  1. The three might still be here then. But you'll still need that fourth one.
  2. Isn't that par for the course? If you take something apart you'll find other issues while in there. Or, to put it another way, it is hard to concentrate on draining the swamp when the alligators are after you.
  3. Ok, having looked at the frame spacer boxes and considered welding them to the frame at this point I've decided to wait until the new front bracket/crossmember comes in. That's because the boxes may have to be modified slightly to let the bolts pass through/past them. It'll be a lot easier to mod them if necessary if I can take them out to do the work, so I'll wait on that step. But, I checked out the washer situation and all of them fit fine with the exception of the bolts that go through the rear of the rear brackets. So I ground down two washers to fit, as shown below. And with that I'm going to put this work on hold until I get the shop presentable. Then I can blast several parts and PC them black. I think the list includes the rear spring brackets, rear shackles, two 1/2" bolts, the two washers, the panhard brackets & fasteners, and the step brackets.
  4. It is actually E3TZ 9G332-A VALVE ASSY. (FUEL VAPOR LINE SHUT OFF) 84/89 F150/250.U150
  5. Wow! I have three that I want $80/each + shipping for. NOS. But $30 for one is a steal. So, for $270 + shipping someone can have a full set of four.
  6. 81/1989 E-F-U100/350 - - w/factory installed speed control
  7. Well, the above procedure works very well. But I'll add one more piece of info - measure to see how deep you need to drill and then wrap a piece of tape around the bit at that point. Now there's no guessing or stopping to see how far you need to go.Anyway, I used that procedure to drill out the last two rivets in the driver's side bracket, then drilled all the holes to 1/2" and reamed them to 17/32". (I don't have a 17/32" drill bit.)And with that the Sky bracket almost bolted on, and would have done had it not been for my step bracket. You can see in this shot where the two hit - the red mark in the upper right corner:A quick trip to the grinder solved that problem, and here's the bracket fully in place. It was a bolt-in save for the extremely minor issue with the step bracket that I designed and installed.Given that, the trial fitting is almost done. All I have left to do is to grind a couple of washers to fit but miss the welds. At that point the grinding and drilling will be done. So I'll clean things up, put away tools, etc. And then I think it is time to see about welding the frame boxes in, as the instructions recommend. Erik says they may not be held in tightly, so he recommends welding them to the frame. Then I'll clean the frame and paint it with POR15. After that I'll blast the brackets and any fasteners that have had their protective coating removed and powder coat them. And I might as well pull those steps and PC their brackets at the same time.
  8. Jochen - It is beautiful. I think. But, it is hard to tell as the pic is quite small. You can make it larger by adding the bold code to the code that produces the pic. Note that I left off the "" so the code shows rather than loading my pic. nabble_img src="AC_System_Junk.jpg" border="0" width="100%"/ You may have to play with the percentage if your pic isn't of sufficient # of bits to support 100% on a big screen. Anyway, glad to see that your friend's truck is making good progress, and that your truck is providing the motive power.
  9. I like the idea of a spare as well, Bill. And, as you point out, especially when going to the back of beyond, which I plan to do. So, if you don't need it at the moment, I'd like to at least retain it until I get the truck going, at which point we can discuss where it goes from there. That way if it doesn't start on mine I can try yours. As for the spare and location, I'm seriously considering placing it under the seat, as Ford did in '82. That'll save having to move the e-brake pedal, cut the firewall, etc. But it also means I have to lengthen 60 or so wires. So I'll have to wait to make that decision 'til I get there.
  10. That is what Dads say about their daughter! And husbands about wives. Ray? Where are you Ray?
  11. That would work but, as you know, I'm not a fan of the typical Holley. (I am a fan of Holly.) So, while I don't know what those carbs are, they certainly have the bowl gasket holding fuel in, and surely the fabric accelerator pump and power valve. So that wouldn't be my choice. Now the Holley/Weber carbs are of a completely different design, so don't have those ills. And although they sure have other ills, I'm still thinking they are the way to go.
  12. Yep! I have problems when I go into another room remembering why I went there. Sometimes back out of the room to figure it out. Or sit down for a mo to think about it. So by 969 I'm not sure I'll recognize me in the mirror!
  13. Hey, you talking about us older guys? Thanks, Bill. David - I was thinking more about Jim's limited connectivity to the internet, not my connection to my memory. But, as I said from the pulpit on Sunday, if this is what 72 is like, can you imagine what problems Methuselah had?
  14. Ok guys, thanks for the input. I hope to get more input before I start making changes, especially from those with slower connections. But the fact that it is loading more quickly is good news.
  15. Every once in a while I suggest to someone on FB to come over here, Vincent being the latest one. But it seems poor form to do much of that, even when the people seem to be getting little help. However, it is frustrating to see.
  16. Cool! Glad you found one to fix that problem.
  17. That's great, a father/son project. I'm jealous!
  18. Wow!! That's an epic post! And lots and lots of work. Well done work at that. I'm impressed. You've gotten far more work done on your truck in that time than I have.
  19. Thanks for the suggestion, Steve. I thought about something like that. But then I realized that there are two functions of the "site": the forum and the documentation on the rest of the site. So "New..." would have to be qualified as to forum or documentation. And "Proceed" takes you to the forum? Or the documentation? So we would be placing a barrier between the 50% of the site's traffic which is headed to the forum, only to capture the roughly 10/week that are newbies to the forum. I don't have a good feeling about that. And, remember that this whole thing was from a suggestion by a friend, part of which was an effort to free up real estate on the forum as well as to reduce the # of bits transfered. Well, I helped it some yesterday by reducing the bits w/in the picture by a factor of 4, from 1Mb to 256Kb. And today I helped the real estate issue by making the picture smaller and placing it in parallel with the prayer. So, back to my question about that - did it help?
  20. No, I don't build them to sell. That's a good way to lose money. I saw something recently that said "Know how to become a millionaire in music? Start out as a billionaire." I think that fits with trucks and cars as well.
  21. Except if you are silly enough to build it new from the ground up.
  22. Seven dams?!?! That is REALLY scary. Anyway, good deal. Some day you'll get the financial help to do it right.
  23. Yes, I would think that it would make it run rich because the pressure in the bowl probably goes up, so the differential should be higher and, therefore, the mix would be richer. However, the symptoms sound like it is lean. So, perhaps my analysis is wrong? This article from Holley has this bit of info: "Most carburetors will have a vent tube that acts as a “port” to the fuel bowl; this “port” provides the carburetor with pressure from it’s ambient surroundings and forces the fuel to move through the metering passages as required based on engine demand. Manipulation or changing the length of the fuel bowl port can have dramatic affects on the fuel curve of a carburetor and should only be done with the assistance of a professional engine dyno."
  24. That's a bummer. At that price it ought to be well checked out.
