  1. Thanks. But I fear we are too late as I cannot find the posting with that advert.
  2. I sent the seller a private message on FB and gave him your email address, Dan.
  3. Cory - Thanks for the clarification. My misunderstanding.
  4. At least it worked! And now you can donate it to your wife - after you put your tools back in the truck, where they belong. And about that AAA membership.....
  5. My to-do lists are continually expanding. But then, I get a kick out of ticking things off the list.
  6. MPC says: E1TZ 19590-A Grease-Automatic Hub Lock-for 4x4 vehicles with Warner Gear auto, locking hubs — 5 oz. tube. As for auto locking hubs, they did appear in 1981. And as of 2015 they still don't have them perfected.
  7. Check the belts for glazing. And potentially buy a stick of the belt dressing that is intended to make them not slip. That's cheap and won't hurt anything. But, the shrieks I've heard on A/C compressors have been the clutch. So I'd set the fast idle on the carb and run the A/C with the hood open and observe the belt/clutch/compressor crankshaft when the sound happens. If the clutch is slipping you may be able to tell, and when the engine is then shut off the clutch will probably be hot. As for a bearing in the compressor, I've not heard one do that. Those York compressors are tough and with the oil circulating in the system there shouldn't be an issue. Also, has the system been recharged lately? If so you may have too much pressure, making it hard for the clutch to get the compressor going.
  8. Negative! As much as I'd love to make a contribution to the site like that, I won't be making mechanical changes to the truck in the middle of a 2500 mile trip. I'm heading down to Texas after Oklahoma, and they have more banjos than Arkansas... David/1986F150Six has had similar responses to some significant changes that have been proposed. And I can fully understand.
  9. Yipes! YIPES! I wonder how much torque it puts out at that current as opposed to the old style starter? That 500 amps is surely stalled, and with the gear reduction it won't be stalled long.
  10. E5TZ 9275-J 85/86 F250/350 - - 6 cyl. 300 & 8 cyl. 351, non-EFI gas engines - 136.8" & 160.8" W.B. Use w/19 gal. - one tube (plastic tank) aft axle tank - includes COAF 9726-A gasket
  11. At one point the advert says it is E0TZ 16A038-B, which is for a 1980 or '81 made prior to 4/81 and is for the right hand front fender. But the picture clearly says E5TZ 1529315-A, which is for an '85/86 F350 Crew Cab left hand front fender.
  12. Well done! And, you can also do it this way: Changing C6 Pan.
  13. Back to the discussion of relays, the original starter required a big relay on the fender, which is known to fail. But the PMGR starters can get by with the little Bosch relays. However, you can leave the big relay on the fender and it'll last forever with the small amount of current being pulled. That indicates how much less current is being pulled from the battery. IIRC, Jim said 40 amps for the PMGR and Bill said 200 amps for the original starter. So the battery has to supply far less to turn the engine.
  14. You have to copy the "permalink". For the thread it is at the top right of the page. For a given post hit More and select Permalink.
  15. Well...I won't get stuck because of a bad starter at least. One potential problem down, 999 to go... I second the PMGR suggestion. OK...why? I don't know anything about PMGR starters, I thought their big appeal was a smaller diameter for tight installations? More cranking power with less current. The engine spins easier/faster and the solenoid and battery will thank you.
  16. I took Charles and Ta Da out. Not that doing so will make it easier, but it does clean it up.
  17. Seems pretty good to me. But, do you have a tach? What is the RPM?
  18. Yup. Unfortunately, when it happened I had nothing that would reach far enough down to whack the starter... ...until I was just now coming back from NAPA (for the second time today and probably fifth time this month - the counter girl likely thinks I have a crush on her) with the new starter, and remembered that looong jack handle these trucks are equipped with. So I swung by the store where the truck was, used the jack handle to beat the starter like a rented stepchild, et voila: The truck fired right up and is now safely ensconced in my garage, awaiting a dignified starter swap tomorrow. Yippee! Now you won't get stuck in banjo country. I second the PMGR suggestion.
  19. Take a screenshot? By the way, have you noted how Ford has distinctively Ford styling cues in that pickup? The dropdown in the door by the window and the taillight would be two of them.
  20. There is another way to go about this. I have a temporary page set up on the forum for Smileys. Right now it is just my holding area for smileys, and I have some in there which we are not using, as you'll see. And, there is no real organization. Plus, it is hidden in the menu. I could organize it and un-hide it. Then we could put whatever smileys in there we wanted. So, instead of clicking the Smiley button and choosing one you could open that page, right click the smiley you want, click "Copy image address", click Insert Image and then paste the URL for the smiley into the "Or copy an image from the Internet" line. And, having just added Ford's proposed emoticon, here's what happens when you do that (w/o resizing it):
