Interesting!  One of Dad's cars when I was young had something like that.  He had a '35 Olds, '34 Ford, a Henry J, and then a '54 Plymouth.  Don't know which one, but one had an add-on heater.

These look like the heater boxes out of mid 50's to mid 60's Peterbilt and Autocar trucks also.
