centurion like company to do something like this.
  12. The 'not available with' list cracks me up. Wonder what secondary door seals look like.
  13. Thanks to both of you. Will take me awhile to figure out how they've got those diagrams put together. Seeing the Body Marker Lamps With Trailer on one side and the Body Marker Lamps With Dual Rear Wheels as an either or situation is confusing in the diagram at the top but it is what makes sense with the RH/LH front/rear notations in relation to the dually fenders. Glad you pointed that out Bill. I saw that after I took the photo but forgot to see what it was. I am so used to the barebones flatbed 1 tons that all of this extra stuff is new to me. Since you have an 86 460 would you be able to see if you have the v8 Black Box on yours? Or I guess it would have been removed when you converted it (if it was there to begin with)?
  14. Ran into an issue (may start a new thread for it) but looks like #2 is for sure the body marker lamps circuit. The white w/red stripe looks to go into this relay (photo below) which matches the diagram (http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/exterior-lamps.html). The Trailer Lamps Relay Terminals diagram cutout shows the same 5 wires that are shown in the photo below. I've stared at that diagram a long time and it's finally making some sense. I see the plug location at C915 in the bottom left and it showing the white+bk combining matches the plug. My understanding is that the whole mess of lights in the middle of diagram is IF something was plugged into the #2 plug in question. That 'something' being the wiring and the Marker Lamps Relay. The part that was really throwing me was that I didn't notice C915 is in the middle top (below the 'funnel bracket') and at the bottom left. Once I mentally combined those two points into one plug it was more clear. So there are 3 lamp circuits with 7 bulbs: RH side body, LH side body, and Rear. As was mentioned earlier, the DRW's have front and back fender lights which match the diagram for RH and LH side with their front/rear notation. They also have the under tailgate lights (rear circuit). Can stylesides also have RH and LH side lights and rear lights as a factory option (like a camper special setup)? The diagram seems to indicate that they can unless I am misreading the 'funnel bracket' part.
  15. Welcome! Any photos? I am a fan of the Ranger emblems combined with the Ford letters on the hood.
  16. I'll check that out (http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/trailer-option.html)
  17. https://www.ebay.com/itm/1980-1986-Ford-Truck-Diesel-No-Trip-Dash-Instrument-Cluster-White-Face-Gauges/401144332924?_trkparms=aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160908105057%26meid%3D41f7eb5e174d4121a435d43e6e09663c%26pid%3D100675%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D15%26sd%3D232349491609%26itm%3D401144332924&_trksid=p2481888.c100675.m4236&_trkparms=pageci%3A98c9417a-ffc0-11e8-aa11-74dbd180edf4%7Cparentrq%3Aada1ed221670aa11adc94891ffeee50c%7Ciid%3A1 Never heard of adhesive faces
  18. #2 is underhood under the brake booster. The connector is in a harness that comes through the firewall above the cable management sleeve that is mounted above the brake distributing/proportioning valve. Hard to see from the photos but it's actually a 3 wire connector with what appears to be black, white, and white w/red stripe. I need to get on a stool to lean closer to it and see if the black and white go into the same terminal (only saying that based on their proximity in the photo). The C915 was based on viewing the connectors in the right hand drawing here: http://www.garysgaragemahal.com/trailer-option1.html Not positive it's that one - it just appeared to be the most likely choice. This evening I can try to match wire colors under the dash and maybe do some continuity checking.
  19. Ah, I was misreading the 'always hot' part of the diagram. Will have to keep an eye out for anyone that has that #2 connector plugged in to see what additional lights they have.
  20. Sounds good to me (although I'd really like a bullnose dedicated book :) ). Happy to provide any photos or numbers that I can get off of the trucks/parts I have available.
  21. Thanks guys! That puts the #3 ground wire to rest. I don't have cab roof clearance lights - yet. The lights are on their way actually and I'll be pulling the harness from the 83 parts truck once weather warms up. That Exterior Lamps diagram does seem to indicate that's what the #2 plug is for as the wires on the plug look to be black, white, and white w/red stripe. Wonder what it's calling 'Body Marker Lamps with Trailer'. The wording just seems a little odd to be referring to trailing running lights. Guess I could check and see if the plug is always hot or not. So on a dually are the rear fender lights always on when the truck is running?
  22. By elimination I would say that #2 is C915 in the drawing. Not seeing where that goes or what it does on that page at least but haven't looked through all of the EVTM pages yet to see if it comes back into a picture/diagram. Update: looks like that box under the dash on the 86 with a bunch of wires in the photo is the speed control. So maybe I just missed seeing the 'v8 Black Box' under there. From FTE (NumberDummy old post)- the 'v8 Black Box' on the 85's is the Emission Throttle Positioner Control Actuator Assy. Both the 85's did originally have the smog setup (since removed) but so does the 86 (everything is still hooked up) so not really sure why the 86 wouldn't have it.
  23. Ok, so did some floorboard gymnastics and found out at least a couple things. One being that taking photos in the pitch dark actually generates pretty clear photos... Good idea on the clock connection. Looks like it's on the passenger side of the hump but took a photo of the clock harness anyways for posterity (this is the end of the short clock jumper harness that plugs into the main harness): #1. Didn't find it on my 80 400 but on both of the 85 460 trucks that connector is connected and goes into the 'v8 Black Box'. Or at least some of the wires on it do: The box on the 86 is a completely different animal and apparently doesn't use/need that connector. Now I am dying to know what the differences are here in the boxes and wiring. #2. I am sure it's part of the trailer package but really not sure what it matches with yet in Gary's photos. Tried to get a better photo but not sure I did since my hand takes up half of it: #3. I do have the firewall ground to engine cable (looks like it's going to the intake manifold on this one) and this unknown ground is actually a Y leg of that same cable:
  24. No or at least not that I found there. It was high level Ford vehicles through the years. Had some neat brochure pics of the 80's trucks but not the nitty gritty details that I'd like to see in a dedicated one.
