It has been two days since I posted on here and this thread was on the second page. Things are hopping on the forum! Anyway, very little is happening directly to Big Blue. I'm cleaning the shop so I have room to work and a place to put the headers. And the cleaning is ...... badly needed and taking time. But, the package from Scotty came in today. So, what are your questions? I'm sure you have some.

  9. I don't think you want to run both. If the truck runs on the add-on pump I'd use it and get the wiring to it set up so the inertia switch and oil pressure switch are being used correctly.
  10. Congrat's!!!! On the throttle cable, if the issue is too much slack before the throttle starts moving, I've cut the bracket in half, played with it until I got the right amount of slack, vice gripped it together, and then welded it up.
  11. LOL! Yes, you are absolutely right. "The destination", singular, is the goal. (I was actually a fairly good student of English, and am a big fan of the Oxford comma. But my use of English isn't the best.) So far the poll says: Bullnosebible: 6 Garysgaragemahal: 1 Other: 1 That could all change, but that's the trend at the moment.
  12. If the issue is the speed of fill then you need to switch to the later style filler tube. The Bullnose fillers run gas down the outside and vent air back up the little hose in the middle. But the later ones put the gas down the middle and air up the outside. They are said to be much better though I have yet to change over. Others have, so maybe they'll be along to comment.
  13. Taking the sender out is a pain, but if the tank is truly EMPTY it isn't too hard. But if it has some in it the sloshing can make it unwieldy. However, there's not a lot to see if you take it out, so how will you know if it works? The previous owner probably put the extra pump on for a reason - like the one in the tank is probably bad. So if you want to keep it, then maybe all you need to do is to put the safeties back in place and run the pump with them. And you may be able to pull the wiring for the pump out of the 4-pin connector so the sender still works. Does the truck run ok on the new pump?

  15. I don't know the sizes but can probably get them for you tomorrow as I have a C6 I can measure if no one else knows the sizes. But I don't know which is out and which is in. As for the cooler in the radiator, it must do something or Ford wouldn't have put it on there. So I'd put my extra cooler after the radiator cooler. Knock the temp down a bit with the one in the radiator and then more with the extra one.

  17. This sounds so similar to another that's currently being worked. You might want to read through this thread: http://forum.garysgaragemahal.com/Misfire-wont-smog-test-Need-some-advice-td56255.html as it might have some info for you. Having said that, if you have a manual switch to turn the pump on then you have a ticking time bomb. If you get into an accident the pump will keep on pumping. So, if it was my truck I'd put it back essentially stock. In fact, I did just that. Big Blue was badly butchered in this area and I had to reconstruct it, so I'm familiar with this area and issue. The wiring diagrams are here: Documentation/Electrical/EVTM/1986 EVTM and then Electric Fuel Pump Control. The diagram for a single tank is shown below. The key is the oil pressure switch and the inertia switch. Those need to be controlling the pump. But that doesn't mean you have to ditch your pump. You could keep it, but just control it with those two safety items. Having said that, do you know if you have an electric pump in the tank? If so, is it good?

First, on the spelling of the URL both garysgaragemahal and bullnoseenthusiats are hard to spell. Trust me, I've spelled the former many, many times and people struggle with it. And I've now typed the latter several times and the double "e" doesn't seem right - but is. So bullnosebible is much easier. And I personally think "bullnosebible" conveys the sentiment for me. That suggests that it is "the" place to go to for information on these trucks, just like the Bible is on life. As for it being a great site, I'll agree wholeheartedly that it is made possible by the countless contributions by all. (That's a "summation" of what you said.) Last, you are right that the "goal is to make the website the best resource for bullnose trucks, and this includes *how* to access to the information."
  19. I second this. Yipes! That is EXPENSIVE! But, if you have to have it....
  20. I think your edit puts you on a reasonable path. And, this isn't a "go fast" part. The truck isn't going to go any faster with either tank. So go with a stockish setup and put your money where it will matter. Well I managed to source a new fuel tank from Rock Auto; $78 shipped. That was a deciding factory in itself, even though I'm still working out the plumbing I've got a pretty good idea how I want to lay it out. You are right that the cell isn't really racey My only thing is that if I get this thing fast enough is that the track is going to want me to have one per IHRA rule. It's not there yet but I am already dabbling into helmet/shaft loop territory. Looking at these fittings, they do make a 3/8 tube to -6an hose adapter, and the only modification I need to make to my sending unit is trimming off the end of the tube where the flare is so that the fitting can slide over it. Inside it uses a brass compression sleeve. I'm not a fan of using compression fittings on brakes, but in a low pressure system I believe it will be fine (6-7psi). The only thing I am working out now is how/where to put a 1/8 npt fuel pressure gauge somewhere in that circuit. That's a good price, for sure. As for the fitting, if you are using a mechanical pump, like I think you are, then there's actually vacuum and not pressure at the sending unit.
  21. Assuming the question is for the nut holding the steering wheel on (not the nut holding the steering wheel ), according to our page at Documentation/Interior/Steering Columns it is 30 - 42 lb-ft.

We are much better at getting the correct answer paired up with your questions if we know the details about the truck.
