You sure you aren't in Oklahoma?  We see drops like that frequently.  In fact, one of those is supposed to be here early next week.

This weather is something. Today we have steady 15-25mph winds.

So i am just working on smoothing out this spot:

Tomorrow should be no wind but a high of 48f. So i will run the engine to get the hood warm and keep the spray cans in the kitchen so they are warm. Maybe i can finish this tomorrow..

Apparently that storm will hit us tomorrow night.  But it isn't "the big one" that is coming later in the week.  Hope you get things wrapped up before that hits you.

When they tell you 2 cans of paint enough so you buy 3 and need 6!

I ordered 3 more and should be able to collect them tomorrow.

This “8oz” at a time is horribly expensive! Any suggestions on how to buy rattle cans economicaly?

I'm figuring about 6 cans per panel on mine.   That will be a plus/minus thing, but I know you have to put more paint than you think on it.   You can't skimp.   Especially on the hood.   First thing you see on a car when you walk up - that and the front fenders.

But with black, have you considered the Rustoleum roll on paint job?  Some examples and there are more.

This post was updated on .
Thanks Gary and Randy.

I think 6 cans will be the bare minimum for the hood I feel 7 or 8 may be in order. I have a bunch of other parts to touch up and the roof has lost most of its clear coat and will nee to be taken care of in the spring.

The color as per the Dupli color perfect match can is: BFM0294 Twilight Blue Met (7F,MK). Replaces DSFM294/T277

Buying it at 8Oz a time is horrible and the roof alone will need 6-8 cans... Plus clear..

edit: I have 3 cans coming into Oreilys Auto tomorrow and 7 on order via Amazon. I just need a break in weather towards the end of the week.

Dang it - they jack the price and shrink the can.   They used to be 11 oz cans.  Now we're down to 8 oz.

Yeah the hood will take more.  I need to do my top - it has the worst paint and pitting on the whole truck.   Needs high build primer, sanding, more primer, color, then some UV resistant clear.  I'm thinking Matte for mine.  I like the sheen of the color coats right out of the can but figure they won't be UV stable for too long.

I may try to do some in the warehouse at work over the winter if there are some warmish days.  No heat but out of the elements.

Re: Elyza Dual-little. 1985 F350 DRW

yes, the cans are tiny!!

I did some high build primer but looks ike my sanding job was not the best and I have a couple of small pits and scratches. Not sure I am going to do anything about them at this point...

The UV clear is so important here. My trucks are all kept outside and in the sun all summer..

If I ever really get to it, I am not going for a new finish.   Just get some paint on it.  I may sand back through to primer on the edges just for weathered effect, then clear it all with some matte.  I bought some duplicolor or something in a can when I did my door panels.   Used the leftovers in a spot or two on the body to see how it looked compared to the natural finish of the truck and it works.   I like my old truck looking weathered.   It's so much easier to maintain and not worry about.

But yes my truck lives outdoors as well, so I understand.

Re: Elyza Dual-little. 1985 F350 DRW

I got 2 cans of base down tonight.

I dropped the can on one spot.

The filler build up decided to bubble…

So I stopped painting. Let everything set up and hit with some 600grit in the trouble areas.

I thin got a hair dryer out and scorched the area that had bubbled to dry it out and applied another layer of glazing putty.

I took a step back and noticed some mild tiger stripes. I think i can get those out with a decent mist coat.

So i am hoping that trouble area drys out and i can get primer/sealer on it.

Everything  else looks ok, but winter is coming and I don’t have a covered area.

Unless i get a decent break in weather this is it until the spring.

I will get pics tomorrow, it was dark by the time i was done.

Some pics..

Tiger stripes maybe due to holding the can too close..

Stupid glazing putty

I will attack with another coat of putty tomorrow and hope i can prime/seal it and get the base coat on.

Not sure i will get clear coat on though…

Any advice welcomed!

The tiger stripes appear to be light and dark spots, meaning that the covering isn't even.  So yes, maybe too close.  But, not enough paint yet, either.

Re: Elyza Dual-little. 1985 F350 DRW

Not much to report, but here we go.

last Friday I finished the filler job.  I had 2 cans of paint left - all good so far.

The plan was to use that first can to fill in the last few thin spots then the second can would be the "mist coat" to even it out. Maybe get that clear coat on too??

After shaking the first can I popped the lid off. The nozzle snapped off and puked paint everywhere! Some of the solvent base splattered on to the hood "burning" through the paint.

I took a step back. Let it dry, sanded and primed again those areas. Unbelievable.

The second can went down fine and the coverage looks really good. But the cooler temps mean this is as far as I can go with it until the warm weather of spring.

On the plus side 6 cans of paint arrived yesterday, I just hope I don't loose them by the spring!

You may have worse luck than me.  Wait!  You do, because I have your carpet.  I want to paint some, but dreading the process, especially acquiring the paint, tape, paper, etc.

But I leaned a lesson right there from you.  Open that paint away from truck.

Re: Elyza Dual-little. 1985 F350 DRW

Ha! Yep!! Important lesson.

I would also say an ambient temp of 65-75F would be ideal.

When i come back to this in the spring i am going to get 8 more cans and finish all the exterior touch up - especially the roof!

I have learnt so much from this, i am excited to start prepping the Bronco for her summer paint job - not rattlecans…
