  1. This is the first installment to tell y'all that things are going pretty well. But not perfectly. Big Blue is running like a champ save for some carburetion problems. He was doing well until we swapped metering rods today, and that made him too lean. We swapped back later but did something wrong and it was still lean. We will work on it a bit tomorrow, but towards the end of today I opened the idle screws up 1 full turn each and that helped a bunch. And, a minor problem where the passenger's front fender was just touching the door, but we've found many situations where we couldn't open the door. So we've adjusted the fender a bit and made it better, but not perfect. However, it'll do until we get it home. But other than that, my brother can't seem to say enough good about the truck. The suspension is "spot on" according to him, and it all just works well. We've taken it on some really difficult trails, and it has done extremely well. Plus, the compressor is a huge benefit. We've discovered that one minute of airing up takes a tire from 15 psi to at least 30 psi, and usually more. Yesterday we went over Ophir Pass, into Telluride, and then up over Imogene Pass back to Ouray. Ophir was easy, but Imogene had some challenging sections. Then today we took what Bob calls Engineer Mountain Road and had an interesting time. I was driving and got too close to the right hand side and the tires slipped over the edge a bit to the point it was obvious that any further attempt to power out would make matters worse. About that time another old guy in a 2020 4Runner came along and offered to help. So he went past us, around the corner, and parked above us where he could run his winch line down to my step to keep the rear of the truck from going down more. And I ran my line out to a couple of Aspen in front of the truck, and we coordinated the extraction - perfectly. Here's a shot of how we did it. And now Mike is our new best friend. He followed us all day and will be going with us tomorrow, although we aren't quite sure where that is going to be. I'll post more pics later, but here's one:
  2. Scott is a prince. I enjoy talking and working with him.
  3. That’s good to know, guys. Thanks for the review. 👍
  4. I want to thank Scott for providing me with a beautiful motorcycle license plate!
  5. Sorry! I know some Bolens, and some Nolens, and that's my excuse. Anyway, should be fixed.
  6. Sorry Mr. Bolen. Fixed it x3 and changed the gift card. Hopefully it is right now. Scott - There were LOT'S of stories, including some from Eli/Smokenchoken. (He won the "award" for the best stories. ) Grumpin - No problem. If you open a new tab I'll bet you see the 2021 Truck Show option in the Truck Show item in the menu. Since it wasn't there before, you have to refresh your browser or it won't show it.
  7. I cannot find the fitting sizes in my threads, plural, so can't answer the question about that. But on the filter, yes the steering side of the system will have by far the most flow. In fact, the brake side only flows when you are braking. So you want the filter in the steering side. On the radiator, since the hot engine coolant comes in the top and the cooler coolant comes out the bottom I'd think you'd want your power steering fluid to flow the same way - in at the top and out at the bottom. That way would seem to give you cooler fluid. Will you have a temp sensor monitoring the temp of the fluid? I ask because I wondered about using the radiator but instead just used the frame-mounted PS cooler. So I'm curious what kind of temp you'll see. However, I have nothing with which to compare, so wouldn't know if yours is cooler than mine or vice versa.
  8. Thanks for coming and bringing Robert! Was great getting to talk to both of you, and both of you were a huge help for the dinner and the show. Next year!
  9. You have to refresh your browser or you won't see it in the menu. Go to Truck Shows/2021 Truck Show. That link will get you there even if you don't refresh.
  10. The results of the 2021 show are on the page at Truck Shows/2021 Show. Oddly enough, while we only had 17 trucks entered, it didn't seem like there were fewer entrants this year. There was a whole lot of discussion between owners that made the time pass quickly. (However, it was HOT, so that did make it tough.) Bill Vose - Take a look at the first three pics taken "during the day". Ring any bells?
  11. I would suck the fluid out of the master cylinder with a turkey baster bulb. That will minimize the mess. And since I'd want all new fluid in my system that would be a good start.
  12. Not a bad truck. But depending on the transmission issue you could add another $3000 to the cost to have it rebuilt, if needed.
  13. Ken - The New Zealand approach has had a dramatically different effect on deaths than our approach here in the US. Even just here in Oklahoma our 7-day average is currently 27/day. And since our population is only 3/4ths that of yours, that 27 should really be extrapolated to 36/day. It is really hitting us hard. So I do hope that we get this thing in control, quickly. And, that you can travel here soon. As for the thread, I'd be interested in reading it. I vote that you tell us what is going on with you!
  14. If you go to the page at Documentation/Driveline/Brakes and then go to the Rear Brakes and then the Rear Brake Parts List tabs you'll see that the manual brakes are 11" and the power brakes are 10". And the manuals use Parts List #1 while the power uses Parts List #2, both of which are included on that page. Here is a snippet of Parts List #1 showing the wheel cylinders being part # D30Z 2128-A. And here is a snippet of Parts List #2 showing the wheel cylinders. Note that there are two different part numbers. The Year column says that D30Z-A is used "80/", which means 1980 to the end of the catalog, which is 1989. And then it says D2SZ-A is to be used on 1984 vehicles. So I think your truck with 11" drums should use Parts List 1, but that your wheel cylinders are the same as those in PL 2.
  15. Yes, that visor has been "modified", and w/o the spring it'll probably droop badly. But even with the spring they drooped some. The later visors fixed that nicely.
  16. That's good progress. But I'm not sure I understand about the wipers. Were you missing the linkage from one side to the other?
