  1. That is cool! Can't wait to see them on. By the way, are you going to have it together so you can drive it to the show on Sept 16th?
  2. Rick has that same trim, so he spotted it easily. So, tell me. What's the difference between these two 1985 brochure covers? The left brochure is the "early" version, dated 8/84. The one on the right is the "late" version dated 1/85.
  3. You can get the 4106 dialed in. In fact, it may be so out of the box. I won't get into the Holley vs Carterbrock wars since most people on here know my predilection. But I will say that I've seen the 1406 work well out of the box for 351's and 460's. And if adjustments need to be made they are pretty simple. Having said that, I'd pull the top and invert it to check the float levels before I installed the carb. And I'd check the bowl to make sure there's no debris in it. So easy to do on the bench. .
  4. This sounds like two steps forward and one backward. Still progress, but haltingly so. What are you going to do about the cam timing? Off which way? But it is looking like an engine, and that is PROGRESS!
  5. You don't say in your signature anything about your truck so I cannot answer the question. However, you can by looking at the info on the page at Documentation/Fuel & Air Systems/Fuel System Part Numbers/Fuel Tanks.
  6. Cool! Those may come in very handy at some point.
  7. I don't know, but I'd think that the throttle linkage, and potentially the linkage to the transmission, would be the decision maker.
  8. I'm sorry, but I turned the shop upside down today and still haven't found the separator. I will keep looking but doubt I'll find it as I have looked pretty much everywhere. If it was me I'd put fittings on your separator and then put air pressure in in a reverse fashion. In other words, I'd see if I could blow out whatever is in there. Obviously it isn't something you are going to get to dissolve.
  9. David/F150Six got over 20 MPG a few times with his F150 and the 5-speed. I think he had 3.00 gears but I don't remember for sure. He said his son's F150 got better than that with something like 2.75 gears and the 5-speed but you couldn't go into fifth in a county with a hill higher than 2'.
  10. If you have a 300 six and a 5-speed 20 MPG is obtainable.
  11. First one looks great! Second one is a bit dark, but that works well also.
  12. He's right, I've checked with old NOS rolls of tape and they not only don't stick but seem to have shrunk. But you can find the colors here: Documentation/Specifications/Tape Stripe Codes/F-Series Tape Stripe Codes.
  13. If everything is fine now then I'd leave well enough alone.
  14. Looks like everyone is making progress on their trucks. But today I just used my truck. Got to church this morning and discovered that one of our air conditioners had overflowed the drain and our auditorium was warm and humid. So we had our church service in another room and some of us went back this afternoon to determine the problem. After vacuuming up the water we blew out the drain line using the air compressor on Big Blue. Then we took the A/C system apart to see what the problem was, and that took many of the tools I carry in BB's tool box. As it turns out the drain pan is rusted through, so the pros will have to be called. But the tools on and in BB sure helped determine that.
  15. Can you show us a pic? I'm not remembering what tape that is.
  16. I've had good luck emailing them rather than calling. Anyway, we had an A/C drain leak at our church building this morning so I've spent all afternoon vacuuming up water and then troubleshooting to find that the drain pan is rusted through. Just got home and looked where the separator should be, in the 460 bin, and it wasn't. So I need to do a more thorough search and hope to do that tomorrow.
  17. Wow! That's a LOT of smoke! But those fires gave NYC and other New England towns that yellow/orangish haze as well. It is a big problem, both from the smoke but especially the fires that are still burning.
  18. Nice find. But the advert is wrong, that fits 1980 - 82, not 1980 - 84 as it says.
  19. The wire to the choke should be white with a black stripe, as shown in the schematic below from the 1986 EVTM. That wire comes from the choke relay, which is pulled in by the alternator. So as soon as the engine starts the relay should close and provide battery voltage to the choke, and that will work perfectly. And taking the ground wire to the carb mounting bolt, or even a screw on the carb, will work fine. Out of the box I think you'll be between 10 and 12 MPG, depending on how you drive. These trucks are not aerodynamic in any way, so anything about 65 MPH is causing serious drag. And with your 4.10s and no overdrive you'll be spinning the engine pretty rapidly, which doesn't help. I ran a stock 1406 on my 460 at one point and it did well, so I'm sure you'll like yours.
  20. The Bullnose calipers do not center well and the pads almost always drag on the rotors. Ford later changed the calipers so they slide better, but you are pretty well stuck with the style you have. On the rotor, measure them where they are worn. Then go to the page at Documentation/Driveline/Brakes and then the Front Brakes tab and then the Disk Brake R&R tab. There's a section of the factory shop manual there and at the very end of it should be specifications on how thin the rotor can be. If you do decide to buy new ones the Raybestos ones are the ones I'd go for. And it won't hurt to have new lug nuts, although yours don't look bad. But if you are doing that you might consider buying a whole new hub. This one from ACDelco says it comes with the wheel bearings, but I can't confirm that from the advert so it will take more research. And, that'll add a lot of weight to your shipment. Plus, it says the country of origin is China.
  21. That's a BIG bonfire! And pallets burn quite well. What time was that picture taken? As a kid I never thought of it, but the first time I visited London was in June, many years ago, and I was amazed by how much light there was late into the night. In fact I took a picture of Big Ben at 10:30 at night and it looked like full daylight. Then we actually moved to London years later and "lighting up time", the official time when a vehicle's headlights have to be turned on, was 3:40 in the afternoon in December. That's when I realized that every spot on earth gets the same amount of daylight in a year. Some get most of it in summer (those at the poles) and some have it even the whole year 'round (those at the equator).
  22. I'm doing better this morning, and have come to the conclusion it was something I ate. You can start a new thread if you want, and I can easily copy over anything I need to keep track of the part numbers. Glad you've gotten 250 miles with no bad noises. I think maybe you are out of the woods, but I'd stay with an oil that has plenty of ZDDP in it.
