  1. I wasn't in the house so Janey didn't hear me laughing.
  2. I think tucked behind that Warn bumper it would get lots of attention when it lights off.
  3. Part of that was due to the need to check that the centering yoke has a grease fitting. Apparently there are two different ones. And another message exchange was to check that the caps are 1.062" OD. Then there was the exchange 'cause their site said the centering yoke was out of stock, even though they said they had them. Finally when I ordered it said the 5-213x greaseable u-joints were out of stock so I ordered the non-greaseable ones. And along the way I checked with Amazon and they say that's the wrong centering yoke. We shall see. :nabble_anim_crazy:EDIT: Just got this email: On a different note (), I ran across this El Toro "electric bull horn" today in the stuff I got from Vernon when I acquired Big Blue. So I thought I'd see what it is like. It is MUCH louder in real life than it is in the video. This thing will get your attention. What'cha think?
  4. Trailer brake controller, would the 81 truck also have them I don't remember seeing that plug, have to go look, but also was not looking for it when I installed the harness or is that part of the trailer tow harness? It would be nice but I just wonder what the wires are? Power in, brake light feed, ground? Power out, blue normally, would be a heavy gauge wire to the rear of the truck. edit I got to read the post before I start typing now to go look over that page Dave ---- Part of the trailer option. Power in, power out to the brakes, and power out to the trailer brake lights.
  5. Thanks, Rob. I did make some progress today. After 11 messages back and forth with tech@dennysdriveshaft.com I finally got these parts on order: Part of that was due to the need to check that the centering yoke has a grease fitting. EDIT: Just got this email:
  6. If someone gets the dimensions I'll add them to the page. Big Blue's spot on the windshield is centered 4" down from the metal trim piece and 29 3/4 from the driver's side plastic trim and 29 1/2 from the passenger's side trim. But it looks like it was re-glued at some time as it is sloppy, so those may not be factory measurements.
  7. I think that would be a good idea Gary. Three topics for every month: nominations, poll, winner... Otherwise I think this thread could fall off the first page quickly and the whole thing could die out again. Also, what about carrying over previous nominations? So a picture stays in the field until it wins for a year or the calendar year? Rob - I think the carry-over is a good idea. But where should I pin it? In the main section or the TOM folder? All - Do you agree with the carry-over? What about pinning?
  8. This older retired guy has never said "Let me Google that for you" or "Have you used the forum search feature?" Its you younger guys talking about that.
  9. You guys are spot-on. One thing that frustrated me in the early days on FTE was the repetitious questions. New guy pops up just to ask "that" question. No research and we didn't have any documentation to point him to, so we answered the same question time after time. That's when I started documenting things, although the first effort was via the stickies but that was just opinions and/or links, and then the photo albums until FTE irreparably broke them and refused to acknowledge it. So I built the website, which is not subject to the changing rules of someone else. And my vow was that if I was going to answer a question from Ford's documentation I'd put it on the site before answering it. Which is how we have so much documentation. (Quick aside: On one of the FB pages a guy said "I want whatever book Gary is using." A book? Try maybe 100?) So now I can usually answer the question via a link to Ford's documentation. Yesterday's question was about towing. Seemingly hundreds of people answered with their opinions, many of which were wrong. Easy peasy - Documentation/Specifications/Towing. Go argue with Ford if you want to argue. But, to the issue of policing. There are four admins, all of which have a good understanding of what is meant by "obscenities" in the guidelines. And there are plenty of you regulars that know as well. So why do I have to read everything to ensure it is up to snuff? You are empowered to correct the person. And if you don't want to then tell me. Many of you have my phone # and can call or text. Let's make this a community watch zone. I usually don't address the situation on-line, but send the offender a private email asking that the post be edited. As for people not caring about the guidelines, they won't be members very long if they don't. We aren't trying for as many members as we can possibly have. We are going for a group of people who follow the guidelines and enjoy helping each other. You've surely seen the many instances where someone is chomping at the bit to ask his burning question and doesn't follow the emailed directions to go to the New Member Start Here folder, read the guidelines, and then post an introduction in that folder. Sorry, but there were instructions in that email. They aren't like traffic lanes in Rome, a "suggestion". They are instructions. If you won't follow them then it isn't likely you'll follow the guidelines. So I'm asking all of you to help me police things. If you see something that I would probably think bad then bring it to my attention. I'll address it. That's why I earn the big bucks.
  10. Yes, something like Tyvek would work well. And it is reinforced. We had a house with a porch on the north side that was essentially enclosed but they didn't put the windows in. I decided that for the winter I'd enclose it with clear plastic and stapled the plastic to the wood. Didn't last long at all. But by placing lathe strips over it and stapling through it the plastic lasted much longer.
  11. Since the poll is still open, let's get back to the idea of us having a Facebook page for a mo. The votes are currently 10 against having one and 3 for, so it seems pretty well decided unless there's a landslide of votes in the next 5 days before the poll closes. One idea of having a Facebook page was to help get the word out about our documentation. And just to give you an idea how significant getting the word out can be, Bill/85lebaront2 brought the statement on the left to my attention yesterday. It was an announcement made on the Bullnose Ford Truck Group (80-86) and included a blurb about this website. And take a look at a snippet from our metrics (Documentation/Metrics) for yesterday, shown on the right. I'm not saying we need to have a Facebook page. Instead I've come to the conclusion that the best way to help the other Bullnose enthusiasts is to get the word out about the information we have via the existing Facebook pages. That page has 14.2K users. Another has 40.9K. And so on. In other words, let's enjoy what we have here on the forum but take every opportunity to let others know about the info available.
  12. Looks great!!!! As for the oil, Pennzoil isn't my favorite. Scotty told me to use something like Brad Penn Break-In Oil if I remember correctly. I need to nail that down so will call him today to get a good list.
  13. I like the clear idea. But, I've not seen any clear that has reinforcement in it like the blue has. So you can't just staple it on as it'll rip. Been there, done that. You'd need to staple a light strip on the top of the plastic to spread the load or it'll tear at the staples. Or, perhaps screw a light strip on? That would be easier to remove and replace when/if the time comes.
  14. That's pretty much where I thought the clearances would come in. Much better to be on the edge of desirable than on the outside edge of acceptable.
  15. That's true, it is. And then you'd say?
  16. The 1986 EVTM (Documentation/Electrical/EVTM/1986 EVTM in the menu has the page below, as well as a schematic for every circuit on your truck and many diagrams showing connectors, locations, etc. But the covers did get tossed. Hopefully someone has one. As for the plug, I'm pretty sure that is C1101 that goes to the trailer brake controller. Go to the Trailer Option pages in the '86 EVTM and see if the colors don't match what you have.
  17. Two more layers of the onion removed. Gonna have a Boomin' Onion soon!
  18. Keep your day job. Ok, see what you think, although you might have to hit refresh for your browser to see the new page.
  19. We don't have the table in the documentation. Should we? As for being painted, since I think the ones on the trucks were all black, or at least all I've seen, I doubt many were painted.
  20. Technically there were two, with the main difference being the width - 10" vs 12". But the replacement for the 10" unit was from the Aerostar.
  21. That's a cool project, Pete. I recognize the car from having read about the rallys when we lived in the UK in the 80's. But that is quite an undertaking. As for the SHO engine, that's a good choice. They are potent. But, if you get an offer from our member ctubutis to drive it don't let him. He blew his brother's SHO up! However, last I knew he had one running in his Taurus and another one stashed away.
  22. David - So sorry to see you've had those problems!!! Glad you in the land of the living, and getting to not only drive your truck but also to work on it. Not sure what to say about the brake lines. Hope you get them sorted soon. WELCOME BACK!!!!
