  1. Welcome! But, please go to the New Members Start Here folder, read the guidelines, and then click the New Topic button to introduce yourself and your truck. We ask that before getting into details about your truck just to ensure you have had a chance to read the guidelines. Or, I can move this thread to the NMSH folder if you'd wish as it is a good intro - just assure us you've seen the guidelines. Where's home? We have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and would be happy to add you to it if we had a city or zip. Welcome!
  2. That plan will probably work fine. But if the first one doesn't work I'd rethink it before going much farther. As for the adhesive, I think any adhesive works better on rough rather than smooth items. The texture gives it more to hold to. But I don't really know that much about the various adhesives.
  3. I think I agree that it is mislabeled as there isn't an E2TZ 7228-D in the MPC.
  4. That looks like a LOT of progress. Not only did you get several things done, you figured out how to bend the fender neatly. Well done! But with as thin as some of that metal may be you may have some problems welding it to the 4x4. You said you are going to drill holes in the sheet metal and weld it through them. But I would worry that the disparity in metal thickness will make it hard to get enough heat to the 4x4 w/o vaporizing the sheet metal. Have you considered a body panel adhesive instead of welding?
  5. Congrat's on getting it going! And, I concur - that's a belt squeal.
  6. The 1990 plenum from Huck has a bolt/screw-in vacuum motor. I'll have pics later today, but I have the motor off now so I know it was screwed on.
  7. Hard to believe it would idle at 300 - 400 RPM, but probably only the 300 six would do that. However, I'd bet it would have a slight shudder. You obviously don't have a vacuum leak, and 20" of vacuum is ok, although if you get the RPM up it should be more like 21". Have you tried adjusting the idle speed up?
  8. Don't tell anybody I said this, but you're a stand up guy! Shhhhh! I won't tell anyone and hope you won't either.
  9. Steve - I wouldn't think a '90 would have a 1G. Probably a 2G, which is worse than a 1G due to the connector problem. If so, change it!
  10. Jim - That was Scott, and I just sent him a text to see if I can get the contact info for the guy. Bill - That looks exactly like the '90 plenum. But it doesn't have screws holding the two pieces together. Instead there are little pins with catches, and even when you pull the pins back the two halves don't want to come apart. It acts like the sealant is actually a glue and the pins were just there to hold things together while the glue dried. Nevertheless, the arm has to come off the door's pivot somehow as it doesn't go in at the interface between the two parts. So I'll take a closer look tomorrow to see how to get it out. There has to be a way.
  11. It won't be difficult to make a gasket for the driver's side hole in the firewall. I have a roll of adhesive-faced closed-cell foam that should make it easy, assuming it is thick enough, and I'll have to experiment a bit on that. But I like the PAM idea. That would make it fit tightly but still come apart.
  12. Well done! Looks good and obviously works well. Yes, DC is unlike RF and uses the interior of the wire. So it is best to have good wiring.
  13. Thanks, Jim. Yes, I think heat is going to have a hard time getting in there. Now I need to figure out how to get the recirculation door out so I can put new foam on it. I really want to ensure that I don't have outside air coming in since I expect to be on many dirt roads. And the foam needs to be replaced. Anyone know how to get it off? Also, I'm considering how to seal all of this back together. On the cover Ford appears to have used rope caulk, which is really sticky and might pull the aluminum tape if the cover has to be removed. So I'm wondering about placing lubrication on the two halves and then using The Right Stuff to seal it. Thoughts? Similarly, I'm thinking of using The Right Stuff to put the whole HVAC plenum on the firewall. I do have a good gasket for the passenger's side but will have to make one for the driver's side opening. Again, thoughts?
  14. Shaun - Thanks for catching that. I've now added tabs and info on the Broncos.
  15. Yes, David, it does. And as soon as the orange thread locker set up this happened: (Looks a bit .... old? Dirty?) And I finished the HVAC plenum cover. Here it is in place: And, I may or may not have gotten carried away: Yep, that was the inside of the cover, and here's the view with it in place. Two layers with a total of R6 and a reflective layer on both sides.
  16. EXCELLENT! Good job! And many thanks to Jim.
  17. Yep, we have mutts. May never win Best Of Show, but they are what we want them to be. As for what I did this morning, I was working on the HVAC plenum cover when Janey sent a text to say I had a small package in the mail. Yep, it was the inserts for the A/C bolt holes in the Saginaw bracket. Man am I glad I quit trying to make them and bought these. I had them installed in less than 2 minutes - with orange thread locker.
  18. Tonto! Welcome! Don't I know you? From FTE? Nice story. Sounds like a typical onion. Keep peeling and crying, but some day you'll have Bloomin' Onion! Where's home? We have a map (Bullnose Forum/Member's Map in the menu) and we'd be happy to add you with a city or zip.
  19. Mine looked exactly like that. Those trucks came with the infamous "widow maker" split rims, and with our 9 1/2' self-contained camper on those high profile tires flexed badly so there was lots of roll in them. I replaced the rears with billboard-wide tires and solved that problem.
  20. Looks like Darth is even more unsure of his heritage than Big Blue is. Johnny's Cadillac's got nothing on them! Shaun - What do you call your truck?
