  1. I had 4 different ammeters on the bench to test. I hooked my lab power supply up with a DVM measuring voltage and another measuring current. On gauge #1 when the voltage got to .125v in the positive direction the gauge was at full scale and pulling .75 amps. And when I reversed the voltage the gauge was at full scale at .147v and was pulling .88A. As for the shunt, the largest alternator the Bullnose trucks came with could put out 70A from what I read, although Jim and I've debated this and he's pointed out that there were 100A 1G alternators available. But most of the documentation I have suggests 70A was the max used in the pickups & Broncos and, if so, the shunt was probably sized for that. I probably have an intact shunt around here some place and ought to run a test some day to see how hot it gets at various amounts of current and we'd know - for that one shunt. But my here's some math: P = I * V so let's assume the shunt is sized such that it'll drop .132v (the average of my 8 full-scale readings) @ 70A and you have 9.27 watts. So if you put in a 130A 3G alternator you'll see 18 watts in a piece of wire maybe a foot long?
  2. Well, you mentioned $20K, and Vivek said spending money on trucks has kept him from doing really stupid things (implying spending money on trucks is just slightly stupid), and Jeff replied that the money spent doesn't seem to show up in the sale cost, and ... I said I figured out what I'd spent on BB in order to get insurance, and Jeff.... So, it was your fault by tossing a rabbit on the stage and we just chased it.
  3. There is a solution to the backwards reading on the fuel gauge - MeterMatch. It supposedly converts any sender to any gauge, but I'm using one to convert a 96 sender to a Bullnose gauge. Works great.
  4. There are two different packages - Discourse and Discord. From Wikipedia: Discourse is an open source Internet forum system. Features include threading, categorization and tagging of discussions, configurable access control, live updates, expanding link previews, infinite scrolling, and real-time notifications. Discord is an instant messaging and VoIP social platform which allows communication through voice calls, video calls, text messaging, and media and files. But Discourse also allows direct messaging, as do many of the packages we are looking at. So I don't think we will need Discord - assuming I understand what it is. And I did have the young lady whose Charger we were painting show me how she uses Discord. It looked like direct/private messaging mixed with almost a forum layout. There was some structure with threads on some topics, but also a lot of one-on-one messaging.
  5. Looking good, Vivek. As for testing the ammeter, Jim is right that it just sees the voltage drop across the shunt, which is pretty small. Here's the result of testing I did on 4 different Bullnose ammeters to swing them to full scale in each direction as well as the calculated resistance of the meter itself:
  6. Fortunately it isn't. I found last night this statement: "XenForo can be made to look like your website and integrate seamlessly." And there was further discussion, not discourse, on how to do that. But, there's a downside - as Jeff pointed out there are some tools that help migrate from Nabble to Discourse, but don't appear to be to Xenforo. However, over the last few days I've been helping a guy from church paint the rear bumper on his daughter's Charger, and during that time I explained what we are trying to do regarding the forum. So he explained what he used to do - ETL, which he said stands for Extract Transform Load, which is exactly what we need to move the Nabble forum's data to a new forum. And he'd like to take that project on, assuming we can find the format of whatever platform we choose to use. So far I've not found anyone who says they know how to migrate from Nabble to Xenforo, but there are plenty who say they migrate from other platforms to Xenforo. So apparently the Xenforo format is a known entity. But as of this writing we've not given up on Discourse yet. That may happen later today though.
  7. Are you saying that you think the EVTM is wrong? That is certainly possible and I've made notes in cases where we've found that. But if you just have a Bronco harness in an F-series that's not an error in the EVTM. So I just need to understand what you are saying.
  8. Greetings, Stein! Eddie is looking good! I took the liberty of rotating your pic, not your tires. But the wheels look good. My go-to for gaskets is Fel-Pro. Don't know anything about Cometic, sorry.
  9. Don't be surprised if you get a call from the side of the road.
  10. All of these are in the 85 EVTM: There's a P/LB wire on Page 27 running from the ignition module to the distributor. And on Pg 141 going from the speed control amplifier to the speed control server There's a P/LG wire on Pg 123 going from the driver's tailgate window switch to the tailgate window switch on a Bronco. C124 is shown on pages 5, 10, 21, 63, 70, 73, 80, 81, 82, 98, 103, 123, & 124 C127 is shown on pages 6, 7, 10, 14, 98, 99, 102, 104, 105, 106, 110, 116, & 134. Hope that helps.
  11. Well done! I'll bet that works very well.
  12. Man, that looks like WORK! But you are making progress and, as Jim says, progress is good!
  13. Yikes! I can only imagine! Those balancers are heavy, and spinning at 6500 R's would make them very dangerous.
  14. Hey, I'm not the one saying Keep It Simple, Stupid. I agree with you that it is lots easier to tune the EFI to 14.9 AFR with BE than to swap jets on an AFB. (Yes, I know that swapping rods is easy, but there is only so much you can do with rods before needing to swap jets.) And the AFR stays where it is supposed to be instead of leaning out as you ease into it before the rods pop up. And vacuum modulators are frequently the issue, not just on C6's or 727s, but on a Powerglides as well. I remember so well when I was at K-State and came down with mono during finals. A buddy drove my 58 Belaire to Newton where my mother took over. But it wasn't shifting right and she wanted to know why. "Vacuum modulator, Mom. I'll change it out when I get over this crud." So I'm happy with the tech I/we've installed. Just need to move on to Dad's truck and pick your brain on the E4OD setup. Maybe even clone your tune but tell it I have a 400 instead of a 460.
  15. Wonderfulllllll!!!! Congratulations! That is such a good feeling!
  16. Here's your pic. You have to use the Insert Image button above. And do you want me to move it to the Projects section?
  17. Welcome!!! Let's see some pics. Maybe even start a thread on your truck and track the progress? And, do you want to be on the map? You can see it at Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu. And why poking around you might read the FAQ's @ Bullnose Forum/Forum FAQ's to see about posting pics.
  18. No, it hasn't come through. That part of this platform doesn't work. But you can just email me at janeyandgary@gmail.com.
  19. I think you can pull through an EFI pump, but I've not tried it. However, the plug you are talking about has both power to the pump as well as the signal to the fuel gauge. So if you unplug it you won't have a working gauge. The schematic below shows how that should have originally been wired, so you could remove the BR/W wire on the front tank and/or the R wire on the rear tank to keep from providing power to the pump and still have the gauge.
  20. Let's see, EFI with MAF & SEFI are KISS when compared to a carb? An E4OD is simpler than a C6? I think it is too late for KISS on Big Blue.
  21. As Jim said, welcome and no. But let us know how things go. We'd like to follow along on another adventure.
  22. Yes, I'm home after church and the luncheon that followed. And I ate too much. Anyway, glad you joined. And Jim is right about the map, we can put you on with a city or zip. I'm curious to see where you are as I've been on Lake Powell several times, so know something about Page and that area. As for support, we may take you up on that. Heretofore I've paid all the fees, which don't amount to a lot. But if we go to another forum platform then there will be a cost and it will probably be time for me to ask for help for the whole thing.
